She has to be able to pay for it herself, which is not a small amount at all. If she can, I think she can go.
As for another coach, well look. I have as a whole, no major issues with Eteri. But in a year's time, where will they be? Trusova, Kostornaya, Anna S, Tarakanova, all seniors. Do you really think the Fed won't be pushing for those kids? And Eteri is a Fed coach. Look at how they dropped Zhenya this season, like a hot potato. Once not one, but all of them switch over, do you really think the Fed will care about one Zhenya Medvedeva? They care about medals and 'certain bets'. She will be fighting for spots, never mind anything else. Eteri herself doesn't have the best of views on the longevity of female skaters and how long will she hold on to Zhenya with new blood coming in?
So one of the ways to get around that, or at least try, is to get to a coach who can help her primarily technically and who isn't Fed dependent. She doesn't need Daniil. She can finally go abroad and get choreo from any top choreographer. But technically, someone strong enough in the field to work on her jumps is at this point what she can focus on. (It's kind of a pity Raf is out of the question now because he's good for the jumps, not so good for the rest but that's all right for her current self).
This really is about Zhenya and what her long-term outlook is and I don't see anything good there if she stays with Eteri. She has simply aged out of it, considering their system. But if she wants to jump ship, the time is now, so that she can have at least one season to adjust with only Alina there, before the others come in.
If she stays, she stays, and everything crossed.
As for the rumors and it's never ever happening.
Yeah, and she wasn't injured, and everything was all right and those silly rumors are not true stop it. How did that work out?
It would be highly surprising if these particular rumors are true as it would be very difficult to resolve the two issues I mentioned up there, even if she wants to, but what people say in public is never a reason to go - oh they're not true. They're public figures and nothing should be taken at face value. Difficulties involved with her potential leaving are a far bigger reason to think they're not true.
There is moment in the documentary where people from Fed were watching how Zhenya keep falling on training and their faces were speaking for themselves. They just lose their faith in Zhenya. So, after Zhenya´s injury, the Russian Fed feared if they do not push Alina then they will lose gold?

Zhenya has no obligation to dismiss the rumors. I’m saying a part of me will believe them until that time. Look at Yulia. Eteri has a tendency to focus on up and coming talent, and there is plenty of it. Zhenya won’t be able to get the same kind of attention anymore from Eteri. And Zhenya must be questioning whether their staff really created the best program for the reigning world champ to succeed.
I’m not a skater but I trained under coaches like Eteri. I predict she will start to pour her energy into her new “star.” And I suspect it will be one of the juniors, maybe Sasha, who she can mold for the next Olympic season.
No, Eteri's group is known for that there are no prima donnas here. And till this time it was so. Maybe people forget that Evgenia is still recovering from injury, so it's better for her to have a well-deserved rest and fully heal her foot.
Basically.
They wanted that gold and weren't sure Zhenya would be able to get there so switched to pushing Alina's PCS.
From what I've seen in Russian social media it is rather possible not to be the simple rumor this time. Anyway everything will be clear in two weeks, let's just hope Zhenya will make wise choice.
Thanks! No, I live in Saint Petersburg since February, so now maybe only in some competition.@dante great to see you back. Did you manage to see Zhenya live in person?
All good points. Personally I don't think she'll end up leaving because since she'll end up paying for the coaching expenses herself and the Fed has not been known to support (or is it even forbidden?) their skaters going abroad. Jumping technique to get stronger on that Flutz and get stronger tech content without a bunch of 14 year olds breathing down her neck and some great choreo is what (as a fan of hers thinks) she needs. BOrser would be a good fit for her. She would do great with D. Wilson, G. Buttle or S. Bourne choreo and BOrser was a technical BOSS in his hey day. He focuses on the basics and skating skills to build up a foundation to get the jumps and the overall quality of the program. The BOrser team just (at least from the outside) to be a much more caring team than the factory at Sambo. I do worry as a fan of hers that she will eventually get aged out at Eteri's which would be a crying shame because she has so much more to give! I'm not saying that going abroad guarantees success and maybe Team Eteri will prove me wrong but that team and Rus Fed in general doesn't have the best track record the last 8 years with young skating girls. Hoping the best for her...
What do you mean by this? I'm new to skating and keep seeing statements like this about the Fed pushing one skater or another, and I do not understand what it means.

It is not written. I'd prefer not to elaborate it since it is nothing real now. It is just my intuition from quite strange behavior of some important users and groups. What do you mean? What is it written?
These conspiracy theories are just ridiculous. The Fed wanted the gold and the silver, and they got them. Eteri wanted the same and she got it too.
What do you mean by lobby? The judges score what they see, don't they? They don't artificially inflate a skater's scores because the skater's nation asked them to, right? All Feds lobby for their skaters, especially chosen skaters.
This isn't a Russian thing, it's very much universal. In this case, you could say they lobbied/pushed Alina's PCS so that by the time Olympics came, her PCS was already way, way up and her victory was pretty much guaranteed, which is what happened.
This is why Zhenya lost. Yes, Alina has her technical side but Zhenya lost because of the PCS, not TES.
I think there no use in reading face from such intrinsicate person as Eteri, she is the excellent coach for young girls and choose for every girl the best approach which brings the best results on competitions. If look on real facts the interests of Alina were never violated because of Zhenya. She gained the winning Olymic programs and was brought to the most important starts on her top form. Can you honestly say that Eteri didn’t focus on Zhenya this season? That doesn’t make her a prima donna, just that she was her main focus. I mean look at the kiss and cry’s. She is always there with evgenia and that’s not so for the other skaters.
Her strategy has been to train many juniors but when they become seniors focus her energy on those she sees with the most potential.
