Evgenia Medvedeva

This is what I saw live, too. It was a harsh but fair judging.

agree it was strict and fair judging. and yes if you put 3 questionable lz in the programs you will get punished because otherwise it would be not fair towards the other competitors. as zheny fan we always should stay fair.

did you see her a few seconds before she started the lp? so determined, I knew she would be clean, only her. In TATs words: the fire is back

I'm glad my wonky maths was right... from 7th to podium! And she would have won without that freak mistake in the SP. Well done Zhenya! And the FS is looking so much better as well! I'm pretty sure they'll change the layout after the 3LzE though.

Now on to IdF! She needs gold there to make GPF for sure, but a silver may be enough depending on how the other events pan out. Good luck Zhenya!

Did anyone have doubts that she would rise on the free? She's out Zhenya, she was born to do this.

YAAAS GIRL

So happy she made it! I was sweating when watching her. Crazy to think she would've won even with the mistake in the SP if it wasn't for all the things that have been called out in the FS. But the judging was fair and only shows that there is a lot of room to grow. Now I'm praying that a silver at IdF will suffice to make the final.

I'm also loving the new FS dress. The previous one was pretty but that's about it. The new one is unique just like her. :luv17:

wow I am over the moon for Zhenya! I was so nervous to watch the competition this morning, but as soon as I saw her in warm up I knew she would be fighing for her place on the podium. And she got it!! To win the LP is such a confidence boost and a big 'don't discount me' to all the doubters - I can't wait to see a clean SP & LP, imagine how amazing that will be :D

she looks stunning in the new dress as well, it suits the program so well and seems to give it that extra 'wow' factor that helps sell it.

Looking forward to Internationaux de France, although kind of glad it's a month away so my nerves have time to settle

interview with Brian after SC - google translation

"The coach of the Russian figure skater told “360” what they talked about with Medvedeva after the failed short program, what conclusions were made and what the athlete will work on in the near future.

Evgenia Medvedev at the Grand Prix in Canada took the final third place. Because of an error in the cascade, the athlete became the seventh after the short program, but showed the best result in an arbitrary one. According to a Canadian specialist, Medvedeva really wanted to demonstrate the results of work in recent months.

"Of course, after such a rental, as on Friday, you feel disappointed, devastated," said Orser. - For her, this havoc is special, because Zhenya made so many changes, she wanted to show everyone that she was better. I really wanted to demonstrate these improvements, but I failed. Of course, as an athlete, she was confused and tried to understand why this happened. ”

“I think we did very wisely by talking last night. I just let her talk about her feelings and the rest. Then it was my turn to speak, and I tried to give her strength for today's performance. I said that I had seen her willingness to compete many times before; I saw her desire to fight. I was with other athletes and saw her concentration before the start, the fearlessness on her face. To me, the coach of another athlete was a bit scary to see how tense she might be. I told her to return this condition, this expression. We need to focus, focus, return to the already familiar state. Do not look at others, do not listen to anyone and just do your job, ”Orser shared.

According to him, this short program was a lesson for Medvedeva and for the specialist himself.

“She was able, she made an arbitrary program. We both have to draw conclusions from yesterday’s speech, and this is also part of the process, part of the changes. I think we made a big move. He said today that one day she would remember this short program that had so devastated her, and would understand that she had helped her grow. This is part of growing up, further development. She managed to transform in 24 hours, I am very proud of Zhenya. This is a big step, and I am sure: in France we must be even better. The free program was not brilliant, but it was good, ”the Canadian stressed.

"We will not win all the tournaments"

“At the very beginning of our journey, I told my wife that we must be patient. We can come up with programs with which she can win specific competitions, but I look at the big picture, for the future. We are working on something big, large-scale, and this takes time and work, ”said mentor Medvedeva.

“If you look at its rentals at the Autumn Classic and at Skate Canada, then the improvements are visible, they are significant,” Orser said. - We will continue to act this way, from the Grand Prix stage to the final, then to the Russian championship, and to the next competition. Step by step".

“We worked a lot on skating, on the basic basics of skating. It takes months, maybe even a year. She grasps quickly, but not completely. And when we achieve this, the difference in skating will be obvious. This is her way to new skating, to female skating. It's not just about musicality or choreography. No, she already has good foundations, and she was trained by the best specialists in the world of figure skating. But our task is to bring Zhenya to a new level, ”Orser stressed.

“Even the greatest figure skaters did not win every competition. Zhenya was a brilliant junior and played great in the first seasons at the adult level, she won everywhere, won everything. But in women's skating everything is different, you have a different body, other features. You need to properly understand your strengths and know what competitions you will approach in the form, to win them. Remember Kim Young A (Olympic champion in 2010, trained by Orcer - approx. Ed.). She did not win all the competitions, but took the largest. There were Grand Prix stages, even world championships, where she lost. But she won the Olympics and other world championships. Everyone needs to be patient and work, ”the trainer summed up the results.

I stayed off Goldenskate and skating news in general on purpose yesterday. I think I needed some time to let the result settle and stay calm again. I didn‘t watch the competition but looked up the results straight this morning by reading the comments in her Fanfest. And when I saw: bronze! there I was really relieved.

What to say... Zhenya is really a fighter. What a personality this girl has, full of grit and determination. I do think, however, that Brian helped her get back on the right track after that disaster SP. It seems like they both were very frustrated because after all those perfect warm-ups such a mistake just wasn‘t planned in any way. But sometimes things don‘t work out the way you planned them and you have to deal with it. Zhenya did that. I haven‘t watched her LP yet but from what people said in the competition thread, she looked fierce, determined and strong from the very beginning.

Up to her scores... In a way I‘m surprised and I‘m also not. She won the FS even with a (for her) relatively low score. I think she does have the potential to score a lot higher. For that she needs primarily to work on her spins. I don‘t know what the problem is but she keeps getting level 3s and V on them. That‘s an issue that needs to be solved because the small things can often make the difference. However, she got the level 4 for her step sequence back!! That shows to me that they‘re working on this issue. We also have to remember that the levels for spins but especially steps seem to be much harder to get. Scoring at the GP has been very harsh so far. It will be interesting to see whether the trend continues next week in Finland where some of the big, big favourites this season will be.

For her score... I haven‘t seen the program yet but it seems fair. The e on her second lutz looks like a clear message from the judges: Two lutzes? You can get away with the one in the SP and one in the FS. But fix the edge before you put in all three. Which is okay and reasonable. As for her PCS: It‘s been lower this season but she‘s still scored about 5 points higher than Mako at this GP in the free. She also got the highest PCS in the botched SP. So, if she‘s clean... the PCS will also rise further. She also needs to work in her stamina. The underrotated 3Lo at the end is definitely caused by a lack of this. She can do 3Lo combos left and right in practice, so why not in the actual program?

What we‘ve seen so far:

Her 2A-3Lo

3S-3Lo

I know she needs to win in France and I frankly I have no idea how doable that is. She could have won here in Canada with a good SP. (I think even with a fall on the 3T in the combo if she‘d managed to do the 3F-3T) She could win in France, too. The field is tough there, from what I know Rika with her 3A‘s is there? Who else? I really hope she can make the GPF and I think that will be her goal, too. I don‘t want to make any predictions yet but at least the medal she got here is a pretty good step forward. She could have ended up with no medal at all and her chances would have been about 0 but now she‘s got the bronze and she can fight! That‘s good!

That for my (pretty unprofessional) analysis. All in all, these are things to work at in the future leading up to the GP in France. But for now, I‘m just proud of her. She got that bronze medal and while it probably wasn‘t what she and we all expected before the competition started and after seeing her practice sessions, she didn‘t give up, on the contrary she came back and fought and landed on the podium, even winning the FS! Yes, there are things that aren‘t perfect but what‘s most important: fighter Zhenya is still there. It‘s a journey and we - like her - have no idea where it leads. There will be bumps on the way and falls and fails and I think we‘ve all got a taste of this after her SP. But she‘s willing to work, she‘s a fighter and she‘s got the support of the fed. It will be more difficult than this year next season but for now all attention should be on what she can do to improve NOW.

Zhenya, I‘m proud of you. This will be a difficult season but your fans are prepared to take it with you! :luv17:  :yahoo:

Watched it and gosh I'm finally falling in love with this program! I was very unsure about it before, but this is tango and this is our beautiful Zhenya. I can't imagine how hard it was for her to come back from that SP, but she did it and it was a joy to watch.

Not sold on the dress yet, though I prefer black to the red she had before.

Can we all agree that her FS is coming along nicely? I've always saw the potential in it (I liked it more than her SP from the beginning) but now it's really coming together and is really good right now. It has the potential to be great.

Congrats to Med for winning the Bronze medal with such a lovely skate and for winning the FS.:cheer: To bad about the
mistake in the SP otherwise she probably would have won Gold. She looked so happy and confident on the podium and it is
nice to see her rewarded for her hard work.

I liked her LP ... I wasn't convince at first but I think with time it will be a great program ... I think the SP was awakening call for her ... that this time she will need to fight harder to win ... and I think medvedeva is a fighter who likes to win and don't hide from the battle ...

My other thought after the long program is that maybe after her first competition they try to "fix" the LP and the SP was a little bit forgotten

I have to point out one thing for everyone to keep in mind going forward. Especially for anyone worrying about the finals. Zhenya WON the free skate. So think of that free skate with a smooth SP? Comfort level rising for the gloomy gooses out there? :) Every skater has a bad day but you learn from it and move forward and grow from it. It’s especially good that it came at the very beginning of the prix season. She had an obstacle and she overcame it. Boost of confidence moving forward for her! Also a situation where she and her new coach bonded. Cool stuff all around! When is France? Helsinki is next weekend.

According to the past, skater who has 24 points in the Grand Prix is nearly 100% can be qualify to the Final, I think sliver in Paris would be enough for Zhenya (15 points for the champion of each GP event , 13 points for the runner-up, 11 points for the 2nd runner-up, so Zhenya has 11 points now). But I have the faith that Zhenya must be the champion in Paris:agree2:
