Evgenia Medvedeva

https://mrsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20171219/1130289505.html - Evgenia is WD from Russian Nats and wants to be back for Euros

A little later it was decided that Evgeni would miss the Russian championship and continued systematic preparations for the European Championships. The decision was made taking into account the fact that just a week ago the athlete was removed from the gypsum and the leg should be taken care of, "the source added.

I think this is the best, wisest choice. She doesn’t need Nats to be named for Euros and OG. She doesn’t have pain anymore but she probably still needs to gain back her form. I think this is a good decision! See you at Euros Zhenya :)

Oh, I do think it's the smart choice. Wonder why she waited for so long before making the announcement.

Like Yuzuru, this is the best decision she could make. There is no need for her to push herself and possibly further aggravate her injury. May she recover in time to slay at the Olympics :agree:

“Personally, I understand everything: Evgenia was so determined to compete at Nationals that no one could convince her to do otherwise. It took bringing Mutko; Gorshkov and Kogan were there earlier (RusFed).”

Okay, makes sense... I can just imagine her stubbornly trying to compete and everyone else just having to drag her away by force.

I'm proud of Evgenia for being such a tough cookie, but I'm so glad adults stepped in and made her withdraw. Getting injured at Nats if she's not ready to compete would just be silly

A wise choice (eventually) to withdraw from nationals. I feel like this will only fuel her determination more to come out at Europeans and blow the competition away before Olympics.

i wonder would they ask Putin to convince her in case if Mutko couldn't do it?

Exactly my thought.

I was afraid that if even Mutko and Putin fail to convince Zhenya, they would need to bring in the ultimate argument: Eteri Tutberidze.

At NHK she changed the transition into her 2A from the spread eagle to the kick up into the air... I'm not a fan of that change at all from an aesthetic point of view. That may not be their only consideration though.

It would be nice if she was a bit more relaxed and more committed to that ina bauer she does before her 3Lo in the SP.

Beating a dead horse, I still think she should change her FS... and this week(maybe 2 weeks) is probably the last week where it's possible to really do that. If she doesn't, I hope she skates it with all her heart and wins. But I can't help but think that even if she does win that there will be an artistic missed opportunity that Eteri and Averbukh are to blame for.

And beating another dead horse, I hate to be mean but there's no other way to get the point across. If the ending to her SP isn't modified then there's a good chance she's going to become a meme and a target of ridicule. It's a creepy ending that's hard to make sense of that comes after most people feel like the program has already ended. And it sucks because it comes after such a great program. Like I said earlier, make it just one heart beat and have her clasp her hands above her heart.

I hate the long approach Evgenia does for her 3S... I'd love it if in future seasons they made the 3S-3T her first jump combination because it's easier to integrate that long approach right at the beginning than in the middle.

Yeah, the ending of the SP really is bad, especially for something like Olympics where people might only be watching the sport for the first time in 4 years and will never have seen it before. You feel like clapping earlier than you are supposed to, which just is poor design in my opinion. A good program ends when it feels logical to applause. The change would really not be all that difficult to perform, either.

I'm confident she and Eteri are smart enough NOT TO CHANGE anything!!!!!:sarcasm:

great decision!
would be stupid to go to a comp when you have nothing to prove for 2 years now

1 drawback is I wont see her live but Im not THAT selfish to put my interests 1st:biggrin:
