Ellie Kam & Danny O'Shea

Love it!

Love it!

I like how joyful and triumphant the music sounds! They look so happy in this video. I’ll be interested to hear how the other music cuts fit in.

Looks like they’ve withdrawn from Nebelhorn Trophy too… I’m hoping it’s the same injury from July and not something new. I really hope they’ll be completely healthy by Skate Canada. I bought tickets specifically to see them😭. At least the FS music announcement means they are still planning to compete at some point this season, but they’ve been so quiet the past few months it’s worrying…

Polina Edmunds just released a hour long podcast episode featuring Danny and Ellie! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-iron-butterfly/id1525495252?i=1000728286227
There is so much interesting stuff here. You guys should definitely check it out. A few of my favorite highlights were:

1- Danny telling the story of how he broke his foot and the thought process behind why he decided to still compete. He didn’t want a repeat of 2017 Worlds where he and Tara had to sit out due to injury and the US ended up with only one pair spot for the Olympics. He said as long as he knew he could keep Ellie safe, there was no way he was leaving his Olympic dream in the hands of another team again.

2- Ellie introducing their new programs for the season and the stories behind them. The short is “Hallelujah” by KD Lang. Ellie suggested it because she was inspired by watching Mariah Bell’s FP to it at 2020 US Nationals and she wants to move people with her performance like Mariah did then. The free is to a medley of Cinematic Pop songs (Sweet Dreams, Eleanor Rigby, and Everybody Wants to Rule the World ). Amber Glenn actually came up with the idea last season. Danny and Ellie had to fight for the program a bit as Drew and Marie France weren’t completely on board at first, but now everyone is really happy with how it turned out.

3- Danny came up with the idea for their costumes this season. A first for him as he usually leaves that up to Ellie and/or their designers. He was inspired by Kintsugi, a type of Japanese pottery that involves repairing broken pieces with gold or silver inlay making the finished piece even better and more beautiful than it was before. He thought that represented him and Ellie well. How the struggles and disappointments (and literal broken bones in his case😅) have led to them becoming stronger as a team.

They also mentioned that they want to be a bit more strategic with their competitions this season as they felt like they burned themselves out a bit last year. That might explain why they skipped John Nicks and Nebelhorn if they weren’t feeling 100% yet. I’m so excited to see the full programs and costume reveal at Skate Canada!

Danny and Ellie will make their season debut this week at the Trialeti Trophy in Tbilisi Georgia! They skate Friday and Saturday around 6pm local time. You can watch the live stream here: https://ice-stars.tv/trialetitrophy
(Unfortunately the stream isn’t free, but at least it exists😅.)
I really hope they can have two skates they are happy with and start the season off strong.

Looks like it was kind of a rough outing for team Kam’O. From the clips I saw on X, their programs are beautiful (and I love the new SP costumes😍), but the jumps/throws were not landing. It seems like they haven’t had a ton of time where both of them were completely healthy this offseason, so I’m not shocked things are still shaky. Here’s to hoping a few more weeks of on ice practice and runthroughs will solidify things🤞.

Thanks for the feedback on their programs. I couldn’t find any information (other than the scores and placement)
Can’t wait to see the SP snd costumes!

Her dress is so pretty. I agree they look good after quite a bit off the ice. Hallelujah is always beautiful to use.

Oh yay, there’s a full video! I was debating buying the livestream/replay, but after seeing the scores I decided to just hope someone would post them eventually😅.

I am just learning about all the issues and recovery they both went through this past off-season. In addition to Danny’s foot surgery, he also underwent hernia surgery, and Ellie was off-ice due to a concussion. Given all the recovery time & how little they’ve been able to train .. they’re doing amazing!

I woke up at 5am today to watch the pairs SP at Finlandia. Danny and Ellie did really well! The throw loop wasn’t quite behaving, but she didn’t fall and they got their first 70+ SP of the season. The program looked a lot more comfortable than at Skate Canada. You can tell they’ve been able to work hard on solidifying things now that they’re finally healthy.

1st-4th are all separated by a few tenths of a point. The downside is that it’s basically a tie going into the FS so Danny and Ellie are really going to need a great skate to maintain their 🥈 position. The positive is that the judges seem to like them pcs wise, so if they do skate (relatively) clean, the score should be good. (I’m still a bit annoyed that they got some of their lowest ever pcs on their perfect freeskate at Skate Canada😒.)

I’m probably more nervous than I should be about tomorrow’s FS. It’s still early in the season but everything just feels more important during the Olympic year😅. Finishing as the top US team and making GPF would go a long way in securing their Olympic spot… It’s very doable for them, but ice is slippery and throws are hard and anything could happen🫣. Luckily, I think Danny and Ellie have a healthier mental approach than me and seem to just be taking things one day at a time instead of worrying about the future😂.

It helps that they get excellent GOE on their lifts … gives them a solid base score, even with errors elsewhere.
