Evan/Johnny Article

This is the same article by the same auther that was on The New York Time on the same day that has caused a little stire on Johnny's Angles website.

well I have to say that i did not enjoy this article. The writer seemed slanted against Johnny and brought up things I felt were irrelevant and even inapportitae (almost constantly calling Johnny gay). Why do jouranlists have to make trouble even when there is none.

It really is possible to like both Johnnie and Evan but it is difficult. I used to like both of them eqally but Johnnie's mouth changed all of that. I still think his skating is beautiful but what he says is ugly. It isn't Evan's fault if the media, judges or even the USFS prefers Evan's masculine presentation over Johnnie's more effeminate style. It could be that the USFS prefers to promote someone who isn't purposely rude or trying to shock people. They tried for a long time to promote Johnnie but Johnnie likes to make incendiary comments and then ice the cake by topping off his fluffy, sparkly attire with a feather boa. It's easy to play the gender card but Johnnie has generated lots of reasons for his federation not to like him. Johnnie's comments about Evan (as well as Johnnie's immature approach "I don't worry about points") have not endeared him to many people and he has only himself to blame. Having said that, I still do like Johnnie's skating and I just don't watch any interviews of him anymore.

What this "rivalry" has done, IMHO, is make Johnnie look silly and childish while making Evan look like some kind of macho maniac. I wish Johnnie wouldn't feed the beast with his deriding comments about Evan. I think Evan is to be commended for holding his tongue where Johnnie is concerned but he has to be more aware that the media is taking any blatantly heterosexual comments or behavior he exibits and wildly inflating them. I wish both skaters would just go out there and skate their point of view.

I would expect no less from the media. They stir up this type of stuff because it sells. The days of moral, ethical reporting has been over for a long, long time. Facts are reported no longer.....it's ALL editorial and most of it trash.

Dizzy

you know I can't think of a time when true ethical journalism in this country existed

even when we were first starting out as a nation journalists spun the news to suggest what they wanted...

that being said, this was a really horribly biased article... and painted both in the extremes which is just stupid... they're not charactures! they're real people!

And you know what, I think Johnny is in the process of learning how to keep is mouth shut. His latest journal entry was quite polite and nice.

I think they both have... I recognized a lot of the quotes from this article as being fairly old.

it's not the first time I've read about it, IIRC in Skating magazine he's actually met with TV producers about the idea...

I don't think it's something he himself needs to participate in any time soon, though, not with his history of injury

Does anyone else finds this article kinda funny? I don't think it's taking itself too seriously. That picture of Evan is hilarious! I thought it was photoshopped before I saw the caption.

I also chuckled at the paragraph talking about the controversy over Johnny being what kind of gay person he is, and quoting Mark Lund's remark as though he's preferring Evan's "more masculine" kind of gay-ness than Johnny's "prima donna" kind. Oops!

I was also amused by the multiple mentions of Evan's dating a hot girl, and how his fans appreciate him for blah, blah, AND for dating his hot girlfriend. Just a tad shallow, isn't it? And tongue-in-the-cheek, maybe?

Anyway, I enjoyed that. I hope nobody takes it too seriously, though...

What an irritating article! He makes Johnny sound like a joke. The writer is trying to make them sound like Blades of Glory.

Exactly SPun SIlver!

Also, someone back on the other page emntioned whether it was possible to like both Evan and JOhnny. I think it is. I like Johnny's skating but EVan's atitude.........

Yes. I have to say the way he handled what happened at nationals was in good taste and very professional. I think Galina must be taking him in hand. Keep up the good work G, you russian women sure are tough!

I've noticed in today's coverage he was very focused on HIS skating and only his skating... found it very refreshing and mature from him...

I like the new Johnny :)
