Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Oh no, marks will materialize out of thin air. Russia will get back their 3 spots at all costs. The only thing that will prevent that are botched twizzles or stepwork sequences.

Twizzles have to be hit for that to happen love. Lol..

With all the drama in Russian ID, I`m glad Elena and Ruslan are far, far away preparing their new season in Detroit. Although, I`m now worried about S/K and S/B getting that third spot back.

Anyway, is this pic also from Detroit? https://vk.com/blackswanei?z=photo-69138676_406087420/album-69138676_00/rev

Not sure if that pic is from Detroit, but it seems like it could be. I think it's from Ruslan's mom's Facebook page.

This picture from their fan club Instagram page looks like an apartment complex possibly where they are currently living in Michigan. https://www.instagram.com/p/BCty6LSvLD_/

I hope all is going well with their training and time in Michigan. They look happy in the pictures they have posted. I wish I had sent them them a welcome package like flowers or gift cards to Target (best store ever).

Elena posted that picture on her facebook page - seems to be her social media of choice these days! - with a lovely message: Thank you to my beloved partner for a wonderful day & the most magical flowers on 8th March: you made my day.

ETA: http://vk.com/wall-69564002_25706 And some pictures from Ruslan's mother - they seem to be settling in really well!

He bought her flowers? Aww. He is a keeper

Nice picture of Lena and Ruslan with Shpilband juniors on her Facebook page.

Side note: some muscles on that Ponomarenko kid. Isn't the boy only 15?

Ruslan can solve any problems :agree: There are also pictures on Lena's twitter of her watching JW with other skaters in the group, seems like they've settled in perfectly.

Seems like a fun bunch.

I'm assuming the reason Chock/Bates and Tobias/Tkatchenko are never in any of these team training pics (I think maybe Madison in one) is because they are getting ready for Worlds and thus training separately?

Also, I am not an uber feminist, but I was never a fan of Lena's attitude towards her partners, as real men who are the rock, can fix things, are the leaders on the ice like in life, etc...

Women are just as capable of fixing a flat tire thank you very much.

Maybe that is not what she meant, but it comes off that way and I think it does women a disservice and especially her.

She is talented, she is strong, she is capable. It's good to give Ruslan credit when he deserves it, but honestly, I don't give my husband props for changing a tire or being "manly". I don't think he gives me props for being "womanly" whatever that may mean.

She does look VERY at home in that group of skaters watching JW. Is it just me though or is Ruslan not there?

It doesn't really concern me one way or another how she talks about/views men... though I also don't think I quite share the views she seems to on social media, I'm more interested in her skating ;)

Sometimes its not really necessary to criticize every aspect of a person's life especially if you're not personally acquainted with them. Why not just be happy that Ruslan was there to help her with the tire? Many women can open a door for themselves can't they? But don't we appreciate it when a gentleman holds it open for us? Thankfully, chivalry is not dead. Maybe that's all she meant.

It's a forum. And it is my opinion. I was putting it in context with other things I have read she said in interviews, I think it's allowed. I am not bashing her in any way. It is a general comment that can be applied to a broader societal attitude.

I appreciate a man opening a door for me, sure, but I don't congratulate him on it. I don't expect people at work to think I'm more womanly because I brought home-made cookies.

Just an opinion.

But some people will judge you on the quality of your cookies anyway. I only started bringing cake to work when one guy left the company. Because after about a week someone brought cookies and this guy asked me "Ahh, you are not baking cakes or cookies, or are you?" In that tone. Like I'm not the type woman who could bake. I smiled at him an swore to myself that this guy would never eat something coming from my kitchen. Undeserving macho.

Anyway, I think that Elena probably likes to rely more on men, because her mother and her had to fight for themselves. And I don't think that she wants her hands to get dirty with grease.

Just a thought, maybe it has something to do with the fact that there were, and stil are, people who criticize Ruslan for not being 'manly' and 'strong' enough to match Elena as a partner... But to each their own, I don't have a problem with Elena's gratitude, and I don't have a problem with someone having a problem with it either. :D

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. & even in skating - Nikita, Morozov & Zhulin are not shining examples of great guys. When she talks about Ruslan being a real man, it's often in the context of him being strong in supporting her, helping her out, someone that she can rely on, not just in things that are traditionally gendered as masculine, like changing a tyre. I usually take it in the context of "wow, a guy who isn't a idiot", and if she's changed her definition of a "real man" to be that, I am 100% behind her.

Nice interview with Igor - he's 100% right in his assessment of P/C's simplified programs. And I like what he says about looking at changing the image of I/Z, looking at everything new. It sounds like they already have big plans. And it's so great to see another coach saying all those wonderful things about Lena.

Oh I couldn't be more proud if I were their parents. Too sweet.

EDIT 1: But I must say what a complete twit of an interviewer. Why are they so invested in thinking the worst of Lena? Loved the way Igor just shut it down. I respect you all and myself too much to really let it fly.

EDIT 2: I love the part when he says "It's called talent. Can talent hinder?". ..rofl.....:handw::laugh2::points:

An interview with Igor, he also talks about Ruslena.

http://m.rsport.ru/interview/20160318/905477120.html

Very nice interview. I like Igor. Very realistic and level headed. Doesn't beat around the bush either about what the Russian Fed expects.

He can appreciate the raw talent, but knows it needs to be molded. I kind of like that he wants to change their image, basically start from scratch on his own. Maybe the image they had the last couple of years was fine and just needs to be tweaked, or maybe he will go for a radical change, it will be nice to experiment and who knows maybe they will find something that works better for them.

It will be exciting to watch.
