Evgenia Medvedeva

Yes, Stephen was born in Russia and skated in Ekaterinburg, Russia. His family noticed his talent and brought him to the attention of Lee and Brian at the Cricket Club very early and they took him on when he was 7. So he's been living here with his family at least since then and he represents Canada. In an interview with PJ Kwong Stephen sounded like your average Ontarian but then ended it with a "Spasibo", so he's retained at least that much Russian :) I'm sure he remembers far more than that, not least because his parents likely speak it at home. However, Stephen's pretty shy from all accounts so he may be shyer about speaking in Russian. But maybe Evgenia may coax some more out of him, unless she is more intent on upping her conversational English. He's certainly lucky to have another kind and experienced skater arriving at the CC. I am sure all the veterans will support him as he navigates his first year internationally as a junior, while he supports her in her first year living and training in an unfamiliar country.

Not sure of his specific case, but most of the kids that leave russia at such young age tend not to speak Russian (while they do understand some and may speak a couple of words, even if parents speak russian at home and specifically to the kids) compared to folks who left Russia at 10+ age. Just so you folks don't get the hopes too high.

Posting from another thread - these are the CS competitions happening before the GP series (I excluded Asian Open bc it's in August, way too early). BOrser hinted at either AC or Finlandia!

I hadn't checked the date, and thought it would be earlier :( At least it will give her time to heal completely

If this is true :drama:

Don’t pay attention to any of that, seriously. They’re PRESSED cause she is leaving and they keep trashing her. “She cries” for her? I don’t know what heartbroken person would speak so ill of her 18 year old student on national tv!!!

Please try to keep that stuff from here. I am sure many other fans feel the same way on here. Ignore them, they just want drama.

Guys, I read how some haters were bothering Diana Davis on her Instagram. Zhenya never expressed any hate or anything like that. That is not her and that shouldn’t be expressed by her fans either or else you aren’t truly her fan or a skating fan in general. She is probably still friends with them all even. How about we all go to Diana’s account and post a nice comment to show our support for her to say we stand against such silly social media haters and also for thanks for all her mom did for zhenya during that stage of her career and all the friendships she made there. It is time to stop this silliness as we get ready for a healthy competitive season to come. Go post something nice and in thanks to her and her mom.

Drama in russian social media

Evgenia should stay above the fray and stay classy. CHILDISH behaviour but again they are CHILDREN! Bring on the Ladies!

Such amateurish behaviour... Evgenia is doing absolutely perfectly by staying above the fray, staying classy and planning for her super exciting move! I'm from Toronto originally and thrilled to have her there at TCC :) As the guy from TSL says in their video the only people that look RIDICULOUS is Eteri (and I guess now some of the rest of her group)

We need to get away from social media hate on people’s accounts. Let us just appreciate all these skaters and coaches for the time and energy they put into this sport we all appreciate. They have made it amazing! The new season is going to be exciting now! The competitive energy will rock! But please don’t harass or be mean to any of these people on social media. If you don’t like them, don’t follow them or look at their posts. But try to be civil and appreciative.

I know and I am also happy that many ex skaters are supporting her decision too. Do you live in Toronto? Lol I wish I did so I could give her some support once she arrives haha. I am ignoring all that and also they are children and I am not. I won’t say anything bad about them. I just hope Zhenya’s fans stop paying attention to all that messy stuff. It’snot good for anyone.

It may be true, for all we know. It wouldn't be surprising that she'd be affected by the departure of someone she worked with for 11 years (without mentioning that Zhenya was a child at that time so Eteri saw he grew up).
But it wouldn't be anyone's fault, Zhenya did what she needed to do and after such a long time it is a logical decision.

So it may be true, and that would be sad, but.. it's life :slink:
