Earining multiple spots

I was just wondering how Italy received 2 Ladies entries. Carolina Kostner was 3rd, but Roberta Rodeghiero didn't even qualify for the short program (would have been 31st overall).

Do preliminary participants not count toward the earning of multiple spots?

Anyone care to shed some light on this?

Hi there, It is because Carolina, finished 3rd overall so guaranteed 2 spots for World's. If she finished outside the top 10 Italy would have only had one spot after totally her score with Rodeghiero.

Kostner and Marchei would be the entries for nice.

Not qualifying for the SP means that Rodeghiero got 18 points. Kostner got three, so 21 points is enough for two slots.
