Elena Radionova

And then her Russian folk exhibition from Sochi - I'm a total sucker for those programs.
Me too! Her Russian Folk EX is so special, her expressions are the best. Although I love all her performances too, her one program is different from another performance. I love her Fifth Element and J.Lo SP and all her FP :)

Thank you for answering! :party2::o:

I think that the Rolling in the deep EX deserves an honourable mention here! Modern music really suits her, if anyone else performed to J.Lo during his/hers competitive program, I would cover my ears, now I'm rather fond of that SP (hated it when I saw for the first time!). Can't wait to see her rock that program in Stockhom :cheer:

YES, the Russian folk exhibition in Sochi is one of my all-time favorites! :cheer2: That is the performance that made me a fan. Prior to that, when I saw Lena on the GP circuit, I just thought she was a cute jumping bean, and I didn't pay too much attention to her because she was too young for the Olympics. But it was that Sochi performance that made me realize that Lena is an amazing entertainer--she played the home crowd perfectly!

I really enjoy Lena's SP this year, trashy mess that it is! It's so fun. I also really liked her FS last year--I just love seeing her dance. And the 2014 Nationals performance is my favorite, because Lena does some bonus dancing while she's taking her bows.

I missed the whole discussion about the portraits that Sergey Bermeniev took, but I hope we get to see them all at some point. I also didn't really think that Lena's serious photo was sexy...but it was definitely unusual to see her looking stern! (Ok, yes, like a stern puppy, or like a child who is tired and grumpy and needs a nap!) But really, my first thought when I saw that photo was, wow! There's that "steel" that the British commentators were talking about--you can see the intensity that fuels Lena's competitive fire. She's a killer! She always goes out and KILLS her free skate! :agree:

Right now, Lena might have too much of a baby face to tackle a really *dramatic*/dark program, but surely someday we'll get to see intense Lena!

Here are some gifs I found of Lena. These show the distance she gets on her jumps:

And this one shows her and Anna Pogorilaya practicing. From the angle, it seems like Lena's legs are just as long as Anna's!

Also, lots of cute photos here of Lena with Sima Sakhanovich--I'm guessing it's for the FS starting order draw?

Sorry for the double post, but before I forgot I wanted to share this--one of the other times Lena got invited to skate in a gala when she wasn't competing--2011 Worlds!

More folk music in front of the home crowd (I think)!

Thank you! I did not know about this.

I'm also a fan of that Sochi Gala performance! This might sound weird, but when I see that I think of Tolstoy's "War and Peace". There's this scene where Natasha does a Russian folk dance after a wolf hunting trip in "uncle's cabin/lodge" (haven't read it in english). The narrator (I like to think Tolstoy himself) is fascinated at how well she performs and how truly she understands the "soul of Russia". This is one of my favorite bits of that great novel.

By the way, Countess Natasha Rostova, one of the main characters, is an emotional, petite teenage girl usually full of positive energy. "Constantly smiling and laughing" as Andrei observes the first time he sees her. She's also very musical, a great dancer and she is from Moscow.

Now you probably understand why it's difficult for me to seperate the two performances:)

Hmm, well they work on my computer, but they do take a long time to load...

On the plus side, Sergey Bermeniev posted the pic that Lena is using as her Instagram profile:

Hooray! :cheer: That is definitely the sun that we know and love.

ETA Here's another cute photo with Sima:

Really? Then maybe if I am more patient with my cp signal it would work~~ i hope xD

But that photo just made my day yehey ^^)v

I am a bit confused with Elena's eye color. Are they brown?

Speaking of the Sochi gala, here's a nice little Vine clip:

I also thought that Lena reminds me of Countess Natasha at the ball! But then at the end of the book, Natasha lets herself go and becomes fat and plain (but happy), and I don't want that to happen to Lena!

Actually, now I am thinking that Lena is like a fairytale princess! In the interview with her parents, her mom mentioned that other nicknames for "Elena" are "Elena the Fair" and "Elena the Wise," but I didn't know who they were, so I looked them up.

Here's a story about Elena the Fair:
http://stpetersburg-guide.com/folk/swolf.shtml

And one about Elena the Wise:

I can certainly picture Lena as either of these pretty princesses! ;)

Wow! Amazing investigative work!! Great job, detective:biggrin:

I bet Svetlana and Igor read those tales to her when she was younger. To the little wise and fair Elena. Yes, I can see that! :)

Looks like Lena's gone dark on Instagram ahead of the competition next week, as usual. It's great that she's so focused, but it's a bit sad for us fans...

To bide the time, here are some photos of little Lena that I found!

Their flexibility is amazing! Sasha, Lena, Vika, and Vera, I think.

(Lena's expression--of course!--is priceless!)

Speaking of flexibility--Lena's Biellman made it to top photos of 2014!

I just wanted to bring attention back to this interview, which I thought was sooo interesting!! :agree: Inna Goncharenko sounds like such a smart coach, and I hope that Lena is able to stay with her. I do think the fact that they have been together so long contributes to Lena's stability/consistency.

I thought it was really interesting how she said she thought Lena has "cosmic abilities."

If you haven't read this, you should also check out this interview with Ilya Averbukh. His comparison of Lena and Julia Lipnitskaya is really interesting, and I am once again surprised that they seem to get along so well!

I've noticed the whole internet has gone dark about Lena for the last week or so. There's nothing new. I consider it to be the calm that comes before the storm. Next thing we see or hear of her, it'll be a practise pic/video/report from Stockholm.:cheer2:

Agreed, in a stable, familiar environment it must be easier to focus on the important things. And communication is more nuanced and effective if you can work "extraverbally". She's lucky to have such solid relationship with Inna (and vice versa).

This interview is surely one to keep for all Lena fans and it has been vastly underappreciated in here. This is the key quote for me:

"For example in so many years of working with Lena Radionova we understand each other. Sometimes I have an idea in my head and Lena comes over and voices it. Yes, I have the last word in the conversations, but Lena knows and can do so many things herself. She makes offers. It's interesting working with her. She is very talented. I think she is one of those indigo kids with some cosmic abilities."

Indeed. Lena "Indigo kid with cosmic abilities" Radionova:biggrin:

NEW PERFORMANCE VIDEO!! YAY!! :cheer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEITyh3eRW0

Lena performed yesterday in some show/celebration at CSKA for what would have been Stanislav Zhuk's 80th birthday. (He was a famous coach.)

Very cool! This reminds me--I watched "The Bodyguard" recently, and now Lena's EX makes so much more sense! Now I get that the first costume is just like Whitney Houston's here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFcnGLFGbL8
Though I still don't get the part at the end where she lifts up her helmet...

Does anyone know who choreographed Lena's EX programs this year?

I watched her most recent performance. She seem to grow for a couple of inches since the Russian nationals... :rolleye:
I feel a little worried seeing her stepping out on the second jump. Not normal for Lena. Hope the puberty does not affect her for Europeans/Worlds.

It's a gala. She's probably relaxed and not as focused as she is in competition. I mean, she also seemed to struggle a bit on the first spin, and you can sure she won't do that in competition.

I'm so excited about the showdown at Europeans!

But for her it usually does not matter, she used to be very focused and maximum committed on all her performances.
