Maybe they could put Yuna and Mao both out on the ice.

That way, their fans could scream at each other over the internet, just like the good ol' days.

While that's happening, Adelina could swoop in on a zipline and snatch a gold medal from them both.

And my very unpopular opinion - I want to see Gracie on the platform!!! I expect Medvedeva will sweep! Not a Pogo fan.

I don't think this counts as very unpopular opinion (like some others) in the "Dream scenarios" Thread - of all places. I'm very much a Pogo Fan and I'm not in the slightest offended. It's DREAM time. ;)

:rolleye: So clearly you two think it is okay to crush every skater with so much as a modicum of talent in South Korea with the "next Yuna Kim" tag? You want every skater in South Korea to be completely overlooked as certain groups spend the whole time talking about Yuna and only Yuna?

Let the young Korean skaters shine with their own light - undimmed and uncrushed by the overbearing weight of expectation to be someone they can never be.

It is an absurd view.

And clearly (+ unconsciously) negative one... unsurprising comes from you - her biggest naysayer. Look what you wrote, the ONLY dream scenario you have at coming Olympics is to wish someone who retired NOT TO STEP ON THE ICE?!! Even in a gala (occurs AFTER the competition, how is that adding to pressure?)

How is Plushy coming back to figure skating means crushing the dreams to all Russian youngsters, or how about Tessa and Scott to P/W etc. How's the possibility Midori doing a gala crushing Mao, Wakababy doing their 3A in a competition? It is totally absurd! Oh yes, Yuzu, Patrick, Javi, Max, Mao, Carolina K after 'retirement', don't you dare to step on the ice again even on host duty for your home Olympic games. Don't you dare to share your beautiful skating with the world as it will somehow diminish those after you, look up to you? Instead of inspire them to do even better? It makes absolutely no sense except shows - once again you have double standards ONLY concerns Yuna Kim.

And plszzz... it is not like you are a big fan of any Korean youngsters all of a sudden and are actually watching out for their best wellbeing.. lol!!

I can't help but think any time Kim is mentioned must be a total nightmare for you... in which case, good luck mate. 2018 Olympics is in South Korea, guess how many times commentators are going to name her from world all over. Not even mention the skaters themselves, and for sure - avoid these forums if I were you.

I would love Gold to make the team some how and have a great come back season! She can now skate with abandonment like she does at galas (at times, she compete like a tight fist with all these Frank/Lori/USFSA cover girl pressures). Anna Pogo, Elena Rad make the team too.

I would be surprised if she didn't light the cauldron at the opening ceremonies, as Midori Ito did in Nagano. I don't know much about South Korean sports, but I would imagine that she is at least the most successful amateur athlete to come from that nation.

they have wicked speed skaters... both short track and long track including champions.. but I am sure that yuna is more known than them... ladies figure skating at winter games is like men's 100m dash at summer games

Actually, I think that speed skating, especially short track, is hugely popular in Korea. And I'm pretty sure that their Olympic champions are regarded as heroes.

Isn't it sort of common for past Olympic champions from the home country to be part of the Opening/Closing ceremonies? I'd be shocked if Yuna Kim wasn't part of one those, or both.

According to our good friends at Wikipedia, South Korea has won 21 gold medals in short track, 4 in long-oval, and 1 in figure skating.

yup... well that one medal in figure skating is special...

yes the athletes of short track are divinities.. but I'd like to hear what a South Korean would say about this : how was Yuna's gold perceived??? because I am pretty sure she is just as much as a divinity as the short track skaters....

go Mo Tae Bum (long track specialist) ... (and sorry for the spelling ... I try not to do this one phonetically but yeah...)

No, I agree. I was simply pointing out that I imagine all their Olympic champions, including Yuna, will be featured in the ceremonies.

That said, short track must be amazingly popular in South Korea. They lead all nations in gold medals and total medals in the sport.

being a very nationalistic person ONLY in sports LOL and especially at Olympics... i cannot help it to have a special thought for the quebec team of amazing short track skaters... it's such a crazy sport... with sometimes bad bad bad luck...

My dream scenario: NO SPLAT FEST!

Okay onto REAL dream scenario: I want Yuzuru to perform 2 clean programs and be happy with himself (if that result in another Olympic Gold I'd be thrilled).

I want Nathan's program to be more than just jumps after jumps. I've seen it in person and it's JUST...SO...EMPTY... The US commentators keep trying to convince the audience that Nathan has the artistic side to his skating. I want less telling and more showing. So please, develop two good programs that can stand alone without all the quads AND THEN put in those awesome jumps.

I would like Javi to be on the podium and finally get an Olympic medal.

I hope Yuzuru would stay on after the Olympic season (at least as long as it takes to give us that 4Axel).

I really liked Weaver and Poje so I hope they go to the Olympics and win a medal.

I hope Laurine Lacavallier gets sent to represent France and that she ends up in the top 24.

Absolutely dream scenario, but completely out of the realm of possibility, fair judging.

I'll second the no splat fest wish indeed. I like it when everyone brings their A-game.

My dream scenarios:
Ladies: Evgenia, Radionova and Ashley (I know, it's so crazy😂 But maybe Radionova could medal in thr team event if she goes to Olympics?)
Men: Fernandez (I really want Javi to win gold, or at least medal, it would be so nice), Shoma and Hanyu

I don't know what will happen in pairs and dance, but I hope the Shibutanis win gold

Sorry, but it's a fact that everyone will never agree on what's fair judging. PCS and GOE are based on opinion and preference. Even the TEC score cannot possibly be 100% objective ... there's disagreement about what does or doesn't get called UR, or edge. What "fair judging" means depends on what we value in figure skating. Judges are not exempt, but they can try to be impartial.

I saw both Nathan's competition programs last year in person, and NEITHER...ONE...WAS...EMPTY. I'm not the only one who saw plenty of artistic conviction and musicality in them. But (paraphrasing another poster) ... going full-strength on the jumps, since he had them, was a pretty good strategy for his first year as senior. There's a discussion in the thread 2017-2018 Programs by Discipline thread, pp. 73-74, about others' views on this subject, and clips of his new SP, if you're interested.

Dreams continued, because one can dream, right?

Women: Osmond4gold, Gabby grabs silver and a bronze to either Karen, Ashley, or Gracie, for a NA sweep

Men: Patrick for a podium finish

Pairs: D&R have a redemption year and prove the naysayers wrong

Dance: V&M and Weapos both medal

Team: Canada, Russia, USA, in that order

Someone posted a Youtube link to Nathan's USNats long program, and it had all the jumps and spins removed.

Anyone who claims that program was "empty" is mindlessly parroting some "internet sage" and not examining the evidence.

The statement does not have basis in reality.
