Evgenia Medvedeva

From Daria's ask - Zhenya and Polina will leave for Japan tomorrow with Eteri.

That's so nice to hear! :) I often wonder if all the Russian ladies are bitter enemies..

Zhenya and Lena are neutral towards each other...
But Lena and Alina are quite friendly. They were even talking to each other on the podium!

Are Evgenia and Alina friends?

Here's recent Alina's interview (in russian but google translate should be fine)

https://www.sports.ru/figure-skating/1057182203.html

"- Who is your favorite figure skater? Idol?

A: Idol? In figure skating ... I do not even know. In trainings I folow Evgenia Medvedeva. In general, I like gymnast Alina Kabaeva.

- You said that you don't feel any rivalry with Medvedeva, only sort of training game

A: I'm not rival to anyone. And in trainings we sometimes play. Eteri Georgievna tells us: "You make this jump, and you - that". We do not compete with each other.

- But your game is not becoming more serious?

A: I think not. Zhenya and I take it easy. "

I'm really curious: does anyone know if the red string she's wearing on her left wrist has any special meaning?

I don't know. She started wearing it somewhere between GPF 2016 and RN. I think she may have received it as a birthday present.

Its the Red string aka Kabbalah if I am not mistaken, its the receiving side of the spiritual body, widely used in Israel as protection from misfortune and evil eye.

The color is the same but it's still very different from what we use in Israel if you look closely. So I'm not so sure.

EDIT: It actually make sense taking into consideration that she believes in such things.

I don't know if that's the case, probably not, but it reminds a lot this . It's quite common here in Greece for the girls to wear it especially in March.

Wow I guess there are a lot of possible meanings! I looked in the internet and it said it can also be for anorexia  but I think that's probably unlikely too, since Zhenya seems so happy and healthy.

This is also important in Hispanic culture according to my research.

Marin is right, it's something from Israeli tradithions. I have many friends wearing this. You need to make a wish and when this red string breaks you wish will come true. In Russia, this interpretation is common.
