Evgenia Medvedeva

Maria always gives interviews after Zhenya's competitions. She already has one after today's unlucky one. It would be nice if she could talk to Zhenya.

What did Maria say? I hope something constructive. She was a favorite of mine.

The German Eurosport Commentator criticized Orser's body language. How he was turned away from Evgenia in the K&C and looked away from her and basically left her alone emotionally and physically. The commentator but also said that maybe he just interpretes too much into the situation. I must say I am always happy how the German Eurosport commentator is so supportive of Zhenya and said that she will go through this dark time and come back stronger like Tuktamysheva after her dark time after 2015 Worlds.

Re Brian (I follow the TCC skaters more than others): with his other skaters he give them a moment for themselves to think about what happened and kinda like reflect for themselves for a while and doesn't speak a lot in case it can trigger more tears. I mean, if the skater seems ok he says one or two things, but if, like Evgenia they seem close to tears, he says even less.

In an interview he said at first its hard cause he needs to discover how the dynamic with the skater will work. I will give them a while, it took Yuzuru and Brian a while too and now they are close, and Yuzuru is/was less open than Evgenia.

Thanks for letting us know! Makes perfect sense, I just didn't know whether he usually does that or if it was an unusual reaction from him.

If it makes people feel better, this was from someone who was onsite:

It seems Brian was pretty supportive, and whatever that was onscreen was not what it looked like. DaNiCG is likely correct that he was trying to give her some space. he was probably as shook was she was.

What did Maria say? I hope something constructive. She was a favorite of mine.

Her main point was that it was probably a mistake to include a new 2A-3Lo combo. She was nervous, it was crucial for her to skate clean, and there was this new combo right at the very begining. So she made a mistake, and it ruined it all for her. Most importantly, mentally. It was probably not the right time to try something new when there is so much at risk, and when she just needed to skate clean and confident as at SC.
She also said that now Zhenya takes 3rd, 4th after being first, after being a leader, after not letting anyone getting close she becomes someone who has to start chasing others. It will be hard. Zhenya needs to get herself together, because if she skates like that at Nationals she will not be able to go to Euros or Worlds.

I am feeling so many emotions. Anger, sadness and disappointment. I am frustrated with the decisions her team has made during this transition and at this competition in particular. It has all been said so I wont repeat. I know she is not alone and I was happy to see Tracy rubbing her back. They all are still getting to know each other.

I hope her team regroups when they get home and make a plan. What is going to help rebuild her confidence? What things helped her in the past with her previous training that can help her now? Maybe she needs to do more run throughs, drill spins like clock work, pick a layout and stick with it, change her music, see a sports psychologist. I don't know Evgenia and maybe I am projecting, but there are some people who say yes to everything. I hope she does not feel the pressure to say yes to all these things/changes to make people happy.

I hope her soul can heal from this. It is a set back and a disappointment but it won't define her.

You will come back Zhenya!

That was so hard to read I am sorry Zhenyas heart hurts.

how can she be a traitor when she still represents Russia and always will? Top Russian male ice hockey players have lived and trained and played outside Russia for decades as well as Russian tennis players have lived and trained in America for decades while still representing Russia and they aren't considered traitors so who in their right mind would consider Medvedeva a traitor? Russian hockey icons Alexander Mogilny and Sergei Federov defected from the Russian army and from Russia 25 to 30 years ago to play hockey in North America in the National Hockey League and they are icons of sport in Russia and they freaking defected which is a traitorous Act. Those two great hockey players are icons in Russia and they deserve to be. it's certainly not fair for Zhenya to be ridden so hard like she's a traitor which is ridiculous.

Zhenya really needs Nationals now no matter what because she will receive a tremendous amount of support and love and it will make her feel so good. She needs that.

Media and social media are a great part of that. They started it all in May with the headlines that Zhenya will switch her citizenship and will represent Canada so that even those who never watched figure skating became furious. Right now every single step that Zhenya does is preceded in the news with "Russian figure skater who moved to Canada/Canadian coach." It just became a super popular topic, and all websites just compete in clickbaiting, while the comments section becomes as toxic as football (aka soccer) section used to be.

I am so relieved to hear that her Instagram account is done by her agent. I actually had no idea!

I think we have to trust the process. Anything that is worthwhile is hard. I have yet to meet a person who has not failed. The most successful people I know have failed many times. But they learned from their mistakes, forged ahead and never lost their spirit.

Unfortunately, Evgenia has to go through this process before everyone's eyes. But this is her world...the successes are spectacular, and so are the failures.... In her young life, we have witnessed SO MANY successes. Now we are seeing her fail. Something tells me she will learn from this, forge ahead and never lose her spirit. She, as Brian had earlier said, will just have to live through the changes for now, which will be painful at times (such as this very moment), knowing that she will come out a better version of herself. Even better than she ever thought she could be.

For now I share her pain. But I am hopeful. I will trust the process, stay by her side and will always cheer her on.

Her lutz was not called in the protocols. Thoughts on this?

I hope when they study the protocols, they will point it out to her, so that she knows that even in her darkest hour, there was something to celebrate.

Did anyone see Ashley Wagner's tweet. It was super classy.

"Evgenia is still queen. I think this year is mentally so completely different than anything she's ever known, and we all have to just sit back and wait for her to figure it all out, because she absolutely will. She's got longevity, and this will take some time."

I did! Loved it. She also did say great words about Zhenya after SC (not sure if it was on twitter or Instagram stories). So classy!

Social media has crazy power and it can cause harm like what's happened to Zhenya. She must feel overwhelmed now especially since eyes on her from around the world since her unbelievably gotsy yet controversial coaching change. The stress level for her must be off the charts.

It is really sick, isn't it? And so unfair. There are plenty of Russian skaters who have changed countries and nobody cared. She didn't even do that.

They say the best revenge is living well and I hope she will just keep going and refuse to be written off no matter what.

It's incredible that she "failed' here and still was 4th, and the highest scoring Russian - a whole lot of people in the world would be happy if they ever had such a "failure." Of course we know how much better she has been in the past, but many of the greatest skaters have bombed a lot worse than that. Just look at the men's discipline in general...

“Just so you know, you can still send support messages to #EvgeniaMedvedeva via the TCC address 141 WILSON AVENUE, TORONTO, ON M5M 3A3. We did this for Yuzu and Brian is happy with it. She needs to know our support now more than ever, that we'll be behind her no matter what.”

After Yuzu got injured last year and had to WD from NHK and Nationals, we don’t know if he was healed for the Olympics or not. It was a dark era. We all sent letters and even a huge banner filled with uplifting messages and quote to support him.
Maybe this is what Zhenya need right now.

What's more, there have been so many skaters from other countries that have been trained by the Russian coaches, and they have never experienced anything like that. How many skaters did Tarasova train or help? It is totally fine, as it is supposed to be.
Or even now Elizabeth Tursynbaeva has returned to Eteri, and some Russian fans (and media) really were saying "Go Elizabeth, entire Russia is rooting for you!" at SC when she and Zhenya were facing each other. I can understand personal preferences, but I can never understand turning someone into a public enemy and making everyone root on purpose for someone who is not from your own country.
I just hope that soon figure skating becomes boring for such sick people who got in here after "breaking news" and we will return to a kind and supportive community.

but she doesnt have much time left !!! that's why people are impatient

Tuk , Zagitova, Samodurova are there
so are juniors breathing into seniors soon Trusova, Kostornaia, Scherbakova, Tarakanova

She has plenty of time until the Olympics, which is her stated goal. 2018 RusNats have nothing to do with 2022 Olympics. Even if the state were to cut her funding, she has enough money to see her training through to the end; she did all the math before she made the change. She has time, and when she settles down and clears her head, gets over this psychological hurdle, she will also have the results, because she already shows them in practice.

Lost in all this hysteria is the fact that she landed an actual lutz this time. She did not receive an ! or an e, and it's not because she's the skating world's little darling or because the RusFed is pressuring the judges. Not anymore. Now she's all on her own, and she's (usually) rocking the 2A and starting to jump a proper lutz, and that's after just a few months. These "juniors breathing into seniors" should be trembling...
