Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I think the Hip Hop option working or not will depend a lot on the choreography and how they manage to do the transition from Blues to Hip Hop. I think I/Z could be great at Hip Hop, but considering how this season went, it`s maybe better to do a Swing. The important thing will be that the SD feels like a Blues, because in the end that`s the main rhythm for next year.

Personally, I would stay away from the hip hop option, for two reasons. First, hip hop is really, really difficult to do authentically on the ice especially when during an actual step sequence. Secondly, I read what the ISU published about what constitutes hip hop multiple times and I'm still not sure what they're looking for.

Don't even understand why the bothered to put in the option of hip hop. Probably the only team that can really pull it off is V/M. Anyways swing would suit them quite fine :)

It`s probably a try to modernize Ice Dance. There were a few posters mentioning that the ISU was disappointed that all the teams took an traditional approach to the Waltz. I can also only think about 2-3 teams that could actually pull off Hip Hop, but I do hope Shpilband will give IZ a Swing. Let the others this time take a risk.

Weird. Those were the dances they rewarded. Many going as far to change there dances. LOL.

And here I thought they just included it for the laughs it's sure to provide when some of the teams try to do it... the ISU needs comedy in their lives too

Yes, Happy Birthday, Elena, and the best of luck in the upcoming season!

I'm sure I'm just being silly, but the Federation instagram and twitter usually posts birthday wishes for skaters & even some coaches, but so far they have completely ignored Lena. Everything since CoR feels like they've just completely dumped I/Z and don't care what happens with them and it makes absolutely no sense at all. :(

It's the I/Z thread. Feel free to post that second bit elsewhere.

Anyway, Happy Birthday Elena, and may you have a successful year with Ruslan!
