Evgenia Medvedeva

Wow, that is something... i wouldn't have expected her to leave Eteri, even if she didn't win the OGM. Although I was convinced that something is happening in the last week or so.
The figure skating is unpredictable, indeed.

Oh so it looks like she is in heavy talks to not leave sambo 70

Good for her. I can tell she is done with putting up with Eteri’s BS. If she stays she is gonna have some strict rules to limit Eteri’s influence. But I think it healthier to go elsewhere. Eteri better do some soul searching since this has become a pattern for her. But she likely won’t. I would not want to be someone training at sambo 70 in the next few days, hope Daniil stands up for those girls.

I hadn’t heard the rumors until I read about them here, I don’t know Russian, but I know athletes and can read people. The signs have been there for a while. I would love to see more of the translation of Zhenya’s conversations post Olympic kiss and cry because I think that holds a lot of clues into her current mindset.

Zhenya deserves all the health, happiness, and success in the world. This was a brave decision and I hope she’s starting to realize she is in control of her own future.

OMG I leave for 2 hours and all this happens! I want to know official news before commenting in detail - we still don't know where she's going. I really wonder what made her change her mind since she was so close with Eteri - I wonder whether it was Eteri herself or having too many juniors around making the environment too stressful.

For me, I really, really, really hope she goes to TCC: much healthier environment without 12yo competitors doing quads and SS improvement with the best of the best.

If she stayed in Sambo without Eteri or went to CSKA I think it would be the wrong move tbh.

It's called damage control. Classic.

And hey, I am sure they will try and talk her into staying. I mean why wouldn't they. She is amazing skater and if her trouble is with Eteri, then they can offer her a different coach.

We'll wait and see what Zhenya herself thinks!

Yatagarasu is always right I am learning. I just wish you would predict something positive to come true with your psychic powers. Not that this might not turn out positive for the Tsarina with a new coach. Change is just always unpredictable and nervous in a way. But change can often turn out to be a good thing, a challenge, and an avenue for growth. Maybe Eteri taught her all she could really and now it is time for her to move on and grow somewhere else. Time for her to reach for the next level in her career. We will see. Could be an exciting thing too. Curious to see her new programs!

leaving Russia looks smart but i am worried about pcs, goe and lutz.

so maybe people who wrote that Yuzu Zhenya gold medal 2022 in pairs were right

How many skating rings has sambo 70? Would she see all the time Eteri?

atmosphere in Sambo would be tensed

There are rumors and there are rumors.

Did it never occur to any of you to ask one of us why we might believe this more? For example, did I once, ever, bring any rumors here about her supposed change of coach? Nope. Did any of you ever think to ask why the Russian figure skating fandom believes this story? Nope.

I clearly remember being yelled at here, when I said she was injured.
Now I got this, so that's twice over. Let's see what the third will be. Oh right, we still don't know who the coach is. Well well. Should I go for three.

Yes! Go for three! Tell us who her new coach is Oracle!

The trainer her forced 2 last seasons to play at giveaway - at any the patience will burst. And while Zhenya has her name she has decided to stake everything and to begin a new Olympic cycle with new team. She will be attributed to "Sambo" (rules are that), but to train at the foreign trainer. It for the first time in the Russian single figure skating. IronZhenya.

Wow. I'll be honest and say I'm not disappointed at all, because I really do think she's outgrown Eteri. She needs better choreographers and more advanced training if she wants to stay on top...Eteri's methods may work exceptionally well on junior skaters, but when has she ever had a successful adult skater?

Regardless, I'm worried about what the ramifications of this decision could be. I don't want another situation like Yulia's. Either way, I'm happy Zhenya took the initiative. I'll support her no matter what!

Anyone else think that this may be a temporary thing in order to improve technical jumps with a better specialist?

Well it's an unexpected announcement, as I said on the main son, whatever she chooses to do I will support it.

Now go Zhenia for this Olympic gold medal;)

Seriously though, I wish but with this particular situation there were too many flags popping up all over the Russian fandom for it to be a typical rumor that means very little.

I am biased, obviously, since I stated here right post-PC that I would like to see her leave Eteri but I can try and put that slightly aside to go in reverse. Since she has left Eteri, that means Zhenya herself has at some point decided that it is better for them to part ways. Now we've seen this young lady for years now and I'd say we all think she has a very good head on her shoulders. So if she has thought it through and this was the decision then she thinks that overall, long-term, this will bring her more benefits than staying. So yes, change is never easy but at the same time, change is growth. And in her particular circumstances, the way Eteri's group is structured, she must have seen all the potential problems. As I said just yesterday, she only has this one life so if she can get someone who is experienced in handling more mature skaters, then it's perfectly understandable.

About my three for three - I honestly don't know who the new coach is, I'm also insanely curious. I can guess but heck, my guess is just as good as any.
But I can say that I think Zhenya Medvedeva will be just fine. She has a mighty fine head on her shoulders.

What's your guess?
