Evgenia Medvedeva

Okay, I rewatched Evgenia's program at video which I posted below. I'd say first part of this program are very good, I really liked music and her stsq. But after this she has to jump and jump. She has no time to rest. As I said it's very dangerous to put all her bad jumps to the second half of the program. This is a big risk. She is not Alina with good flip/lutz, who already did all her jumps in the second half in the last season. But her desire to complicate the program speaks of her champion nature. In the last two years she proved to all she is the best in the world. And now, in the Olympic season, she wants to prove to herself she could be even better. It's amazing.

That's what I like about her. She doesn't allow herself to grow complacent. What a real fighter :)

Now not even her flip is good? Geez, how did she manage to beat all those skaters for years? I guess they didn't have any good jumps then? :scratch2:

Sarcasm aside, do you think maybe she's working on making a deeper outside edge on her lutz? It really wasn't questionable today, yet she stepped out of it, so I think she might not have gotten it fully down yet. And I feel like the flip mistake was from being shaken from the lutz and a bit tired, this program really is a beast.

She has definitely been working on the lutz. IMO the backloading is what got to her today. Therefore, I am really looking forward to next week as we all know that she will work harder to perfect this program and we could get a better look at it.

I mean it seems reasonable that the backloading was the problem but she made mistakes on the first two jumps, and not at the very end (that axel at the end was fine, would get 0's and +1's easily due to the Tano) - so I don't think the lack of stamina was the issue. Maybe she got a bit scared today for some reason, debuting such a big change in her program.

Her programs always keep getting better as the season progresses, I have faith in her that she will nail those jumps come important competitions. If she manages to skate this program cleanly and with conviction as she usually does, not even Alina can touch her :)

The article from the previous page said that she was skating on rentals? How did that happen?

What will be at the next week? Nepela will begin a week later, and it will be another test. Her main exam is GP.

In the recent interview TAT said that Evgenia might got tired because these past 3 days she's been working like 3 men [emoji50]

She said similar things before, about how Evgenia does more jumps in a training session than 3 men. :) That's why I think today's messups with the Lz and F weren't about the lack of stamina, rather that she for some reason wasn't as focused as normally.

She also said Evgenia got "overheated" ?? I dunno what she meant but it's quite hot in Sochi

Making another comment... I may eat my words like last year when I didn't like the program at first and then it grew on me, but ... I absolutely love, love, love the SP and it is way, way, way better than the FS and I'm skeptical I will ever like the FS. People say she may have been tired... maybe she'll prove me wrong... but I don't think so.

In the FS, there's no jumping with any musical highlights(4 jumps in last year's LP was on a musical highlight)... there are actually fewer interesting jump transitions even though it looks like she added one in front of her Lutz(which may be a mistake)... only her ending layback spin is done with the music and the music there kind of sucks. She has to overinterpret the music in the choreographic and step sequence and she underinterprets the music during the jumps which together makes the music seem a bit incidental. The best piece of music is at the beginning and it steadily gets more boring. The only choreography after the step sequence is wavy arms and cheap tricks. I actually like Zagitova's choreography and transitions when she does her jumps because at least it doesn't bore me.

What exactly am I supposed to get out of watching this program? Because I get nothing... no emotion... no message... no images... nothing... where's the glamour?

Is this something they will want put on the Olympic youtube channel where people will be closely comparing it to Yulia and Yuna. Not to be cringy and creepy, but people fell in love with them and are they going to do the same with Evgenia with this program?

If Evgenia wants an iconic olympic moment... a Yulia moment... she should dump this program and get a new LP on her best SP: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

The job is to win the moment, not win the math. The math will happen if you win the moment. I'd either go back to her old layout or a 2A 2A 3Lz| 3S 3F 3F 3Lo +Combos, or a 2A+2T+2T 3Lz | 2A 3S 3F 3F 3Lo +Combos. I'd also give focus to the 3Lo and 2A transitions. Her last 2A in her LP doesn't have a good transition which I kind of find to be a waste.

The thing I fear the most is Evgenia winning a close contest and the internet getting angry... aka, another Sotnikova situation.

Here's a conversation at on the FSU board that I found funny and I agree with both sentiments:
Aussie Willy: Medvedeva just showed unless she has a massive brain fart why she will be the OGM
Suki: I am sure even if she did, the judges would give that element a level 4 with maximum GOE. I haven't been this bored with a potential OGM long program since Beatrix Schuba in 1972.
Aussie Willy:Actually it was her SP I was commenting on. That girl used every ounce of the music. Her body movement and fluidity is stunning. And the jumps do not miss. I couldn't take my eyes off her. Love it.

Once more for emphasis:
Yulia Lipnitskaya : Schindler's List :: Evgenia Medvedeva : The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

I just read TAT comments. At the first minutes of her SP I felt that she doesn't feel well. She looked tired and was pale. That's why I wrote that mistakes don't bother me at all.
I hope that she can rest a little bit before Bratislava but smth tells me that she won't give herself any free minute... She looked so sad at the end of her FS :palmf:

Another thing I wonder about is why oh why did she go back to her old lutz technique? I assume it's because Osmond is kind of doing the same thing but I really hate that lutz setup. I really wish she would switch to how she was doing it in 2015-16 and early last season...

Yeah, she really was heartbroken. She said "thank you" to the public. She always wants to show her best, such a perfectionist. I don't think we have to worry about the jumps. It is just the start of the season. Her aim is to reach a pick of her form in february. Last year her best form were at Russian nationals. The coaching staff wants her to rich a pick a little bit later, so I think that's why she was not perfect in a FS yesterday.

I don't know if she wants and iconic moment but I know she probably wants to win. Besides her SP is really good and I see no reason why she should change it. LP is not my cup of tea and personally I would come back to W.E. long program but I also know it has lower BV than new one.

Comparing Med to Sotnikova has no point. People got angry because Yuna was favourite just like now Evgenia is. Also Koreans have no skater able to challenge her.
