Evgenia Medvedeva

Yes, he's posturing for her attention but not fun, in the least. She specifically tells him that it hurt, and when he threatens again, from a greater distance, she says it would hurt and he says I know. Her tone is pretty obviously not amused. It's not connected to any bad atmosphere though, just the usual male teenager idiocy :palmf:

I didn't understand what they say before, now I can hate him... he could get her injured and didn't care :gaah:

To bring over something nice, I ran into this, missed it around Boston; BBC commentary.

I think this is probably my favorite commentary out of all for this program. The way Cousins is so genuinely thrilled at certain moments in her skating and especially at the end, about her ability to feel every bit of the music. :agree2:

Is it just me, or are they seriously starting to rub off on each other? :laugh2:

I love love loooooove hearing commentary on her LP at Boston. It's what made me her fan so it makes me so happy to hear that so many commentators were completely entranced by her performance. She truly makes it feel like she's a part of the music and it really sucks you in. :luv17:

:luv17: Thank you so much. I didn't watch this with BBC comments before. Who is the male commentator? He sometimes seems speechless ))) But /i understand him completely. I'm also thrilled by her performances.

That would be - this man. :luv17:
Robin Cousins, Olympic Champion from Lake Placid, never won the Worlds, but has two silvers and a bronze from them, and a European Champion

When you hear him exclaim like that, you know he's genuinely taken by what is happening!

Roman09 "her actual height is 157cm, weight is 40kg (by her words)"

Oh NO! Today, Dr. Zorba Paster, in his article "Bad news for Barbie; It is possible to be too thin." says people with BMIs below 18.5 (EM's is 16.2) are in danger of heart attack. (The web also says osteoperosis and lung disease)
Wait a minute...hold the phone....the BMI ratios of 25-18.5 are only for those 20 years old and over....phew...that was close.....:agree:

The bone density could be a problem - it is a problem for rhythmic gymnasts. Not so much for female gymnasts because of the high impact jumps they are doing, it improves the bone density. But figure skaters are only landing on one leg (makes me wonder, Satoko had the hip stress fracture on the side she isn't landing on ...). So I guess figure skaters, especially female figure skaters with a very low BMI need a very considerate off ice training regime.

I was being a bit facetious but getting away from EM for a bit, there is quite a bit of data of what happens when a person is starved, or starves themselves. I remember reading about German Soldiers trapped on the Russian front just falling over with organ failure due to starvation. My wife and I had an aquaintance who starved herself to death at age 40. But I can see how bone density could be an issue. I hope that female skaters do get the right sports medicine help they need, nutrician and training needs.
I asked Brooke Castile and Ben Okolski about what they got from the USFS Oly training center, et al, about sports medicine and if they were personally receiving any help in regards to all of this, and she joked, "Well, Ben wont let me eat..." but they went on to say that they did not receive any help. I did not get a chance to ask if they had requested it.
I do think someone should follow up on fashion "supermodels" with a long term study and see how they fair in the seasoned years...
I do worry about figure skaters doing 7G jump after 7G jump for years in their youth and how it effects their bodies later in life.....download an accelerometer onto your phone and jump off a three foot wall an see what it says and how you feel! Ouch!

Zhenia was said to have thyroid issue. I wonder if it affects her weight.

No way she weighs 40kg, minimum 45kg.

It could, but thyroid issues in children can be treated pretty easily, just as my own thyroid issue is....
http://www.mydr.com.au/kids-teens-health/thyroid-disease-in-children

At any rate, we shall see what she weighs when she is 20. Young female athletes can have all sorts of issues, good and bad, odd and benign. Lucinda Ruh, in her book, "Frozen Teardrop" states that she never reached puberty till her 20s. She further states that she spun so fast the G forces damaged her brain. I will have Mathman work out those forces...I try and not do math in public. ;)

I acutally do not know when she said she weighed 40kg...obviously at one time she did...we all did....Maybe Roman09 or someone can translate.
(A certain female person very close to me is 5' 8 in and weighs 125 lbs. This same person I have seen in real life very close to a very real EM in April 2016. I can well believe that at 5'2", EM weighs 40 kg/ 88 lbs. I doubt that she weighs 100 lbs.)

She could have thyroid issues, but they are either treated correctly or they aren't severe. She could never compete at that level (and with that level of consistency!) with serious untreated thyroid issues. Thyroid hyperfunction (induces weight loss) might sound nice but it damages the body permanently if untreated.

I remember Satoko is 40 kg and Yuko Kavaguchi 38 (her weight was alarming for coaches too) no way Zhenia weights the same, I believe she should be around 45
