Evgenia Medvedeva

I'm flying! I'm actually within driving distance of Skate America (3 hours). I live in Washington state so it's a cross country trip for me!

I’m flying, too.

Yay, I am so excited to see Evgenia in the flesh!!!!

I haven't tried making jump layouts before, but I came up with this:

3lz
2a
3f-2t-2lo
2a
---
3f-3t x
3s-3lo x
3lo x

47.62
If 3f-2lo-2lo, 48.12.

Although I don't know if it would be practical, I just made changes to the layout from ACI. Maybe this would be for late in the season, Euros or Worlds.

But this base value gets close to that of Alina's (assuming Zhenya gets all her levels). So it shows that Zhenya is definitely still competitive for the top, though I don't know who was seriously doubting her ability.

if she can do a -3T or -3Lo combo on the back half of the 2A, that is more beneficial GOE-wise. But we probably shouldn't expect that for a while.

3a is comming soooon:clap:

I wouldn't get my hopes high. Even for ladies who had better axel technique from a scratch 3A is out of the reach or too risky. Zhenya's 2A looks better but she still uses her upper body more than I would like too (but it stopped looking like she is throwing herself into the jump which is a good thing)

I agree it's premature to expect a 3A soon. But once I thought her 2A was beyond hope and look at her now, after only a few months of training.

That girl likes to surprise us... ;)

True.

I watched SkateAmerica last night and saw how the new scoring system rewards cleanly-executed elements. That +5/-5 GOEs can really help or hurt. Hope we see Evgenia pick up those high GOE marks in her next outing.

Nope.

She has clearly improved though. Her stroking's cleaner, less effortful, and her 2A looks slightly better, too. It's not an "everyday's an epiphany" thing as some expect (and some others see), nor are these amazing, boundary-pushing improvements, but she's putting in the work. Orser does make his newer students focus on the technical aspects first. Maybe better programs next season.

Zhenya's new life chapter also opened a new chapter of my fan experience, since I am new to FS (2 years). I've come to the point where just seeing her compete brings joy to me, regardless what the results at the end is. Many people have been commenting on her, whether she has a chance to stay competitive or not but honestly, there are so many other skaters who doesn't win every time they compete and still they are amazing. That said, I just want to share that I am excited for next week! :cheer:
Glad you've come to love the sport. It will give you may years of joy.

And to appreciate that there is a particular grace and greatness that comes from a skater staying with the sport for the long haul.

Karolina Koestner, Mao Asada and others have brought wonderful grace and artistry to the sport, while staying technically competitive as they mature.

But it takes a different approach to training and technical precision to get the challenging elements as the body matures and ages.

Liza Tuktamysheva has spoken in recent interviews about how seeing the way Carolina trains with patience and care for her body has influenced her.

Zhenya has, in my view made a good choice, not only for the quality of TCC coaches, but also to be surrounded by mature skaters who are continuing to develop while taking good care of themselves physically and mentally.

I don‘t think we‘ll ever see a 3A by Zhenya. Her axel looks better now, yes, but enough for a 3A? No way. I love her but that‘s unrealistical. Look Liza - she‘s got a spectacular 2A yet her 3A still isn‘t consistent. Someone like Gabby Daleman, Wakaba Higuchi and Alena Kostornaya have wonderful axel technique yet still haven‘t landed a 3A in competition. 3A is ridiculously hard and having a good technique on your double isn‘t enough. Only a few ladies ever land it.

If we ever see Zhenya land one of the ultra-c elements, I think it would be a quad salchow. But that‘s far away now, I think both Brian and her know that they primaily need to focus on different things this season and be careful with her health.

Evgenia said that she would like to try a quad salchow after she gets her body healthy again. I believe under Brian she could get one. While Brian is Mr. triple axel, I agree we won’t be seeing one from her. But he already did a great job fixing up her double.

I agree. I think she needs to master adding loops to her lutz and flip and fixing her lutz, double axel - triple to or loop (which she does) and doing them in competition. Brian said she has been doing lutzs on the outside edge in practice. I hope to see one in competition this season

I’m flying, too.

Very cool there is actually a bunch of us flying to SCI. I will be coming with my daughter who is a HUGE Medvedeva fan (sailor moon girl is very popular in our household). I am closer to you Mrs. P as I will be coming from Calgary.

I'm flying in for SCI and am super excited to see Zhenya. It's my first time seeing her live and my first competition in general in yeeeeaars.

Hey any of you up for doing an SCI meet up -- is the nice folks at her fan forum doing anything?
