I feel like one thing people aren't mentioning is that training with someone like Orser would be much better for her mental and physical health.

Not having to be compared to 12-15 year olds in terms of weigh, size, ability will be so refreshing. People will be looking over her to make sure she's as healthy as she can be rather than looking over her to make sure she's as thin as she can be.

Obviously I can't speak to her and Eteri's relationship, because as people say- I think they had a good one. But I think as a coach Orser will take her wants and needs into consideration rather than just crafting what he thinks will win gold and giving it to her.

I really wish skating for Armenia was simple because I'd love to have a guarantee that she can make it to 2022 but it's not. She'd have to sit out a season and then compete in 2021 World's to guarantee Armenia a spot at the Olympics. Which means she'd have to get everything figured out this upcoming season (18-19) sit out next season (19-20) and compete for Armenia during 20-21 so she could guarantee a spot. That's a really small window. There's no time to waste and she would get much backlash from the Russians. She would lose all of her sponsorships in Russia and I don't know if she could make up that money in Armenia and I don't know if they would accept her either.

If she wants a guarantee to go to Beijing, this is her surest bet, but she'd have to be prepared to be shafted by Russians, have politicking against her, and lose a lot of money. She's very prideful of her country and I don't think she would think it's worth it. That would be such a courageous move, and it'd be a great movie in the future, haha.

An equally courageous move is competing in Russia and risking not making it to 2022, which is what she'll likely do.

For me there is a problem that i see Orser as someone who has the potential at best. Really, one lady skater who won gold eight years ago is not enough for me calling him "good enough". He maybe has Yuzuru, but what in the field of ladies skaters could his whorshippers present as his unquestionable and stable succes since that? One worlds bronze? Is that what prevents even questioning him being a guarantee of success?

Yes, if Zhenya really decided for him, it's her decision and I wish ner luck. But that does not mean that I somehow would see that as assured progress.

The other thing is I really consider it wrong saying Zhenya was Eteri's guinea pig. And all that speaking about Eteri as there were no results, no work, no credit of her, as if there was no benefit for Zhenya, as if she weren't two times world champion and all the other success. Yes, many people is insanely happy, I wish that to them, but they should not forget what path led to Zhenya's greatness.

What female skaters have had unquestionable and stable success since Yuna? Oh, just one...Medvedeva. Yeah, it makes little sense then for the only consistent champion since Yuna to go train with Yuna's coach. :dumb:

Thats what I have written in the previous comment (and one more from yesterday). Her gold is 8 years old, and I'm heretic, I don't value her as high as any of Eteri's girls, but well, one gold, ok. Since then, what Orser can offer? One world bronze (edit: and I checked, one more european bronze). What score of any of his ladies could be shown as proof he deserves his credit here? And to be honest, from recent, only few ladies stayed with him longer than one or two seasons.

That doesn't mean I don't wish it to Zhenya, but it seems like for some people it is as if it was already decided about success.

Her gold was 8 years ago, but a strong case has been made that her silver from 4 years ago should have been gold, and anyway, that's one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in the last 8 years. Who is better for Zhenya than him?

You're entitled to an opinion, but please realise that making a champion isn't just a matter of training someone. Does Med have what it takes to be one? Orser could help her, then, because of his resounding success with technique and packaging in general. This hasn't magically changed just because Yuna won 8 years ago, and no one else has since then. There are a lot of other factors there.

I don't see the net gain for the switch at all, but if everything were timely with the switch, she could go to the Olympics again, assuming there're no spots for her on the Russian team in 2022. Maybe that matters more to her.

Think about her life after the olympics though. There will be backlash from some Russians for abandoning Russian nationality. That is a huge stress for the rest of her life
