Evgenia Medvedeva

Seeing Zhenya so upset made my heart break, and I can't imagine how upset she is right now. I just want to give her a big hug, because she's such a sweet girl who works hard and doesn't deserve the hate she gets (who does?). I know that people are going to eat her alive for finishing off the podium for the first time, but I can't do that. She's still the Zhenya that made me fall in love with the sport and still the Zhenya that I love to watch. It makes me upset to see her struggle, but I know that the struggles will help her learn. I can't believe that there's no GPF in her future and that she finished off the podium, but I guess we HAVE to see the good, the way Brian and Tracy will help Zhenya to do. At least she had one lutz, her double axel was improved, her choreo sequence and step sequence were fire. I know it will take a while for Zhenya to see the same success she used to have, but I believe that it will come.

It's not the end of her season. She has Russian Nationals, which will be hard, yes. I know that if she skates cleanly, she will have a chance at making it to Worlds. Even if she doesn't make Worlds this year, she has the SB and WS to get GP spots for next year. Brian's methods take 18 months, he said, and that will be GP season next year. She can be like Liza Tuktamysheva, who struggled for three seasons and is back with a vengeance. And it's not like she's already successful - she has world titles, Olympic medals, GPF titles, etc. But she keeps going, and I commend her for that. Because it can't be easy but she keeps doing it.

Good luck, Zhenya. Come out and slay them all.

It's so difficult and heartbreaking for me to watch our Zhenya fall apart during the programme.. and her hesitant facial expressions at the beginning and throughout skating are so painful.. as well as seeing her sadness at the Kiss and Cry. But it is comforting for me to see that Brian and Tracy stay behind her, console and comfort her.

But it's fine. It really is all fine. She gave everything she could, an if at the moment everything she can do is what she just did, it's alright. Everything will come together at the end, no matter how long that might take. I just hope she realizes that herself and is able to find her inner peace and strenght once more.

Here is a, in my opinion fitting, quote for Zhenya..

“Your strength doesn't come from winning. It comes from struggles and hardship. Everything that you go through prepares you for the next level.”

She looks so different from the old days.
Things are changed a lot: confidence, technique, movement. It will take her time to come back, although I don't think she'll ever get the same scores as before. We can only wish her the best and recover the steel confidence she had.
I hope her entourage will support her. On the other hand, Orser did not hide his disappointment, it was almost shocking.

Well, there's no person alive who would be immune to all.this hatred, especially a young girl. I'm.really hoping she wouldn't end up like Yulia who could not stand to even look at skates for a long period of time.Zhenya, it's not the end of the world!!!

I think this season will do her good even if it hurts now but how miserable she looked at times makes me worry. She has to go through it, this stage takes time, she's rebuliding her skating. Not everything can work immediately sadly, she only can keep working hard and fighting. Of course, it's not easy and I can understand her struggling emotionally but no one has such a spirit like her in current field, so I still believe she can come back.

At this moment I don't have any negative feelings for her not qualifying for the gpf or not ending up on the podium. I'm just sad that she came out without having it in her to fight. And she had chances. I just wanna give her a hug. But I think that they should analyze the situation, which is obviously psychological, and work on that. If she needs to take a break for a season, so be it. I don't wanna see her kinda lifeless like that :(

I know what Orser should do. The Tsarina needs to be the artist again. She needs to skate in front of crowds without the pressure.

Before nationals, he or Austin should take Janny to do surprise random performances as part of other exhibition shows in the next few weeks. Even if it is something like Disney on ice. Have a surprise performance where she will perform her SP, FS, or an EX. They can even whisper it to fans somehow a day or two before the event. Do it at three such events before nationals. Teach her again to have fun, to forget the nerves, to love it.

Zhenya is a strong person. She can only go up from here. She can rest, heal, and sort things out for future competitions now. I hope this experience makes her stronger. It's amazing how the crowd cheered for her the moment she stepped on the ice. She has many fans who love and support her no matter what the results. This transition stage is hard and challenging but it's essential for growth. We can't expect great results from day one. All my support for Zhenya. :)

I will support her no matter the scores, she has this fighting spirit inside her and I hope to see a completely different Zhenya at Nationals: more joyful, confident and focused.
She must not give up and believe in herself as many of us believe in her.
Keep fighting Zhenya, we love you!!!

Honestly I think they may be doing too much too soon with her. She's just gotten her 2A improved and it may be too soon to be adding new combos. It looks like she got too much height on the first 2A and was rattled by it for the rest of the program.

Mentally>>>>Technical

Just don't know what is she doing? Nervous? Angry? Hesitate?

She no need to proof herself anymore, seriously, but I think she still care about what the hater's judge, maybe? Two horrible mistakes and say good bye to GFF... I know I shouldn't blame to her, but I have just saw the worst performance of Zhenya... The most disappointing thing is, those mistakes are not because she can't do it but she just affected by her negative mood... It shouldn't be happen in Zhenya, she's a tough, strong, positive girl, always overcome all the difficulties, not like that...

Honestly, I thought that she would stop in the middle of the program and just give up. This was so difficult to watch. She really has to stay out of the social media until RusNats, people will be pouring so much nasty things onto her right now. Also, cut those interviews and whatever. She needs a safe bubble at the moment in order to gain her confidence back. I am also wondering if they have been working on the flip because for me it seems that the execution has worsened since SC and I am not talking about the almost a fall/step out thing. Her toe pick looks like her old one, however, she's grown and the old technique won't be really working anymore. I am also not sure if the constant changing of layout is good for her. She comes from an environment where she used to drill her layouts x1000 times without any changes.

I agree, going from drilling the same content to keeping changing from competition to competition, it's very unstable.
Also, I just wanna throw something at all the media and sambo70 who aren't even supporting her. You're literally ruining a world-class skater.

But she can do it! It looked amazing in all the practices. It's all in her head.

It's my first time getting sad over ladies FS.... I bet Zhenya is crying out there just like how I wanted to cry now :sad4:

I thought she was happy with her new coach... but she seems so miserable now just coming to ice. I wonder what is going on there.

I am 100% sure that it's not her coach. Of course it takes time to accustom to someone new after having been training with another coach for so many years, but I think in her case it's mainly the pressure she puts onto herself, causing her loss of confidence and increase of hesitation.
