Evgenia Medvedeva

Can't believe there're ppl who want Alina to win because they believe that coach favoring b*llshjt because "Eteri seems upset", what do they know? They only see like 1 min of her after alina sp and that's the whole story?
Olympics ladies is bad enough, fandom is even worse, I don't care anymore about her winning because it's unlikely at this point, but if Zhenya isn't happy about her performance on the fp like she wasn't about her sp then that's it, I'm out.

Those are mostly people who simply hate Zhenya and are looking for some justification for their wishes, they in fact don't care at all about Alina.

I’ve never been this nervous for a competition before. For once I’m glad that it’s starting at 5 am where I’m at. Means I’ll wake up to the results.
I want her to fight as hard as she could and give us something that she could be proud of, no matter the results.
We will all be there for her, won’t we? :ghug:

Hoping for the best tonight but I'm afraid it will be like Euros, where she skated last but there was basically no chance after Alina's score..

Of course we will be!

You know what just hit me? Her life is a movie-like story. When she was a little girl nothing indicated she would be two time world champion one day. She didn't have superb flexibility, her jumps weren't the biggest and her technique was nothing special - she was one of hundreds young figure skating girls in Russian ladies' field. But she was stubborn, hard working and trying to be perfect. I remember people saying she had no chance in senior field and she was only next "One season wonder" but here she is fighting for OGM few weeks after serious injury and not giving up. Not to mention her amazing sportsmanship.

Many say Kim Yu-na revolutionised figure skating and pushed it forward and I agree. But I also doubt we would have now ladies' trying 3A and quads or coming back to -3Lo combos if it wasn't for Evgenia's dominance. She was unreachable to anybody with "standard" elements so it is time to level up the game.

Even if she won't win OGM (I hope she will) she won't be forgotten as "One season wonder" but as amazing skater who was aware of her flaws (f.e. she has only one lutz knowing it isn't her strongest jump) and always tried to develop even more (see her new spins position ) and at the same time she was just an ordinary teenager who loved popculture just like majority of girls of her age.

Her mother works in the production of animated series for children and today their episode is dedicated to Evgenia.

Wow! the animation is excellent, I didn't know that Russia had such a good industry in that field, it's like Pixar hahha. How nice, the girl skating in the pan had Evgenia's eyes, aww.
What a talented mother Zhenya has, I understand why she loves Studio Ghibli and anime so much.:luv17:

----------------------------------------------------------------

Why are almost everyone singing a Requiem?
This is just one season, which also had an injury. She is not obsolete, and can stay competitive by adjusting her layout. There are so many possible modifications for her, especially if she manages combos with 3Lo, and if she wants she can move all the jumps in the second half. A new season is coming, and everything gained and lost in this is in the past. She is only 18 years old, and a lot to deliver.

About the super-juniors, guys, yes they are great and monstrous in TES, but that doesn't assure them anything, because nobody knows if they survive their puberty. In fact Trusova threw two quads, but lost to Anna. You can have the most difficult program in the world, but the ice is always slippery, but ask Mao Asada.

well, Russian Medal Machine seems to devour its children.

But good point about the juniors not being comparable. It's just kids doing big jumps, but not much else to them....yet. No guarantees.

I honestly hope Evgenia will last. Maybe if ALina wins, it will be good news for Zhenya, since it's like she would pack the money and go back to her family (she seems more passionate about making life good for parents than skating to me. Skating it's just means to the end. Whereas Zhenya is more devoted to the skating).

The next season there'll be Rika who does 3A in combo and solo, and -3lo combo with air variation too, and she seems to be consistent with those. It's not as far in the future as you see.

The problem is the current judges wants big jumps and nothing else:palmf:.

According to Alina's interview she does seem like it's more about supporting her family, but who knows, she may have developed her love for skating in the mean time. Waiting for another retirement to go up in ranking is not what I want to see, and not what Zhenya wants to see too, she's competitive.

3 loop combos don't last long. Why do you guys think that very few men do them? They're tough on the body.

The problem is girl at 15 is on senior circuit. Each year there's at least 1 of them in the circuit and they'll continue to flood in.

