Evgenia Medvedeva

I hate when the media is way too interested in the love lives of people so young. Being 18 there are still some things you're allowed to, and should, keep to yourself!

Coming to think about it I believe we can say that we all want Zhenya to be happy so, yeah we want her to find love and be reassured she is happy in that relationship.... but asking these questions I can already feel the atmosphere freeze and get awkward... Zhenya is not a "little schoolgirl" type anymore XD so yeahhhhh

Uhhhh I hope people just leave Zagi out of this "shipping" thing and embarrassing questions about her private life... ALTHOUGH I'm still dying of laughter when I remember she wasn't given a name until her first birthday XD

Okay guys I have a question tho.....
Evgenia in RED?
Or
Evgenia is BLUE?

(Although red and blue are the iconic Zhenya costumes...

For me red, esp the Anna Karenina dress from Japan Open. She was stunning there (she always is though). The blue dresses (competitions and galas) were also lovely, but I think she is one idea too pile for them. And I still sob about the Leftovers dress, makes you think what it could have been this season if those difficulties hadnt come along :sad21:

Kinda weird that they got her dad to speak about her personal life, when it's clearly non of their business. Just like the "love" questions from before these are just so awkward for me. I get the good intention behind them (I guess)... but it's all about exploiting her dad for information she is not willing to share. She is a sportsman for God's sake not some "Morning Show" personality...

I still think her best dress was her W.E. one and her worst one was her Melodies of the White Night one (or the one from 2014-2015's free, that was pretty awful too)
I think Zhenya looks best in brown, blue, deep purple/maroon/red, and I saw that one video of her with the ice pick in an olive green top and thought that suited her pretty well, too.
I loved the Leftovers dress too. So sad to see it go :(

Match TV full interview (Yagudin-Medvedeva)
I think one of her best interviews.
Part 1:

Did you manage to relax after the Olympics?

"Only one day passed after our return." At the airport, the fans cheered up, who met us with flags. At once the team spirit rose. But, to be honest, I did not have time to rest, because yesterday, too, was a very busy schedule.

- Do not you think it unnecessary to meet after a long flight from Korea?

- No. I, on the contrary, are very glad that people go for this: they specially come to the airport, buy gifts, pay attention to you. This, on the contrary, gives strength.

- Let's return to the events that unfolded at the Olympics. Two silver medals for you personally is a joy that you have won two awards for yourself and for our country, or the bitterness of the fact that there is no gold?

- Rather, joy. From the earliest childhood, the Olympics was my dream. I remember when I was a little girl and I had my first interview, they asked: "Who do you want to become?", I never said that I was an Olympic champion. I just had a dream to feel the Olympics. I returned from the Games with a medal, even with two. So it's fun.

- I, too, for two seasons unconditionally won tournaments, in which he participated. Then at the European Championships, just like you, he lost to his rival - the man with whom he trained in the same group. I remember that we closed with Tatyana Tarasova and choreographer Nikolai Morozov in the shower room, and I could not understand - is this a reality or a dream? What to do next? With what face to go on rewarding? I was completely torn. You now have a similar situation. What's going on inside?

- I'm such a person that I give in to emotions. I have this, but usually people do not see it. It happens at night. I close in my room in silence and sort it out inside myself. I try not to succumb to emotions. Because I understand that in my case - it's just a way to nowhere. Guided by some emotions and not soberly assess the situation - it's bad. From this Olympics and the European Championship I just tried to make a lesson for myself. A lesson that will probably accompany me throughout my life. You just need to become better and not rely on someone's mistakes. We must rely only on ourselves. If you lost, then at some point you actually were weaker. Therefore, you need to overstep yourself at some point. I'm such a person that I do not turn back. I try to look to the future to prevent mistakes that I made in the past, and simply not to repeat those things.

- Your mother was engaged in figure skating. How many years has she finished?

"After the injury." At the age of 15.
When you close in the room at night, does your mother help you?

- I think that my mother and grandmother have already accepted the fact that I am talking about the problems that they can help to solve. If there is a problem that can not be solved here and now or in the near future, and it is necessary to wait until it can be solved, I will remain silent at such moments. Because it makes no sense to talk about it, because my family will worry about it.

- Did you know that your mother is flying to you in Korea?

- Yes, I knew the schedule of her flights and knew that she would not be at the competitions. We have such a tradition already: it does not watch the broadcast and does not even sit in the stands. She flew in after the competition.

- I just remember how my mother asked after any tournament, so that I sent her a message or called. It was necessary simply to say simply: what place and everything is in order. Is this the first tournament she went to?

- Not first. She flew to the World Championships in Helsinki, but only for demonstration performances.

- In numerous interviews you and Alina said that very often you help her in some aspects of life. How are your relationships within the group?

- Sport and life are parallels, but all the same different ways. In essence, I am a non-conflict person. I have somewhere in my nature that I feel a little, how to avoid sharp corners. I feel that the conversation is on the way to the conflict, and I try to avoid it. Therefore, in everyday life we communicate. If I see that a person is really difficult and needs help, then I will come to this aid. At a press conference at the Olympics, I said quite harshly that sport is a war in which you need to fight and gnaw your teeth. You go out on the ice, and everyone who is with you is in the warm-up - this is your opponent. In a sense, you even perceive them as enemies, which need to come out and win.

- In your answer the phrase was sounded: "I'm passing around sharp corners." It turns out that conflict situations arose.

- Without them, there is no relationship. Conflict situations happen to both friends and people you have recently met. And with my parents. This is absolutely normal. If minor conflicts arise and then resolve, then the relationship becomes even stronger. Therefore, I treat small conflicts as a matter of course. Without it, nowhere.

- Did you communicate with Alina after an arbitrary program of personal championship?

- Oh sure. The first thing I did was run and congratulate, because a person won the Olympic Games. It happens, sorry, not every day. Then in the plane we flew side by side. Unfortunately, Alina felt badly herself, there was a temperature. She overslept the whole flight. Therefore, it was not possible to communicate especially.

- I remember how we trained at the same time with Zhenya Plushenko in Alexei Mishin's group. We also had conflict situations, which we tried to solve. But all the same at the competitions it was really a war, a battle to the last. For example, in training someone did something, and the other sees this perfectly, wants the same and strives for it. The presence of Alina in your group is some kind of development aid or is it a deterrent in terms of psychology?

- For the whole career - junior and adult - never was such that in the group I was alone. Always with me, trained one or two opponents. When a person is ashamed before your eyes, you see him, he also looks at you and wants to be stronger than you. It turns out a ladder, on which you overtake each other. Yes, this spurs, makes me move on, but there are moments when the fire lights up inside, in the eyes, everywhere. When you realize that you are starting to overtake and you want to become stronger. This fire sometimes needs to be able to extinguish, because it can go to your loss. The most important enemy of an athlete is injury. It is very important to remember this. Reckless behavior and investment of forces can lead to irreversible consequences, traumas that will prevent you from going to the result, no matter how you want it.
At the beginning of the season, you had a stress fracture. Because of what it happened: due to fatigue or this endless race for more complex elements?

- On open rentals, I showed a completely different program, not Karenina. On the technical set, it was more expensive. Because of what happened a stress fracture, no one knows for sure. Firstly, we did not immediately withdraw it. Secondly, it happened so gradually, during half of the season, that there was not a point. You just feel a pain on the sly. If it hurts, then something is wrong. But, again, I did not tell anyone. It hurts and hurts. Went to the procedure. Because of what it happened, I can not say. I've always had high loads, throughout my life. This is familiar. You go out on the ice, and it's not that there's no rest, and the work goes at the same pace from the beginning to the end of the training. You have an hour and a half when you left, rolled out, rolled back the program, if something is wrong, then you repeat. If something does not happen at all, you do, without stopping, doing, doing, and doing. Until you do at the end of training. And you still need to turn around, walk the paths, and sometimes even for this time is not enough. And this pace and loads are familiar to me. Therefore, I can not name the reasons for the injury.

- In the season-2001/02, when there were six months left before the Olympics, I hung a calendar where I crossed out the days before the Games. Six months before your Olympics, you had a stress fracture. How do you remember this period? You were absolutely sure that you will overcome the injury and perform superbly at the Olympics, or were there fears that the injury might happen a relapse, something will go wrong and put a cross on even participation in the Games?

- Not that and not that. Two months, for which I had to miss the championship of Russia and Europe, for me were a little hell. It was difficult to sit flat on the couch and watch others compete without you. You understand that you can be there now and fight for the highest places. It was morally very difficult. But I knew within myself what it was all about, for which I was not there, but here. I knew that I would die, but I will go to the Olympic Games, then it's my dream. The goal to which I went throughout my career so that it does not happen is a relapse, not a relapse, broken, not broken, whatever. I will go to this Olympics and I will skate to my maximum, as far as I can at the moment and depending on the situation. The most terrible fear of me was to leave the Olympics with a feeling of unfinishedness. With the feeling that "but if I were stronger here, or if I thought about it." These if yes and if I, probably, then ate from the inside for many years. I'm glad that I do not have that feeling. Now inside I understand that I did the best I can at the moment.

Part 2:

Let's return to the team tournament at the Olympics. We only have silver. Many would be proud of the medals won. But in the minds of the Russian people, probably nothing below the first place does not exist. We performed with dignity in ice dancing. You and Alina are amazing, without failures they won their programs. Could the success of the Russian team, which was in Sochi, repeat?

- At the Games you can not have in your head thoughts: "Olympics? So what. Why should I strain? "All the same, a person comes out and does his best, puts all his strength. Yes, there are obstacles associated with preparing for this start. But still people do what they can at the moment. We were a team aimed at a gold medal. It's not a secret for anyone. We did not underestimate the rivals, because they understood what their compositions were. It was not immediately known, but we still figured it out. We went to our maximum. Therefore Sochi success could be repeated. I would not look back. Medals are already in hand, they are all issued, and you need to go ahead.

- Let's talk about your life outside sport. Everyone knows that you are fond of Asian culture. In Japan, there was a hit video where you read poetry from the film, as well as a performance in the image of Sailor Moon. Why did you choose the eastern direction? Why not the fashion of Italy or the food of France?

- It just started with food. In Moscow, a lot of sushi bars, and somehow I liked the eastern cuisine. This is the first acquaintance with Japan. And then in Japan passed the junior Grand Prix. I then did not understand anything, where I am. But I liked it there, it was great. After 2 years, I went to Japan and was imbued. I'm a person who loves silence. Prefer a calm to some kipishu.
Asia, in fact, is famous for such calmness.

- Even regardless of the fact that I was in a huge metropolis. Everyone was calm, smiling. There you are filled with soul, recovering. Therefore, probably, I have such an attitude towards Japan.

- Before the Olympics was in Korea?

- Yes. Four years ago.

- There you had the opportunity to meet the EXO boyfriend. I'm not familiar with their work. Tell me: who are these people and why do you like this Korean pop music?

- This Olympiad fulfilled another one of my dreams - I crossed with the guys. There are eight of them. I started listening to their music about a year ago. Very many do not share my tastes. I do not know why. My mother does not understand my preferences at all. When I turn on the column with the music, it flies from the next room: "Yes, I am. Turn off!"

- What kind of interference, yes?

- I always tune in competitions in headphones. That is, I listen to music for at least two hours. This, maybe, is some kind of meditation. The music tunes very well. I listened to all of their albums without stopping. In my playlist, they are uploaded in a row. At the Olympics before the free program I listened to all their songs.

- Do not you listen to anything?

- No. Only Korean and Japanese songs.

- Before the Olympics, you had 250 thousand subscribers. This morning I looked and saw 630 thousand. Do you follow what countries people subscribe to you from?

- No. Probably, it does not matter to me. Probably, it sounds strange, but I see how figure skating unites the world. Why do all these people subscribe to me? Because we watched figure skating. It is clear that all these 630 thousand people are not from one country, but from all over the world. I can not even fit into my head that so many people love our sport. And I'm glad that figure skating has gained such popularity.

- Do you read the comments?

- Yes. To begin with, I did not upload a single photo six months before the Olympics. And in the comments to the previous photos did not go. Now the Olympics are over. I have so much here that I can lay out. I try to read the comments. But it's difficult when you have 600 thousand subscribers and 23 thousand comments.

- In a personal write?

- Lots of.

- Are you answering?

- If possible and at will.

- What's the most funny and unexpected came?

"We'll have to rake up the directive in the intragram." But recently there was nothing bombing. Although it's amazing.

- How do you cope with this popularity?

- I do not attach any importance to this fact. My parents all my life taught to be grateful. I somehow try to look more deeply at this. A person comes to your page, signs, watches updates. I'm just grateful to these people that they are interested in the life of Zhenya Medvedeva's girl.

"You are a young and beautiful girl." Are there any sympathies for a particular person?

- I do not answer such questions.

- Good. The Olympiad is over. Are you ready to work another four years before the next Games?

"I'm not that ready." It is my goal.

- Are there any ideas on how you will build a training process? I heard that the rules in figure skating will change.

- I have not gone deep into the changes in the rules yet, the season has not yet ended and we have not been given rules on our hands. Therefore, I will not say anything, because there may be misinformation. Now my main goal is to complicate the program technically.

- I heard rumors that girls are already performing quadruple jumps.

- I still have not the triple ones the most complex set. Therefore, there is much to complicate.

- Now you have the opportunity to address people who worried about you and wanted your victory. What will you tell them?

- Usually I say a lot of words. But now I will say briefly. Your support helped me to cope with myself at this Olympiad. Thank you very much!

Guys.... Omg.... I'm in love???? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKa0L637qwE
I think Pan's Labyrinth would go so well with Zhenya's style... The main character is a young girl with a lot of fantasy and the film is also connected to the topic of death (Vox's article about 'Death' in her programs). Idk seems niceeeee... Sounds so delicate... Delicate just like Zhenya

I prefer the fierceness of kukushka though . She can fit both style tho.

So Evgenia has mentioned a couple of times now that she intends on upgrading her programs technically in the future in order to keep up, so I decided to come up with potential layouts that seem realistic for next season. (Also mostly because I am suffering from post Olympic depression, and I am ready to skip ahead to next season)

Short program:
3Lo-3Lo
3F
2A
BV: 33.93 (with spins + step sequence)
Current BV: 33.10
Assuming my calculations are correct, and under current rules, there is not a big difference in BV, but this is the hardest layout she could go for without adding the 3Lz. SP BV was not that far behind anyway.

Free skate:
3Lz
------
3F-3Lo
3F
3Lo
2A-2T-2Lo
3S-3T
2A
BV:64.72
Current BV: 62.33
The reason I didn’t put the 3Lz in the second half is because it got a full e in Nepela Trophy where she had it in the second half, so I assume that outside edge would be even harder for her on tired legs. Also, the 3Lo is the second repeated jump instead of the 3T. I think this is a good improvement in BV assuming she would still have that 2-3 point advantage in PCS, but who know what will happen until then.

She obviously needs to improve that Lutz edge to the point where she would be confident enough to add to the SP and to repeat in the FS. It would be really interesting to see what approach Eteri will take.

Interesting layout! But I have a question, I know the ladies can do the same jumps in the combo, meaning doing a 3T+3T unlike the men. But can they also do it with a 3Lo+3Lo?
I agree she needs to work on that Lz edge but also her 3Lo combos. She is the queen of the 3T combos, time to take on another challenge! :hap10:

I mean, this is what I assumed. She obviously can’t do 3F-3Lo and then a 3Lo as a solo can she?

Video of press conference dedicated to olympic results of figure skating:

Rules will change next season, it's too early to discuss.

They asked her a too personal question again. It's about her relation with Armenian culture.
There're already a bunch of patriotic idiots who question her legitimacy to compete for Russia because she's half Armenian already. This question just fuels those people's idiocy.

Although I'm a European, I don't keep up with Russian media or what social drama is going on in the Federation... But this is interesting. Would they have the same issue with Zagi or Mustafina due to their ethnic origin? It is funny how now Russian media pressures her to talk about Yuzuru Hanyu and their relationship but if they actually got together would they shame her for not being with a "good Russian man"? I honestly don't understand why would they not want her to enter competitions for Russia... So many famous Russians are of different ethnic origins (Who are somewhat celebrated in Russia) like Viktor Tsoi (interestingly enough Kukushka is his song originally) and even frickin Stalin. Or is Russia going through this "wE wANt tO hAvE aN eThNiCAlLy cLEan tEAmS" like Hungary is right now (Our prime minister literally said this :palmf:)? Why the problem with Armenia? If she was half french would they call her a western spy now?
