Evgenia Medvedeva

My mom and I were cheering so loud after she finished. BRAVO ZHENYA! She has shown the struggles at Euros were a fluke, her jumps look better than they have all season and she is on her way to the highets spot at the podium :cheer:

I saw that she was trending worldwide on Twitter, and judging from the comments, it seems that she impressed everyone! :luv17: Nothing but lovely comments for my lovely girl

I'm not going to say anything because I don't want to jinx it.

But ahem, if anyone finds video of this, please, please share!

Record score too.Well done, Evgenia! She lifted up the team and put them in good position for tomorrow night. Also, as someone else said, it was a good opportunity for her to shake off the olympic nerves before the singles competition later on.

Her axel still looks quite problematic but my girl did well !! I'm happy for her 😄😄

I actually hate that part of the documentary. The makeup is... :slink:

Anyway, super happy for her skate today. Getting a WR when you skate for the first time at the Olympics :points:

Thats the silver lining to being injured this season, she could put up records at the olympics that maybe she would’ve set at the gpf. Beautiful Olympic debut Zhenya :eeking:

Congratulations Zhenya on the well-deserved win! Her skate was beautiful and smooth. What a come back! The WR was expected, maybe another one at the individual event. ;)

I learned my lesson - never watch Evgenia skating in real time. I did this mistake only once, for the SP ein Euros, and jinxed her axel because of my nerves 😁
I got up this morning and the first thing to do was to look up for a video. I am amazed. So happy for her, so well deserved. She was nervous but this time she finally showed her old self, in real predator mode with fully concentration on the programme. 💪
The only problem I have is with the commentators and also many of the comments I've read here on GS. People always try to make her accomplishments look small - like, she just skated the best SP after her injury without mistakes on the OLYMPIC ice and they still try to convince others that that is nothing special. Both Eteri girls make it look so easy that everyone thinks it is quite the standard for all skayers, but only with Evgenia not taking part in GPF you could feel how underwhelming that competition was because she is in league of her own and nobody can measure her.
I am praying and hoping to see a skate like this (even better) at the individuals 😊

So, as always, I decided not to watch live, but something woke me up at 5 am just in time to see Evgenia's result and then watch the performance 5-10 times on repeat

Another "world record" and the first lady to score over 81 in the short program. She was incredible, and she can go even higher because the first spin and the axel weren't flawless. Her axel isn't bad btw, maybe just not as stable as her other jumps, so I don't get why some people are making it seem like a huge issue.
I haven't picked up all the turns and steps yet but her step sequence looks so unique. She does such unusual and difficult looking turns, I think she should get a level 5 for it  :points:

What makes me extra happy is that I really think this result will boost her confidence, in the case it got shaky after the injury and Euros.
