Emilea Zingas & Vadym Kolesnik

I never thought I would ever see the day when the lead story on the sports pages of a Cypriot newspaper would be about figure skating!

Phileleftheros, and it's English edition In-Cyprus (the former Cyprus Weekly), ran a story about Emilea yesterday.

Here is the English version of the article:

https://in-cyprus.philenews.com/sports/cypriot-american-emilea-zingas-fifth-place-milano-olympics/

The Greek version includes a fan cam video of their FS in Assago that is not included in the English version. So here is the link to the Greek version of the article:

https://www.philenews.com/athlitika...chimerinous-olimpiakous-i-23chroni-pafitissa/

Bit confused about her grandparents running an Italian restaurant, though. But, I suppose Italian food is better known in America, and hence more likely to sell than Greek food.

On a similar note, in their article about the Opening Ceremony last Saturday, K-News (the Cypriot edition of the Greek newspaper Kathimerini) talked extensively about Emilea and Vadym, and even used a photo of them as the photo accompanying the article!

https://knews.kathimerini.com.cy/en/news/milano-cortina-2026-winter-games-open-in-spectacular-style

Unfortunately, I can't find a Greek version for those who would have liked to have a look at it.

Good to see Emilea's achievements getting acknowledged in her ancestral homeland even though she is no longer representing Cyprus.

Senior World Championships Short Dance: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaWi1j37bjA

Emilea and Vadym finished 4th out of 31in the Short Dance, with a score of 84.21.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Here is what I wrote when they were being introduced:

And here is what I wrote about their programme:

The first few posts from other members were a bit jumbled up.

The first came from our resident video archive list compiler, @labgoat, who wished them the best before they skated, and then edited in her verdict afterwards:

After their starting section, @Mista Ekko commented:

@Arriba627 then wished them the best:

@Mista Ekko then came back and observed:

When they finished, there were a few comments about the GOE's and TES. The first was from @SnowWhite, who said:

To which @4everchan replied:

Because he had posted:

The next was from not-the-band @cocteautwin, who commented:

To which @4everchan replied:

To which @Mista Ekko replied:

I have a feeling that @yelyoh was a bit taken aback with the score:

Whereas @4everchan was expecting it:

My Norwegian friend, @norwegianfairytale, was happy:

@labgoat came back to show approval of the scores:

And to round off things, @Arriba627 commented about Igor's gnashers:

Looking at the Protocols, there were no issues at all. The GOE ranged from +1.99 for the penultimate element, the Roller Lift, to +5.79 for the final element, the Choreographic Rhythm Sequence. These two elements were actually the lowest scoring elements of the programme, because they had the lowest Base Values. The first three elements had much higher Base Values that were very similar to each other, and very similar GOE's. All the Judges marks were in the +2 to +5 range.

Emilea and Vadym are currently 0.88 points behind 3rd position, Lilah FEAR / Lewis GIBSON (GBR), and 1.14 points ahead of 5th position, Evgeniia LOPAREVA / Geoffrey BRISSAUD (FRA). The three partnerships are the bottom three partnerships in a group of 4 partnerships covered by 3.38 points, which is headed by Piper GILLES / Paul POIRIER (CAN) in 2nd position, 2.24 points ahead of Emilea and Vadym.

Well, all things being equal, the destination of the 🥇 Gold Medal is already decided. But, any of the four partnerships could claim the remaining medals. So Emilea and Vadym will need to have a good Free Dance not just to try to move up onto as high a step as they can on the podium, but to try to prevent Zhenya and Geoff from overtaking them.

So, let's hope they have a good Free Dance and can move up.

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Senior Free Dance is due to start at 18:30:00 CET (12:30:00 EST / 17:30:00 GMT / 19:30:00 EET). So 10 hours from now.

Emilea and Vadym will be the 17th partnership to start. So, second partnership to go in Group 4.

The Group 4 Warm-Up is due to start at 21:02:45 CET (15:02:45 EST / 20:02:45 GMT / 22:02:45 EET). So 11h 32m from now.

Emilea and Vadym are due to start at 21:17:40 CET (15:17:40 EST / 20:17:40 GMT / 22:17:40 EET). So 12h 47m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

They were wonderful. I have loved this free dance, and they looked just terrific to me today- while I can't comment on the nuances of levels and so forth, what I do know is that I don't look away when they are on the ice. They engage me from start to finish. Congratulations on being World Bronze Medalists!!!

Here's hoping they stay with Igor & Benoit and not be enticed to go to Montreal. Vadim came to the US because he always wanted to work with Igor & his partnering with Emilia has paid off. Finally we have some new kids on the block medaling..Wondering how Caroline & Anthony feel as they were the apparent heirs to supplant Chock & Bates as US number one.
