Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

The SPs have always been Liza's nemesis - it clearly is a mental thing. Remember when Liza's name couldn't come up without the conversation automatically going to her "weight issues"? No one ever explained how they could bother her more in the short than the long program - if your stamina is an issue, and the short program is too much for you, surely you'd be spent by the middle of the long! So, yeah, when things start going wrong, the first thing to be hit is the short program. She's said herself that she feels the pressure more of that, as it has to be perfect - there is more leeway in the long.

That's why I understand the SP strategy this year - give her tech content that she is comfortable with, and build her confidence that way. The only way to really build confidence is going out there and showing herself, time after time, that yes, she can do it. And she can't afford to dig herself in too deep with messy short programs - both obviously in the short term, but also in the long run, the wrecking of her confidence.

It seems that this year she seems to know more what she needs to do, and how to work with herself mentally. As she says, the more pressure she'd put on herself, the worse things got.

I hope she will do well at Golden Spin and continue to build on what she's already accomplished with regard to improvements this season. Hopefully she can then go into Nationals with some measure of rebuilt confidence - and perhaps even hunger to perform well.

Well, I'm glad the weight comments have (I believe?) all but disappeared. Liza looks very slim to me (not that she ever was "too big"), especially now that she's ditched the mumus.

I'd hoped those SP demons were totally exorcised after 2015 Worlds, where she performed 3A (and 4 triples) for the very first time in a major competition at the freaking World Championships. I think that was one of the most ballsy skates I've ever witnessed--other people would only do it if they absolutely needed it to win (she didn't, as she'd won GPF + Euros without it) or if they'd tried it out on a GP first or something. She had a brief preparation period and a lot to lose if it didn't come off. But I guess, even after something insane like that, you don't immediately "exorcise" your demons; you just have to get back to work and continue fighting...

Nonetheless, that night proved that she can bring it when it counts, and now it's just about building momentum and confidence until she gradually gets into the right rhythm again.

I think the standard she had set herself was a big part of the problem last year. She said in an interview that she kept trying to match that level, but the more pressure she put on herself, the worse things got.

Happy Birthday Liza! ! ! :cheer::hb::hap10:

You have entered your 20's, young lady. Good luck!

Also! On Dec. 17'th Russia celebrates "День РВСН (RVSN)". It is the day of Russia's Strategic Missile Forces. (I served my year of military duty there)

You've all probably seen those huge ICBM trucks:

It's is one of the main weapons of the RVSN. What am I getting at? I guess the nuke is supposed to symbolize a cleanly landed 3A at Nationals! :biggrin:
