So it will be Zhenya, Liza, Stasya, among others. What kind of venue is this event in?

It's a fairly small arena or so I heard. No one expected it to become this high level competition all of a sudden

I'm nervous and excited already... and this time Zhenya has been keeping such a tight lid on everything. Barely any updates since she returned to Canada and nothing from Russia either, much unlike how it was last month. I'm sure she was still training at CSKA these past days, but took no photos with anyone to keep a low profile. I hope it helps her keep her focus going into the competition!

I feel like I am in the minority in thinking that Zhenya has a very decent shot at the Worlds team. Her only competition are Stasya and Elizaveta, assuming Sofia and Alina are locks.

If Elizaveta shows she has mostly regained her pre-pneumonia form, then she's on the team for sure. But with her recent showing at the Dragon Trophy, her spot should be highly contingent. It may feel unfair, but she shouldn't be sent based on her body of work this season if she's not ready when it matters for Worlds now.

Stasya was just as inconsistent as Zhenya and shouldn't be as much of a lock as people say. She worked hard and was fortunate to skate well and win Nats, but proceeded to perform poorly at Euros. She's just as risky as Zhenya and they had very similar skates this season.

Zhenya still had the highest free skate score of the seniors at Nats. With her SP hopefully more comfortable now, she has a decent shot. Internationally, her PCS advantage is still nothing to laugh at.

It should all come down to whoever skates best at the cup final, so no one is in or out yet.

Stasya has had a better season than Zhenya. Not alot better but better. The difference being Stasya did better at Rusnats and made euro team. A year ago the idea that Stasya would have a better season than Zhenya was unfathomable! But Zhenya had the 11 year itch if you will and left her coach and club and that changed everything and made her vulnerable this season hopefully just this season to be beaten by what used to be much lesser skaters. That said I think Zhenya has every chance to pass Stasya and Liza if she can find her form and confidence again. Liza's illness has opened the door for Zhenya and Stasya. That's reality. It's unfortunate but Liza got seriously ill which changed everything.

Oh, I see! I hope that some streams aren't geo blocked this time

Yes, I just want her to perform two programs that she can be proud of. The rest is out of her hands.

I feel like I watched last year?
So there must have been some YouTube stream then.

Did Stasya really have a better season than Zhenya though? After crunching some numbers, here are their average scores & placements this season, with international scores only in parentheses:

Short Program: Stasya 63.18 (60.93), Zhenya 65.40 (66.45)
Free Program: Stasya 129.66 (127.89), Zhenya 134.98 (132.08)
Total Score: Stasya 192.84 (188.82), Zhenya 200.38 (198.54)
Placements: Stasya 3.67 (3.60), Zhenya 4.00 (3.00)

Stasya was only better at Nats, beating Zhenya by 7 points with generous PCS after Zhenya's disastrous Short. Zhenya's season only looks disastrous compared to her prior, dominant seasons. She was inconsistent this season, but far from disastrous.

Thanks for this fact-based rebuttal.

Definitely feeling anxious and excited for RCF! Although I wish it was held in a bigger venue with more professional coverage and whatnot, it's possible that the small stature of everything could help Zhenya. I'm excited to see her skate her programs in front of a home crowd again. Regardless of what comes out of it, I'm happy she gets this chance :)

It was close. But reality says Zhenya has a great opprtunity at cup finals to make her move. She know the home crowd will accept her. If she haa good sp watch out.

I wish Evgenia could have come to the US SOI:sad21: We always have the same skaters and none of them are international skaters:palmf:

Oh, even the starting order is up already? Ok, so Zhenya skating in the first group and right before Liza. Tbh, I'm glad she skates a bit earlier. She used to say she liked skating last, but I get the feeling waiting too long for her turn before the SP has been screwing with her nerves multiple times this season, at the Nats in particular.

I agree. I like this starting order for her too. So excited.

Her agent is hustling and I appreciate it! Get that 10%!!! Everytime she’s in Japan she gets more opportunities too. I haven’t looked at the schedules but I hope she’s able to get quality rest in the off season.

At least some of the shows in Canada are local and the rest are a short plane ride away. I am excited for her off season!
