Evgenia Medvedeva

No one would even mention her if she and co didn't start it first. Welp, yeah you're right, enough of that.

Change of topic, do you guys think Zhenya would come back to The leftovers program next season? I've watch it again and find it quite elegant, less pantomime, music is nice, many moves that are in music. I think it could be great with some changes.

I loved it too. She just needed a bit more time with it. If she ever comes back to it I hope it’s not next season. I want her to try something different, maybe something more fun.

She can try something fun in her new sp I think. One fun and one elegant :agree:
Changing programs always carries risks in term of consistency, and there're talented juniors moving up and her rivals getting better too.
Since she skated to The Leftovers at the start of the season, she already trained a lot for it, things would be easier for her if she decides to keep it for next season. There would be more time to get consistent to it, learn new jump (since she wanted to try quad) and perfecting techniques.

I liked the leftovers program music, but if she did want to use it again I’d really hope she changes the ending. After her last spin that last little bit of pantomime is unnecessary as the audience wants to applaud. It doesn’t feel like a strong ending.

But in saying that, I feel like she dropped it for a reason, so if she moves on I look forward to what she does next. I could see her doing a similar jump layout as the leftovers program to increase her base value.

I think for me The Leftovers was nice but had a couple issues:
1) ROUGH music cuts. Like. Really rough.
2) It was veeeery similar to her previous FS. Not a bad thing per se, but I'm glad she's showing more variety
3) Forced backloading that didn't fit the music. I'm not against backloading when it works (see, Alina's DQ where it goes really well with the music) but it felt unnecessary and forced in this program
4) The ending was very anti-climatic and the music didn't rise enough in the second half of the program.

So, I wouldn't be completely opposed to it but they would have to rework it and make it a better, more fluid program for me to fully enjoy it. I would rather they went for something completely new though. Still, RIP that beautiful costume T_T

That program certainly needs rework, even Averbukh said it isn't polished enough and they would change things along the way ( that was before they decided to take Anna Karenina instead).
The first half is good but the second half has issues like you guys said.
And yes I'm bitter about the dress too T_T.
Btw, if she continues to work with Averbukh I don't think he wouldn't bring that program up again.
If a change of program means a change of choreographer then I'm all for it. If it's still Averbukh then we can only expect The Leftovers or a similar program if they don't go back on it.

"Newly crowned U.S. junior champ Alysa Liu's idol? Evgenia Medvedeva. "I want to be just like her when I’m older, or I can just try to be like her now.” Coach Laura Lipetsky looks to Japan's Rika Kihira for inspiration; she wants Liu to start working on triple axel. #USChamps18"

Looks like Zhenya is a young skaters' idol not only in Russia

how can one not be inspired by such a mentally strong girl? :)

And her skill, artistry, and consistent track record...?!

She's never finished off the podium in International competition (20 gold medals, 1 silver, 2 bronze)... the last time she was as "low" as 3rd place, was in juniors, 4 years ago... she's won gold at every senior competition, except one (and its been two years since that silver medal)...

I actually really really liked the ending. I thought that in the beginning she shows us a line she's not ready to cross - a fear of hers that she cannot face. Then, through her skating she shows us a metaphor for gaining courage and faith as you go: you get through easier, lighter times (the Divenire part) and through some really tough ones (the heavy music from the Leftovers + literally a tough layout ;) ). In the very end she is faced with the same fear from the beginning and is startled again, but she has found faith in herself and manages to find the courage to finally cross that line.
That's how I interpret the program and maybe I'm completely crazy, but I know some other fans have seen it too, and it goes with the explanation she gave (though it wasn't very much). The music cut as the jumping passes start in the second half truly is very very rough and the jumps weren't matched well to the music, but there's potential and if they fix it I believe it could be a wonderful program, even though it's kinda difficult to interpret.

That said, I'll go that far to say I wish that after winning her golds or silvers (in a worst case scenario) this year, she could compete in a more relaxed manner the next season. I kinda want her to do a K-pop short program  :o: Imagine the sheer joy that would be bursting out of her. And she does have the skill to do a fast step sequence to match the music :drama:

K-pop is a no go for a competitive program, no judge would take that seriously. She can do it in her ex though. Also, relaxing is no good for a competitive athlete, your rivals are improving so you need to improve even more.
I just read in an interview on this page https://vk.com/evgeniaarmanovnamedvedeva (with google translation's help) that she doesn't correspond well with The leftovers program as with Anna Karenina. As much as I like it, maybe a new program for next season is better after all. Again, RIP the beautiful dress

Some stuff from Alexandra Trusova's new interview (03.01.18) https://twitter.com/morisnourd/status/948558720488886275
"Who is your favourite in terms of character and choreography?"
—Zhenya [Medvedeva]
"What touches you in her skating?"
— Everything.
"Do you remember when you first saw her [Medvedeva]?
— I saw her before I moved to Eteri Georgievna's [Tutberidze] group. We didn't talk back then, she didn't know me and I was watching her like she was a star, a celebrity.
Then I moved to their group, came to the changing room and we started talking. I enjoy being with her together. And then we lived in the same room in Novogorsk.
"Were you upset when she was forced to miss GPF because of the injury?"
— Yes. She promised me that if I make it to JGPF, we will go to Japan together but... I wish I could be in the Finals with her.
"What kind of character do you have?"
— I don't even know [laughs]. I hope like Zhenya's, a strong one. But overall. I'm shy. I wasn't like this as a child.

:cry::sad21:

Well, she get the edge fixed, that's on her to be fair. If she suggests something that can help then ok, not that I agree with her attitude though. I believe Zhenya is sensible, she knows what to take and what to laugh off.
Anyway, no need to pay Courtney anymore attention, let's focus on our girl instead xD

aka Zhenya's first return to competition after a while, I'm so nervous :hopelessness:
