Liza finished 2nd out of 3 in the Israel National Championships SP, with a score of 53.36.
Liza finished 1st out of 1 in the Cup Of Israel Final SP, with a score of 53.36.

Unfortunately, I thought this was being held next week, and only found out last night that it was actually this week. However, I watched Liza on the archived livestream before writing this post, and wrote the sort of comment that I would have written for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Lovely Double Axel to start with.

Hand down on the Triple Lutz. But combination spin that followed was good.

Not sure about the start of the Flying Camel Spin.

Combination jump good.

So was the Step Sequence. Although I thought she was going to kick the boards at one point!

Loved the Layback Spin at the end.

Quite a few gifts thrown onto the ice for her.

Like Katya earlier, Liza was the last to skate in her segment. But, unlike with Katya, we did get to see Liza getting her scores. Mind you, because they were showing Mark Goronitsky starting his Warm-Up, we only re-joined Liza as the scores were announced. So, we didn't get to see her her initial response.

That said, when we did join her, you couldn't tell how she felt about how she did anyway, because she had a neutral expression on her face the whole time we saw her sitting there.

She goes into 2nd position, 3.93 points behind the leader.

Liza finished 1st out of 1 in the Cup Of Israel Final FS, with a score of 104.88. This meant that she remained in 1st position overall, with a score of 158.24.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread about the Warm-Up:

Yipes! The first 3 times that Liza was within camera shot, two of them were nearly collisions! She was going far too fast. And as a result, she and the other skaters barely had time to react when their trajectories were intersecting.

Thankfully, she slowed down shortly afterwards for the rest of the Warm-Up.

We lost the pictures for a while just before the 1 minute call. So I don't know what she was doing then. But, I don't think she did any elements within camera shot.

So, having not seen her yesterday, I don't know what form she is in. Apart from being fast, that is!

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced before doing her programme:

Well, we already know that both of my "kids" have Cup Of Israel titles in their pockets already. Now to find out if Liza can put herself in a good position to add the National title to that. (I realise that a lot of things have to align for her to achieve that).

:cheer: ALL THE BEST LIZA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Beautiful combination jump to start with.

Just about had enough room to do the sequence of jumps.

Next jump and combination spin good. And the next jump too.

I thought Liza was going to join me during the step sequence she was so close to the camera! (Well, it was probably just the zoom).

I didn't spot any possible issues after that. It was beautiful.

Although, Liza looked frustrated when she finished. So, it was maybe not as good as I thought.

She was smiling for the photos. But as soon as they were finished, her head was in her hands.

The coach was telling her something, and Liza was pulling some strange faces at it.

When the scores were announced, she stood up and punched the air in celebration!

This was only the third time she broke the 100 point mark in the FS.

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

She goes into a massive lead in both FS and overall.

Now she has wait to see what Maria does to find out if it is enough to win both titles on offer today. (She already has the Cup Of Israel title).

Liza finished the Free Skate 4.08 points behind 1st position, Maria SENIUK (HOL), and 38.76 points ahead of 3rd position, Julia FENNEL (BSH).

Overall, Liza finished 8.01 points behind 1st position, Seniuk, and 54.62 points ahead of 3rd position, Fennel.

Although Maria had 2 falls in her FS, those were her only issues. Liza may not have had any falls, but she did have issues with five elements. When her programme's total Base Value was lower than Maria's, Liza really needed to go clean if she was to have a chance of winning the FS, never mind the title.

Nevertheless, as I said at the time, this was only the third time Liza broke the 100 point mark in the FS. So, she was certainly trying.

Liza finished 16th out of 22 in the SP, with a score of 44.29.

I was not able to watch LIVE at the time due to concentrating on the Junior GP in Ankara, but some kind soul filmed the coverage from their TV, and posted it on YouTube. So, here is the sort of comment that I would have written for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Liza wearing a very distinctive dress where, if looking at it from the front, the left hand side is completely pink, and the right hand side is completely blue. It's in the same vein as the black and white dress that Alexandra Trusova wore for her 2019 EX to Sia's "Unstoppable".

OK. She's starting in a rather dodgy looking position on her hands and knees...

First part of combination jump very good, second part the footwork looked messy.

Until now it has sounded like she is skating to interference. But, now we are getting some actual music.

Picture froze in middle of next jump, so don't know how it went.

Lovely Flying Camel Spin.

Change Foot Combination Spin lovely, and included a very nice innovative jump when she was changing foot.

Popped the next jump, the Lutz.

Step Sequence looked so good!

Lovely Layback Spin, taking her back into her starting position.

She doesn't look too happy coming off the ice. Probably annoyed at popping the Lutz.

I really liked that programme. I am looking forward to seeing it again where the sound quality is better.

:cheer: WELL DONE LIZA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

The discussion in the competition thread was, inevitably, mostly about the dress. Somebody asked if it was a nominee for the WTF Awards, to which the organiser, my good friend from Sicily @elektra blue, replied:

no, it's just an unfortunate mix of two different dresses, she liked them both and couldn't make up her mind on neither of them, so she chose to wear them both

There were only 2 comments about the actual skate. The first came during the programme from my Norwegian friend, @norwegianfairytale:

Not going well :(

And the second came from the aforementioned @elektra blue:

that spiderman landing is on trend this year

I don't think I would ever have made that connection, but she's right! It's a Spiderman position!

Liza is currently 0.59 points behind 15th position, Sarah Marie PESCH (DEU), and 0.54 points ahead of 17th position, Josefin BROVALL (SWE). The three of them are at the top of a group where 7 skaters are covered by 5.20 points, stretching down to Miranda LUNDGREN (SWE) in 21st position, 4.61 points behind Liza.

Liza is in a position where if she has a good Free Skate, there is the potential to move up two positions, as WI Seoyeong (KOR) in 14th position is only 2.70 ahead of her. But that is the highest she can hope for, as there is a big gap ahead to 13th position. The problem is that Liza has five skaters right behind her, and she could easily slip down positions if things don't go her way.

So, let's hope that they do go Liza's way, and she can climb a position or two.

Liza finished 6th out of 17 in the SP, with a score of 47.31.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

I watched the Warm-Up but, honestly, it was a waste of time doing so. It was a static camera pointed towards the gate, and all you saw were skaters going from one side to the other. I don't think we managed to see even one element from any skater.

However, I was able to spot that Liza is wearing a different dress to what she wore at the Nebelhorn. This one is part pale blue and part dark blue, with a diagonal skin-coloured part in between.

RIght, I am trying to get something watched before quarter to, so I will pop back to it, and then return when Liza comes on.

CaroLiza_fan

I didn't say it at the time, but I was wondering if she had gone back to her old SP, because the dress looked very familiar. When I checked videos from previous seasons, it was very similar to the dress she wore for her "Danse Macabre" SP, but was not the same. Come to think of it, the colours were also similar to the dress she wore for her FS last season. She does seem to like dresses that are those sort of colours. And I don't blame her. They suit her.

Anyway, here is what I wrote about her programme:

Wow! Lovely Triple Flip to start with!

And the next jump, thr Double Axel was lovely too!

Flying Camel Spin good. But changing the foot on the Combination Spin looked awkward.

Fall on Triple Lutz meant she couldn't attach a combination onto the end of it.

Step Sequence not bad.

And a lovely spin to finish off.

Yes, that was good. Glad I popped in to watch!

She goes into 2nd position.

:cheer: WELL DONE LIZA!!! :cheer:

Liza is currently 1.40 points behind 5th position, Laura SZCZĘSNA (POL), and 2.62 points ahead of 7th position, Carlotta Maria GARDINI (ITA). She is bottom skater of a group where 5 skaters are covered by 3.34 points, stretching up to Karolina BIAŁAS (POL) in 2nd position.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but Liza has a good chance of claiming a medal.

Liza finished 5th out of 17 in the FS, with a score of 94.20. This meant that she climbed to 4th position overall, with a score of 141.51.

Unfortunately, I made a mess of things on Saturday. The delay to the start of the Senior Ladies SP at the Trophée Métropole Nice Côte D'Azur totally threw me, and in the confusion I forgot about keeping an eye on the Diamond Spin stream for Liza. The annoying thing is that Liza was skating during the gap in between the World Superbike and World Supersport races, so I would actually have been able to watch her LIVE, if only I had remembered.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread when I realised my mistake:

Ach! With watching the World Superbikes and trying to keep track of what was going on in Nice after the delays, I forgot to pop in here to watch Liza! :bang: :bang: :bang:

And this is the stream that you can't re-wind. And which goes private as soon as it finishes. :bang: :bang: :bang:

I'm an idiot!!!

CaroLiza_fan

Some videos from the Senior Ladies FS at the Diamond Spin were uploaded to YouTube last night, so I am hoping that Liza's will join them later today.

Liza finished the Free Skate 0.22 points behind 4th position, Gian-Quen ISAACS (ZAF), and 5.38 points ahead of 6th position, Carlotta Maria GARDINI (ITA). Liza was the bottom skater in a group of 3 skaters covered by 0.34 points, stretching up to Karolina BIAŁAS (POL) in 3rd position.

Overall, Liza finished 3.68 points behind 3rd position, Białas, and 5.07 points ahead of 4th position, Isaacs.

This is a difficult summary to write. Looking at the protocols, Liza did not have a good skate at all. She had two falls; four of her jumps (including the two she fell on) were landed on the quarter; and she under-rotated the Double Axel in the sequence. But because the Base Value of her programme was miles higher than anybody else's, she still managed to finish the FS in 5th position, and move up in the overall standings.

Having a difficult programme is a double edged sword. It means it is more likely that things will go wrong, as happened here. But at the same time, it means the sheer size of the Base Value can cushion the impact of things going wrong, as also happened here.

It's a risky tactic to take. It worked here, because everybody else had programmes with much lower Base Values. But when she is in a competition where other skaters have programmes with similar or higher Base Values, Liza is going to tumble down the order if she skates like she did on Saturday in Katowice Janów.

Nevertheless, she deserves credit for doing so well in her Short Programme, and managing to improve her position overall.

Bellu Memorial Senior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Liza finished 15th out of 20 in the SP, with a score of 40.46.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Bellu Memorial, as I was concentrating on 4 Continents.

Looking at the Protocols, she had three major issues. She was supposed to start with a Tripe Lutz with a combination on the end, but she landed on the first part on the quarter and fell. As a result it got -2.95 in GOE, and -5 from all six Judges. The second element was another major issue as she singled her Axel, so it became an invalid element. The third major issue came when her fourth element, the Double Flip, was also invalidated.

The other elements, though, actually went really well. All the numbers were positive. The GOE's ranged from +0.58 for the Change Foot Combination Spin, to +0.77 for the Step Sequence. And in terms of Judges marks, there were five +1's; thirteen +2's; and two +3's.

Liza is currently 0.02 points behind 14th position, Oona OUNASVUORI (FIN), and 1.63 points ahead of 16th position, Mariia KRYZHOVA (SRB). All three of them are part of a group where 9 skaters are covered by 8.49 points, stretching from Kristina ŠKULETA-GROMOVA (EST) in 10th position, 5.15 points ahead of Liza, down to Julia FENNELL (ISR) in 18th position, 3.34 points behind Liza.

Liza was so unfortunate to have those three major issues. Because, going by how the rest of the programme went, she is in good form and should be a lot higher.

Being in the middle of a group this big, anything can happen. Liza could move up, potentially as high as 10th position. Or she could drop down, potentially into the bottom 3. So, she needs to have a good Free Skate to make sure that she moves up.

And let's hope she does!

Liza finished 14th out of 20 in the FS, with a score of 79.66. This meant that she climbed to 14th position overall, with a score of 120.12.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Bellu Memorial, as I was concentrating on 4 Continents.

Looking at the Protocols, things did not go very well. She started off with a Triple Lutz-Double Axel done in sequence. The Lutz was landed on the quarter and, presumably, she fell on the Axel. It got the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.95; and -5 from all five Judges. This was followed by a Triple Flip, which was downgraded. It got the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.90; and -5 from all five Judges.

The fourth element, the Triple Loop, was also downgraded, and she fell on it. It got the fourth biggest GOE hit, at -0.85; and -5 from all five Judges. The seventh element, the Triple Lutz, was another downgraded jump. It got the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.05; and -5 from all five Judges.

The other elements went better. But, the GOE's and Judges marks were still not terribly high.

Liza finished the Free Skate 0.61 points behind 13th position, Magdalena ZAWADZKA (POL), and 2.32 points ahead of 15th position, Kristina GRIGOROVA (BUL).

Overall, Liza finished 3.56 points behind 13th position, Zawadzka, and 7.09 points ahead of 4th position, Mariia KRYZHOVA (SRB).