I knew it :agree: I wish Evgenia to have the best skate of her career, with no regrets.

I'm pessimistic but she has at least next season , "best skate of her career" is too soon to say :palmf:, maybe "of the season", yeah. No the layout may not change, i heard it's just a mistake.

That's true. It doesn't matter if 3Lo combos don't last long. Even if every girl only lasts for 1 season, there will be one skating against Medvedeva. For better or for worse.

For me, I've thought that this is her window to win the Gold but it really will be tough. 2 years of being undefeated and completely dominant, even. It feels like she would deserve an Olympic gold medal for that. I wouldn't be crushed if Alina won with a brilliant performance but... she has time. I am not so sure Medvedeva does.

I meant best skate of her career yet, I don't look that far into future ;) I would like her to go for it but that's me

Although I would like to see Zhenya win the gold medal, it doesn't matter if Alina wins it instead. She will remain a very great champion, as TAT said. And that's why I will support her more in the next competitions, no matter what happens.
It is not just her performance, it is her personality, the dynamics she has created around her that is important. Zhenya has already marked figure skating. And it is this flame that I still hope to see for many years in Zhenya's eyes.

I only wish him the best.

edit: I've just seen that it's giving her 0.5 to BV so yeah, but she's going to give it her all smth I always respect about her

Exactly, even if it’s just 0.5 she is willing to do everything in her power to win. She’s so tough 😍

I always think maybe up the required age to 18 would be a fairer game. But actually 15 isn't a matter only if the judges to what they should do with pcs, but they just don't. And of course, because of that skaters' competitive career shorten.

Let's be rational, please. It seems to me that an aura of pessimism has invaded you. Evgenia can still stay COMPETITIVE, I'm not saying she can be No. 1 always, but she can compete and fight for medals, including gold. Let's list:
1-Reached 160 and 155 points with a 2/5 design (3 single + 3-combo in the first half)
2-Except this season where she has skated injured, her landings are much more stable and have better extension than all other ladies, including Alina, who has doubtful ankles and falls short
3-She CAN change the layout in the coming seasons, they are 4 new years, if she works in 3F-3Lo, 3s-3Lo, and maybe if she fix her lutz (pray for that)
4-is better interpreter even when she is only a teenager, imagine her at 21, skating some elegant tango
5- Juniors are unstable, the only one that has a real projection is Alena Kostornaya and maybe Anna (if their skinny bodies don't change)but we will not see them in seniors until 2 season. .
6-Alina will go through puberty soon no one knows how that will end, and if she wins the gold now, we don't know if she will continue, according to the Russian history of missing young winners.
7-It is almost unlikely that Evgenia will gain weight, her body type is an advantage over others
8- Mao Asada had the most complicated layout, even more complex than Alina's, with better skills and interpretation than Alina, but even so it was not a totally winning card.

9-and the rules can change, it is most likely. Remember the proposal of the three categories

Med, successfully passed her puberty, is very thin, was always in avantage on the other girls (Radionova, Elizaveta, Pogorilaya, who sank in the past seasons), unless she is injured again, I don't find reasons for her to disappear or pond. Moreover, now she has more reasons to work.
Anyway, seriously, I think she can keep fighting and winning if she works hard, this sport is progress, she's only 18, a lot to learn, and Russia always suffers a large percentage of casualties due to an injury or puberty would doubt more about the continuity of Sotskova and Zagitova than that of Medvedeva.

I remember Mao, who changed all her technique, she could not in Sochi, but she won the Worlds, China Cup over Lipnitskaya which was the new sensation of the moment, she also won the 4cc, all this at 23 years old.

Anyway, now I just want Evgenia to be focused, execute her FS well and fight to the end for that gold. Goooo :cheer:

I want to be optimistic as I was at the start of the season but look at this now. The past scoring is still muchhh fairer than it is now, we can't draw any parallel. Mao is underscored because she's japanese...imagine if she's russian or american. And at that time ppl bomb more often comparing to now so it's pretty unpredictable. Now girls are very consistent and the field is much much deeper.
I hope to be wrong, but I kind of need a mental preparation.
