Evgenia Medvedeva

It’s hard to sense it with Zhenya because she seems so cheerful all the time, but behind that smile is a girl with a big heart and bigger balls than most guys.

Don't let her beautiful face, sweet smile and genial demeanour fool you - she is one hell of a competitor! The thing that I admire most about her isn't really about her skating but about how mentally tough she is and how she is able to always rise to the occasion and deliver. Most of the time, delivering the best performance that she is capable is enough to win - it just wasn't at the Olympics but I have no doubt that she came out and skated the best she could at the time at the OG. I think it was Meghan Duhamel on TSL (an episode about the 2018 WC) that mentioned how mentally tough she is and what an amazing competitor she is. She said something along the lines of "if Evgenia came to WC, she probably would have won as there was no one that dealt with pressure better than her". They were discussing the state of Russian Ladies FS and the consensus was that careers lasted a couple of years at best just due to insane amount of young girls in the wings doing crazy technical stuff and Meghan said something like "she thinks if anyone can sustain a longer career it was going to be Zhenya because her biggest strength is her mental toughness and that's something that you can't really teach". Well that was a long spiel.

Is she allowed to come in late?

Honestly, something happens, cause I really doubt that Eteri would allow her to do so many shows, when she was injured and missed a lot of training.
Look at Alina .... she doesn't have any scheduled show for the upcoming months.

At this point maybe she will leave Eteri.

I'm sure they have it sorted. She can only resume training in mid May, and I assume she won't be able to go full force right away. She'll probably focus her training in July\August when she's 100% recovered and she'll be ready for either a late CS or a late GP

What a relief. [emoji29]

To be honest it is not logic to miss the training start.

We don't know when she'll be allowed to even train! They were thinking midway through May, but we don't know if that's still the case and she will probably have to do medical exams ecc ecc. Team Eteri aren't stupid, they definitely will make a schedule that's good for Zhenya to train and heal and do shows too.

Until the crazy speculations have ended though, peace out

Mentally I think doing shows is a good thing for her so she doesn’t burn out with training. And the love she gets from Japan is important to her confidence. Getting silver was hard for her and I think the shows may remind her that she is still a success, even if she’s not a gold medalist. I think returning to train immediately with Alina and the other juniors may also be hard mentally without taking some much needed time and space away to process and regroup.

Realistically it’s unreasonable for her to be training nonstop in a non-olympic year. It’s probably the reason she got stress fractures. Even Simone Biles took a year off completely from gymnastics before returning to training for the next Olympic season.

Watching that documentary with (~) eng subs was kinda depressing. It looked like a "good bye to Zhenia's skating career" montage. FeelsBadMan

Her future plans as a skater, just saying... she will need a lot of money I think.

Are you hinting at the rumor about Canada? I am just wondering if it comes only from russian forums or if there is any other more or less reliable source?
Why Dave Lease is so silent, we need information.

I DONT think its healthy for evgenia to leave eteri, she might be harsh and strict coach but she brought evgenia to the top, and by that alone you know that eteri cares a lot for her.
