Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Since Cristopher Dean is now in Novi, working with C/B on their program for SOI, may I hope that he will also somehow work with Ruslena? :)
It would be great, especially for Ruslan to work with him!

It would be cool if they would one day work with Dean, but I think for next season Shpilband will use a safe strategy for them in order to reestablish them in the eyes of the judges. So, they will probably skate to something that shows off their strengths without taking too much risks. If they stay beyond 2018, I hope that artistically they will continue the path they took with Frida and push a little bit the boundaries.

Ruslan is in perfect hands with Igor and Fabian. On the contrary it would be good if C/B are elsewhere, then I/Z would have more time with their coaches.

I agree, and with C/B doing Stars on Ice they probably will be around training less in general for at least a month or so which is good if anything for Ruslena- the more individual attention they can possibly get the better (though of course I don't begrudge Igor's other teams their fair share of attention when they are around).

I think I/Z will have more time with Shpilband anyway, because C/B will soon start the SOI tour.

I think so too. I'm hoping though, that he'll choose something likeable/lively/memorable for them as they'd be selling it like few other teams could, whereas I'd be much less happy to see them skate to dreamy/bland music which is the strength of other teams. Basically what has been said about Weaver/Poje, for me Ruslena are a type of skaters that are awesome with powerful, passionate music, even if it's a warhorse. I hope I'm making some sense... ;)

You do

I also think that they should focus on showing off what makes them special and not necessarily doing what is en vogue right now. There aren`t many teams who can skate with the passion, fire and abandon they showed during their Carmen SD. What bothers me right now in ice dance is that everyone tries to emulate what P/C did with their Mozart program, the problem hereby is that regardless how great W/P`s or the Shibs`FDs were, the French can do this style better. I actually could imagine I/Z doing something like Je suis malade or Maria de Buenos Aires.

Regarding the SD I hope they go for a Swing. According to the technical requirements they have to do their non-touching step sequence on a different rhythm than the Blues. I think Swing would showcase their speed in the step sequence much better than the Hip Hop.

Marta25 talking perfect sense as usual! :clapper: I've been thinking along the exact same lines for the FD, and I was talking to some friends about how Quand Tu Dors would be perfect. There's lots of drama & storytelling, and no one has done anything like it for a while.

I'm sure they could manage hip hop, but swing will be easier to choreographers to work with & for the judges to get their head around, and this has to be a kind of rebuilding season, so no need to do anything too wild.

Thank you ;)

6 months until we have I/Z back :scowl:

Oh well, in the meantime I will keep watching their video dancing to latin music

I agree I hope they go for swing. While they are actually one of the few teams I think really could pull hip hop off, I think swing would better emphasize their strengths as was already said above- their speed, long matching lines, flow across the ice, and unison.

Agreed. Also, for me there aren't any other teams whom I would actually believe IZ's level of passion and expressivity.

OT, lovely new avatar, Marta25. ;)

That was my favorite moment of their SD
TBH, I`m still rewatching their COR performance of Carmen from time to time.

My gut is telling me they'll do swing for the SD. Their skills and that style are a perfect match. As for the FD I think they'll do something sophisticated and even a bit quirky/unusual, something we've not seen before at least for them. Excited to see them on the ice. I hope we really don't have to wait till September to get even a glimpse at them.

I hope your gut is right, and I hope Shpilband chooses the right kind of quirky for them. :p

I think that they'd want to to hip-hop, but that Shpilband will make them do swing instead. ;) It's the safer choice after all. But I like Elena doing hip-hop.

Maybe swing for SD & Hip Hop for exhibition? I'd love them to do some, too! Well, I'll be happy if we will be able to see them some more next seaosn. This season it was depressing at the end without them :(

I hope that they'll finally have an exhibition! Hip-hip ex would be great.

I think Elena would kill it for sure, and I think Ruslan would be surprisingly good at it too, but honestly probably not at her level, whereas I think they'd definitely be equally good at swing. I'm not sure the team needs to give people yet another reason to say Ruslan isn't as good as her by having them do a dance where she probably would actually be somewhat better than him.

Honestly, I think Ruslan would actually be better at hip hop than Elena. I've just noticed that his movements tend to be a lot crisper and more placed while still having energy, and while she dances with more verve she can verge on sloppiness at times. Like in the dance break in their SD, I thought he did a much better job right from the very beginning while she could be sloppy.
