Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

BORser didn't have any female skaters prior to Med that were medal threats (I don't count Daleman as a threat). He was barely active in ladies skating and most of attention was on men's. The bigger coaching threat would've been Raf (with Lim and Honda) or one of the Japanese coaches.

The thing is Eteri wants to have a male OGM contender at Sambo-70. I have no doubt Orser also wants female OGM contender in his team. Now he has Evgena.

In regards to hell on earth, Eteri literally says in the recent documentary that Zhenya must travel through the circles of hell to be champion.

Why it should be impossible that she simply meant that Medvedeva have to work very hard like the other champions, and not that she have to let Eteri physically beat her like some posters assumed here?

Orser on Zhenya’s jumping. This is just to say that while she can DEFINITELY improve and be more effortless when it comes to toe jumps, it’s clearly not as terrible as some people here think.

I can't think of a single jump she does that another dozen skaters can't do better. What a blatant flattery, it's embarrassing.

Or maybe he just didn't sleep on "How to deal with media?" lessons unlike Eteri. Evgenia's toe jumps are ugly but her loop and salchow are nice (loop is actually really nice) and while axel isn't the thing of beauty it also isn't as horrendous as people like to make it.

I think he just started rebranding campaign. Eteri should watch and learn. Because her "I don't care what you say my girl will take OGM anyway" attitude is not the best option.

Guys of course he doesn’t think Evgenia’s jumps are perfect and will rework most of them (esp the toe jumps) - but come on. We can try to be objective and say that for example her 3s and 3lo are among the best in the field? According to Ambesi and Dolfini, her 3lo is the best in ladies. Of course Brian will never say her jumps are awful now, but if he agreed to work with her in the first place he must not think she sucks at jumping *

Well her option works very well till now But yes Orser is a very good politician.

The comment I responded to stated that Sambo-70 isn’t hell on earth. My point was that Eteri has actually compared her training to hell. This is a stark contrast to Orser’s approach of fitting training to skaters and addressing psychological as well as physical wellness. And helping them unburden themselves when they feel overwhelmed.

I suspect the training methods under Eteri were cruel and unnecessary, likely even counter productive. I think eventually we are going to hear the horror stories but for now they know not to discuss it publicly. There have been enough signs that there is a problem there, or how else do you explain the many other skaters who have left the program?

Yes her 3lo and 3S are good. I wouldn't say she has the most beautiful loop though, just the most consistency on it surely.

It's not easy to rework a jump technique. I think the priority will be the lutz. And hopefully the way she picks up for the 3Ts in a combo. But he's not going to radically change the way she jumps.

Her 3lo and 3s look just like part of her choreo, not a landmark where she can make a mistake.

I don't think Eteri would have allowed Evgenia to go to Brian Orser: he's one of her biggest competitor, and based on the experiences from Elizabet and Evgenia he will now have an idea of which are Eteri's secrets.

Also Evgenia knew how these kind of things went for other skaters that left Sambo70 before (they all retired soon after that move: look at Polina Shelepen, Julia Lipnitskaia, Adian Pitkeev,...)

So i don't blame Eteri for her angry reaction but i don't blame Evgenia either cause Brian was her best choice and this was the only way to make it happen.

It's possible she was scared of her and her moves to be, but on the other hand, Evgenia apparently has a great support both at Federation and among people like TAT. Judging by community reaction Eteri does not have much support among even colleagues, what could have she done? Tie her up and lock up at the rink, go complain to Putin?