This season just does not seem to be going as well as the past two seasons for either of the Gervits sisters. They are both due to compete in the 4th round of the Cup Of Israel in two weeks time in Holon. So, hopefully things will go better then.

But, whatever happens, I really hope that next season will see a return to good form for both Liza and Katya.

Ondrej Nepela Memorial Trophy Senior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Liza finished 11th out of 23 in the SP, with a score of 54.96.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Ondrej Nepela Memorial Trophy, as I was concentrating on the Junior Grand Prix in Baku and the Nebelhorn Trophy.

Looking at the Protocols, Liza had issues on two elements. The first was the opening Triple Lutz-Triple Toe, where the second part was downgraded. It got the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.12. But because it had by miles the highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it four -4's; and three -3's.

The other element with issues was the fourth element, the Triple Flip, which was landed on the wrong edge. It got the second biggest GOR hit of the programme, at -1.10. It also got -4 from Judge 6; -3 from three Judges; and -2 from three Judges.

The other elements went very well, with GOE ranging from +0.40 for the second element, the Double Axel; to +0.86 for the penultimate element, the Step Sequence. But it was the Layback Spin at the end that got the highest Judges mark, with an elusive +5 from Judge 3. Apart from a 0 from Judge 7 for the aforementioned Double Axel, all the other Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE were in the +1 to +4 range.

Liza is currently 0.84 points behind 10th position, Ava Marie ZIEGLER (USA), and 1.85 points ahead of 12th position, Nataly LANGERBAUR (EST). All three of them are part of a group where 15 skaters are covered by 12.24 points, stretching from Starr ANDREWS (USA) in 4th position, 5.71 points ahead of Liza, down to Aleksandra GOLOVKINA (LTU) in 18th position, 6.53 points behind Liza.

In a group this big, anything can happen. Liza could move up considerably, or she could move down considerably. So, she needs to have a good Free Skate to make sure that it is up that she goes.

Ondrej Nepela Memorial Trophy Senior Ladies: Results

No video uploaded yet 😞

Liza finished 16th out of 22 in the FS, with a score of 86.98. This meant that she dopped to 14th position overall, with a score of 141.94.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Ondrej Nepela Memorial Trophy, as I was concentrating on the MotoGP in Japan and the World Superbikes in Spain.

Looking at the Protocols, Liza had issues on four elements, including two falls.

The first fall came on the first element, the Triple Lutz. It got the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.95; as well as -5 from all seven Judges.

The next issue was on the third element, the Triple Flip-Double Axel done in sequence. The Flip didn't have a clear edge. It had the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.95, but because it had by far the highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. It got -3 from Judge 6; -2 from four Judges; and -1 from two Judges.

The second fall came on the seventh element, the Triple Salchow. It got the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.15; as well as -5 from all seven Judges.

The Protocols don't make clear what went wrong with the final element, the Flying Change Foot Combination Spin. But, it mustn't have been that major, because it got the smallest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.23. And because it had the joint lowest Base Value, this made it the lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -2 from two Judges; -1 from four Judges; and 0 from Judge 2.

The ninth element, the Triple Flip was completely neutral, in terms of both GOE and Judges marks. The fourth element, the Double Axel, nearly was too, except that Judge 7 gave it -1.

Everything else got positive GOE, ranging from +0.05 for the penultimate element, the Step Sequence; to +0.49 for the second element, the Triple Loop. Apart from a +3 from Judge 3 for the aforementioned Triple Loop, all the Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE were 0 or +1.

Liza finished the Free Skate 2.37 points behind 15th position, Julia van DIJK (NED), and 2.16 points ahead of 17th position, Clemence MAYINDU (FRA).

Overall, Liza finished 4.72 points behind of 12th position, Aleksandra GOLOVKINA (LTU), and 1.45 points ahead of 14th position, van Dijk. Liza was at the head of a group of 4 skaters covered by 3.62 points, stretching down to Barbora VRÁNKOVÁ (CZE) in 17th position.

Although this is not the way Liza would have wanted things to go, it is early in the season. In fact, I am pretty sure this is her first competition of the season (the Cup Of Israel hasn't started yet). And, unlike in previous seasons when she only changed one of her programmes at a time, she has two new programmes this season.

As the season goes on and Liza gets more experience with her new programmes, I'm sure she will improve.

:cheer: WELL DONE LIZA!!! :cheer:
