Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

More from Hersh's talk with Orser about this change in his latest blog, here:
The Medvedeva saga: Orser on her ex-coach's reaction, plus money, choreography. . .& more

So Orser's plan got clearer, he's going to make Evgenia next super-rock-star like Yuna,Yuzu and Javi to throw GOE sky high, no need in upping TES, rule changes are in her favor, and not in favor of her rivals. Considering her main asset - consistency, the task might be even easier for Orser.

I wonder how common it is for top skaters to have some sort of eating regimen. I remember Yuna said she really love to eat bread when she was hungry but she could have only a little or it. I don't think her coach made that rule for her, but it is probably recommended by her team. I remember this from after she left Brian and was training in Korea for Sochi.

I wonder if the RusFed is just going to let it happen or will their pride get the better of them.

Why not? Evgenia is Russian and the Russia's men don't have the most difficult TES so far. I mentioned it before that what Mishin said, is a key point. Orser came to make it even more valid.

They tried for her to backload everything at the start of the last season (Nepela Trophy) and resulted in injury. It was as difficult as Alina's program but Zhenya just couldn't keep up so they went back to the same formula. If Orser makes major changes in the layouts of her new programs, she will need some time to cope up with it. It doesn't help that she's no longer as lightweight as she used to.
I simply think Eteri didnt thought Zagitova would be that succesfull with that layout and wont beat Medvedeva in PCS. Thats why they only tried backloading more (not even fully backloading though its 1-6 with 2A as opening jump iirc) in her 3rd season where Zagitova debuted as senior and rivalling Medvedeva. Because Medvedva won almost everything in her first two senior season maybe Eteri think she will still be unbeatable.

The notion that Eteri or the Russian Fed's focused on internal politicking above all else is ludicrous.

Their #1 focus is to win the Oly gold by any means necessary. (What if injuries happen, what if someone was unable to perform her best for whatever reason in 4 mins...) They'll do anything to MAXIMIZE their chance of winning. Which girl wins is SECONDARY.

I don’t see why RusFed should not support their most successful and reliable skater as long as she continues to win medals for them 🤷🏻*♀️

The RusFed didn't support Zhenya? That's news to me.

My comment is directed toward sentiments that Alina should be held back, or her programs should not be maximized to win, you don't need the best to beat the rest...

Sorry I wasn’t responding directly to you :) I was referring to those who think that Zhenya might be held back by rusfed bc she trains abroad

Zhenya should be fine in Russia as long as she maintains her citizenship and doesn't start trashing the fed like she did on twitter.

The problem with Zhenya now is.....She is going to train in a country (Canada) with which Russia has extremely bad relations right now.

In addition, her new (no-Russian) coach has ... "non-traditional" personal orientations which do not fit with Russian public opinion right now.

Taking into account all this ... it is not unreasonable to think that the Russians will do their best (within certain limits) so that Zhenya does not triumph.

Even though I am slightly scared that Rusfed will meddle in a negative way since I read all these comments about it, I believe that her reputation and their respect for her is big enough to actually help her as much as they can because they really don't care about who brings the medals as long as they do. I believe they support her, otherwise we wouldn't be reading what Orser said of Evgenia working it out with Rusfed for the expenses after they make a training plan. Maybe they won't use Evgenia as much for their promotional materials, maybe they'll use Alina, but I think they'll support her nonetheless.

It would be against their own interests to do it. If she comes back stronger for Nationals, it's very good for them, no matter where she trains. That's why I'm not worried about the Nationals this year (except if her training and programs are really bad, but we can't know that now).

However, this might change for the years to come, but I still think that if she's better, then they will let her win even if she trains aboard.

Well, I think we have to take into account several things:

RusFed does not really exist: it is not an independent organization. In Russia, only certain people have power.

And those people in general do not like Zhenya's way of being, because she is neither the typical Russian girl nor the prototype they want to promote. She speaks foreign language, she likes foreign cultures, she shows tolerance whit....”non-traditional” ideas.

Until now they have endured it because ... she won championships.

But now she is not indisputably the number 1, so probably some of those people with power have started attacking her. Probably the mess about that it was going to change her citizenship have been malicious rumors scattered by those people with the only aim to damage her public image.

We should wait more performances in that sense, and of course in the sports field.

Many Russian athletes train in USA (the country which dealt 100 times more harm than Canada) and nobody cares.
Lol, there are gay artists in Russia who got medals, rewards, flowers personally from Putin. So nobody cares about Orser unless he starts some public anti-Russian propaganda.

facepalm

It's not that Orser is better than Eteri, but I think she wants to explore. And the pressure on her rink is immense: to watch the talented juniors day by day and to think that 1 day you'll be left behind is hard.

Erm, likely most people in artistic fields do? And several others, too.
