Evgenia Medvedeva

Johnny has always been supportive of her from the start. :agree2: She was very happy to get to know him better this summer.
Didn't she also say in Boston that her fav skater (aside from Yuzu of course) was Johnny Weir? She must have been very happy skating in those FaOI shows with him. :) Esp since Johnny is fluent in Russian, no trouble in communication.

I've read some posts about Med's puberty today... I suppose this group of "puberty awaiters" will survive till 2022 or even till 2026

I think we can call them "pubertiebers"(like Belibiers). Probably every night they pray to God of Puberty to send one upon Zhenya to prevent her from winning.

They should pray harder. Eteri gave her secret pills to delay her puberty till 3026 (about puberty delaying pills i've also read on this very forum ).

So I watched the movie "The Pianist" the other day, and look what was a big song in it: Chopin Nocturne in C Sharp minor!! The same piece Evgenia is skating to in her short program.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS4YDuTfJ7Y

Here's the summary of the movie:
"In this adaptation of the autobiography "The Pianist: The Extraordinary True Story of One Man's Survival in Warsaw, 1939-1945," Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a Polish Jewish radio station pianist, sees Warsaw change gradually as World War II begins. Szpilman is forced into the Warsaw Ghetto, but is later separated from his family during Operation Reinhard. From this time until the concentration camp prisoners are released, Szpilman hides in various locations among the ruins of Warsaw."

Anyone think Evgenia will skate to the music with this movie in mind? If she does, I think it would fit her.

It was a beautiful movie, I'm not sure how to feel if she would skate to it with this story in mind but that's actually possible (and very smart of you to connect that).

It's interesting but I really hope that it's just a coincidence... We already had one holocaust program (SH.L) by Averbuch in Sochi so I don't think it's a very good idea.... :noshake:

Now I'm even more nervous about test skates this weekend :slink:

Please no Holocaust program.
This year Danil helped with Zhenya's choreo so I hope he kept Averbukh's creative voodoo under control

PS. Actually this piece has bigger story. It was played in real life by Holocaust survivor in concentration camp during commandants birthday party. He was so impressed that he lat the pianist and her sister live

Yeah...for Evgenia's sake, I hope to god they don't go with the Holocaust theme, although it would certainly be peak Averbukh to do so.

Averbukh has zero awareness, his giant ego is blocking out everything else so I could easily see him thinking it would be a splendid idea.

I certainly hope Eteri and Daniil are smart enough to see why it'd be a horrid one; it's not just the whole Holocaust thing, within the context of her previous programs and that she'd get slammed with the whole it's exploitation, etc talk, it's Yulia as well and her SP from 4 years ago.

Fingers crossed they did not go down this road as honestly, Zhenya deserves better than this. We'll know on Saturday.

Not every music have to have a specific theme behind it. I'm sure Chopin wasn't chosen because of The Pianist or even if it was, I doubt Zhenya is going to interpret characters from the movie.

I'm looking forward to her programs, especially the FS. I love all the music choices she's using.

Zhenya's style of skating leans towards telling stories. Even this off-season EX with Anna Karenina was a story told, much like we had for both her previous LP skates. So if they have chosen the Pianist and with Averbukh it is more than possible, then yes, I expect there will be some sort of interpretation of all of that and that's enough to push it over into trouble-land.
As I said, fingers crossed it's just a "clean" skate, devoid of anything of the sort.

I was trying to be optimistic! :slink:

Actually I believe that the video of "The Pianist" is an edit because in the movie he plays Chopin Ballade in G Minor (the same music that Yuzuru skated to) so I doubt that will happen.
