Everyone has to do the closed test skate, but there's an open one a week or two later and they skipped that one last year. I fully expect them to be there.

Looks like it's gonna be a spanish themed (tango, flamenco, sevillanas) inspired modern piece? Loving it already. I am sure knowing their team they will also have a super SD. Wheeee....I feel like a little kid in a candy store or a big kid in the Godiva...I could go on !!!!

Thanks a lot for that link to Najarro's Instagram post, uhh. I thought they shouldn't do a flamenco themed (or similar) program for the second season in a row when they had such a great one for their SD, but it can turn out great, and then I won't care much for what I thought and said before .

This is exactly what I am thinking. Although I liked their Carmen, I'd love for them to try various styles, and Spanish programs in general are more or less forgettable to me, including Weaver/Poje's Maria. Maybe it's the music all of which always sounds so similar to me, I don't know. The judges don't seem to be smitten by Spanish dances either, except V/M's Carmen. I am hoping for a 'wow' program from these two though.

Yeah, I'm not WILD about the thought of a purely flamenco FD, but then again a lot of the stuff he did with Lambiel was flamenco based, & even so, Poeta & Carne Cruda turned out so differently, but both were amazing. Plus he's done a lot of other things with flamenco in his time, like the fashion thing Tanka linked, & the Spanish National Ballet have a huge amount of jazz inspired flamenco that he's done, so I'm hopeful it won't be too similar to what he did for Carmen. The great thing is that they've had at least two days working with him to create something special - last time it was just 1 day in Latvia and then another super quick visit in August to check they were doing OK.

I guess that's because you get a lot of very "meh" spanish programs - most people seem to think that a stern face, hand movements and foot stamping is enough! When someone does a good, authentic and challenging Spanish program, they really get rewarded - A/P in 2002 and V/M's OD in 2010 come to mind.

Actually, V/M Carmen, doesn't quite strike me as a masterpiece. They messed around with it too much I guess because of criticisms. I only had an issue with the first 10 seconds or so but the rest of it was really good. That first or was it second performance of it was maybe the best. But with all of the permutations they lost some of the fluidity it needed. Or just something was missing?

I agree although I really believe it could have been a masterpiece. The only reason it wasn't, I feel was their lack of training showed. There were sections that were messy. Although I thought the music cuts were quite good.

I know people are kind of ehhh with Spanish/flamenco for Ruslena but I feel so positive. Najarro managed to capture them in the infancy of their partnership. I am going to assume he is doing a free dance for them which after Carmen, I believe will be fantastic. He captures their fire and passion and he gave them a short dance they believe in (and I think that is why that was the program that has less mistakes) they felt that program and it made them want to perform. Looking at last seasons free dance I think it's evident of why could happen when your not given a good vehicle.

Off season needs to be overrrr!!! Do you guys want to speculate what GP's they will get?

Spot on!! I'm excited about the choice. Let's consider all the options after a waltz SD; Spicy, Hip-hop, Ragtime, Shibs circa 2011, C/L 2012. A lot of teams are going to veer away from Spanish themes because these two are superlative at it. Plus Najarro is no idiot, this will not be a rehashing of Carmen. Fire yes, but also more polish and sophistication. Well wishers can forget about wasting her time on any negative spin doctoring.
