Eun-Soo Lim

Not one! She had ! at flip (not clear edge), lost level at step sequence and another spin. And programme overall was transitionless compared to her rivals
I personally don't think 2 transition cluttered programs that felt the same even if one is skate to "I dreamed a dream" the other is to "Adios Nonino" 2 vastly different music, deserve high components mark.
well, I'm no judge.
Also, manipulating edges calls or levels, is nothing new for judges/tech specialist to manipulate scores. But that is not saying here, Squirtle's lost spin levels are not deserved.

Lower levels doesn't warrant lower PCS. Pass me what you're drinking, judges. I wanna see how you saw her performance. [emoji58]

If you can give a skater some decent PCS after a couple of falls from last week, how do you treat a skater who simply lost levels and actually kept the essence of the performance?

Yes, the argument fall does not matter, since other stuff are there to justify high PCS as NEEDED and conveniently low-ball PCS for mistakes(such as missing spin levels) that is actually invisible to whole performance level as NEEDED.

IS figure skating judging.

nothing new, have seen way worse.

Actually losing levels has an impact on PCS as it affects performance. Eunsoo doesn't have as many transitions as her rivals (her jumping passes are practically transitionless and it's a choreo's fault because it wasn't such a big issue last year) and she may have wonderful edges but she is noticeably slower then Russians or Japanese skaters (especially during StSq) which affects SS component. She still has a chance to medal. Who knows... maybe Panenkova will have meltdown. If there is one thing figure skating taught me it's "don't call winners before FS.

I think sunnystars was talking about spin and step sequence levels.

lol, spin levels affecting PCS? never heard of this thing. must be a rule that apply only to small fed skaters ..

ISU judges are quite conservative. Some of them might not like young kids doing sexy programs.

that's true for young looking kids. But Eunsoo has the maturity to express the music accordingly. In fact out of the top 3 she was the only one who actually interpreted her music ..

Regarding music choice.
Here is some reception/opinion from her Chinese fans.
Chinese fans are not particularly excited or in love with her music choice this year. Some used the word too loud/noisy:biggrin:

Eunsoo among many promising young girl skaters is surprisingly (maybe not that surprising) quite adored by Chinese figure skating fans, due to her familiar asian beauty look and beautiful body type (loooong legs especially), and her resemblance in terms of physique (and jumps to certain extend) to Yuna Queen.

So here is some common opinions regarding her programs and possible music choice for next season
her Chinese fans wish she can try some lyrical music for a change, something like Yuna's lark ascending. to really use those lively long lines.
It is great that eunsoo is challenge something different from normal generic lyrical, pretty music for young girl skaters.
but it is kinda repetitive for her own range of style. Also, lyrical music will force her to polish her skating skills (which is an area she needs to improve) and to learn certain type of lyrical moves that will help her to improve her posture and extension (more than one people has mentioned, her posture needs somewhat improvement, but I personally did not see it, cos she does has a very beautiful and squared shoulder and just look down habitually a bit).

I personally think 2 contrasting programs in terms of style every season would be ideal, plus a third lovely EX. :p

Also in terms of techqiue
her -3t in her combo jump although has great height( even higher than first jump, which is a beauty) needs to be improved, she has a bit bended toe picking there, maybe should watch Yuna Queen's -3T and learn from there.

Thanks yyyskate for telling us more about her Chinese fans and their hopes for her.

I wish she would have gone to the JGPF, but she'll be back even stronger for the Junior World's :)

Prep up for Skate Korea and Nationals then, bb Squirtle! I think this time for KSU to really make a move and really encourage her parents to send her to US or Canada for a major overseas training. The girl has everything but she needs the finesse and the attention to details to bring her to the next level.

Chinese fans also are "begging" for BB Squirtle to train overseas. specifically, many hope she can be sent to Team BO. It is now late night in China, most of them have not got the devastated news about FS yet... :sad21:

I think the FS is under performed. those mistakes are caused by a split second of self-doubt or agitation perhaps. Also, she is visibly discouraged after mistakes...but the show must go on.

mental strength when you has high expectations whether it is from your own dream or from people around, your friends, your country...
An important lesson to learn.

Poor girl, that was just not her day. Feel sorry for her, she was crying in KnC. I think she needs to work hard on her technique, and probably with a different coach. Her height also seems to be a huge problem.

Poor girl's confidence got triggered by the unfair scores yesterday. When you face hostility from the judging panel, you can't feel comfortable on ice at all. :scowl:
Still, one has to admit there are certain shortcomings in her skating and agree that changing training surrounding to more professional and experienced may help there.

Anyway, baby queen will bounce back at Worlds for sure. :2thumbs:

Why everything had to happen in my country :palmf: I agree, she will learn from that but she can't stay like that, her best performances were at the beginning of season and she was good then but she should keep improving but she isn't sobbb. Just like Yuna, she's a raw talent, an unpolished diamond, with Yuna being better jumper at her age and Eunsoo a better performer, both are such a talents but Yuna really got to that legacy that she has because of top level coaching team and environment in Toronto, that's where she become a one of greats. I know it's easy for us to say that she needs to go to train overseas while it's not for her and her family but honestly, if she wants a big career she just needs to. Korea is and will be for a while one step too slow and figure skating is keep moving forward. Still, full season ahead, I hope she will keep working hard as we can just dream about her to do that big move.

KSU officials and government officials need to do something to improve the training conditions. It’s so absurd they don’t let an individual to have their own ice rink in korea. Yuna really need to have her own. She really desired to have her own training ice rink, but greedy officials stop her having one. They just want to make some money from it. In korea, a ice rink automatically belongs to local government. KSU officials mostly consist of people from speed skating. They rarely do something for figure skating. I don’t know whether Eun soo want go abroad or not but we need to solve the problems by the roots.

I don't understand why Junior Grand Prix is mostly held in europe. :dev2:

Poor girl, she look so disappointed at the K&C, she know she can do it, yet it slip away from her. Her jumps were just not there yesterday, and her disappointment impacted the program, it's easy to see. :(

The Russian are so ... spot on, we are going to see a mini Russian national at the JGP final. :slink: (sorry, a bit off topic)

When is Skate Korea this year? Looks like it was in mid-October last year, and I'd love to go this year if I can! But I can't seem to find any English-language info about it online...

Definitely PM Hailey Shin about attending! Not sure if she's attending the competition though.
Also, I believe Skate Korea (aka Ranking Competition) is slated for Dec. 1-3 according to Finnstep's post in the State of SK thread
