Unfortunately you are rigth, it was not a happy switch, spanish it's my first languaje and when I read that I was confused but I think it was the best for Donovan, he needs the internationally coaching if he wants to improve more and now that Donovan has the suport from the national sport federation he can afford that

I certainly do not hold it against Donovan for seeking a coaching change. He trained in México as long as he could, but if he wants to continue to improve and to compete, there are simply more and better facilities elsewhere. It does not change the fact that he is a proud Mexican and proud to represent his country, it is the nature of figure skating.

I wish him the best with his new coaches and look forward to his next skates!

I hope Donovan and Andrea come stronger this season I really like to seeing them both training together on instagram, they are really good friends and they are the best skaters from Mexico right now even tho Andrea have been strugling lately

In Hispanic culture that loyalty is a big thing but then Donovan needs good facilities and rinks that can be found outside of his home country.

Let remember that Gregorio trained Donovan for free to help him with financial problems and lack of support from the federation, both atchieved great things together even thou Gregorio it's a newbie coach in the sport, Gregorio was the one who saw talent on him when he was a little boy and did everything he could for his success, it's not something about culture it's about the connection between the two, they were more than just a skater and his coach, Gregorio was like a father to him, Donovan even said some seasons ago that he did not planned to leave Gregorio and that he was satisfied training with him. We don't know how it was the split but for what we know with that post he feel betrayed or dissapointed, I think he could have saved his comment though

Wow! This is indeed big news! My heart goes out to Coach Gregorio, but at a certain point, he has to love Donovan enough to let him go. He should be very proud that he took Donovan as far as he could and gave him a good starting base. I remember that having ice time was difficult for Donovan...Oops, I misread that at first that he is at the Cricket Club.

Good luck to Donovan and peace and healing to Gregorio. I'm sure Gregorio is devastated.

Excited for Donovan! Given that he's coming back from injury, I think it was a good time to relocate to somewhere with more resources. Recovering form after a long break is difficult for any athlete, he needs the extra support at this time.

I feel for Mr Gregorio too. Coaching changes can be delicate to navigate. I hope with time the hurt feelings can be resolved, and the success he had with Donovan inspires more young Mexican skaters to work with him.

So basically Donovan sold his work to the corrupt goverment it's what I undertand, and if you paid attention to the post you will see Donovan shared every institution who help him in the "switch" as a propaganda

well i didn't understand the telenovela much (maybe i should ask my mom who's a great fan of the genre) but Coach Gregorio could only take Donovan this far, he needed a change to improve further. i wish Donovan all the best

I would also like to point out an advantage that I think is just as important as coaching to Donovan's relocation.

My purely uneducated guess would be that the city of Toronto probably has twice as many ice rinks as the entire country of Mexico. That is not Donovan's fault, and it is not Mexico's fault, but there is no substitute for ice time on quality rinks.

And there is no shortage of quality rinks in Canada.

I am happy for Donovan, and... disappointed in Goyo.

I hope that with time Goyo can heal. I recall when Jason Brown left Kori Ade... well he reaction was not as dramatic, but it was clear it was not an amicable parting. There is some similarities there in terms of their relationship, how long they had worked together, first skater to the coach took to the Olympics, etc. So this is not something unheard of. Coaches are people too.

Goyo should be proud of Donovan, but also himself. He really did an amazing job of teaching (and don't forget choreographing) Donovan. I think he will have future successful skaters assuming he wants to continue coaching.

I want to explain as to the best of my knowledge what is going on. First of all codejalisco and codeguanajuato are independent from the conade. The conade (mexico national commission for physical culture and sport) is federal while the other two are state based. So the conade is in the spotlight right know because it is said that they have been stealing from the athletes. Conade say that they give money to the athletes while the athletes are saying that it is false. But that does not mean that Donovan sold his work like goyo said. Simply that because conade is in the spotlight right know they can't afford to withheld money anymore from athletes. I hope I explained myself, even Donovan said it was hard to understand conade.
