Evgenia Medvedeva

it's a little sad how no one tried to convince her to stay in Russia :/ as if ppl didn't care that much?

she couldn't be happy with her old coach and how can she see alina on the rink everyday and not remember how gold slip from her hands at olympics
I know that she has a mental strength like no other but she is a human being after all
I don't say she hates alina or something like that but I don't think she needs to see her everyday and train with her for many years
if it was me I just don't want to train there either - it is too hard to do that and be happy / sane

I don't know any coach better than eteri in russia so what choice did she have?
maybe ppl who loves her thought same way and not try to stop her

I love, love, love that interview! That‘s Zhenya how we know her, yet she always manages to surprise me. Thoughtful, highly intelligent, mature, focused, driven, determined, wise. I just can‘t express in words how amazed I am by her. And it really is no wonder that the Canadian skaters have already „adopted“ her as one of them. And I loved Javi‘s comment with the sushi

There was no shortage of online criticism about her leaving Russia. But I'm sure she was speaking just about the people in her life who matter, and the Russian Fed, etc. If they knew she had made her mind up and that she needed a change from Eteri, why would they try to talk her out of it or keep her from her goals? Any other Russian coach would have been a big step backwards.

I believe people tried to convince her to stay with Eteri. The Sambo70 manager said that for example.

Her answer is unclear for me with the ...

It was unclear to me as well because the first time I read it (in Russian) i thought that she was saying "actually..." (kind of like a cliffhanger) but then I had another look and it could also mean "not at all..." , because "Вообще…" technically has multiple meanings depending on context.

"Honestly? No. Actually..." makes more sense. Can a Russian user help us?

Exactly! It made no sense to convince her not to go to Canada it she didn’t wanna stay with Eteri, as it was her only other option that worked

I think it depends on the arrangement of punctuation marks. Vaitsekhovskaya could write " нет вообще"- "no at all" or "вообще нет" - "none at all", but these three points provide food for thought. So Vaitsekhovskaya decided to create an intrigue or something?
I remember the interview with Orser, where he said that he had spoken with TAT over the phone and said that TAT internally supports Zhenya's decision. So, I do not think that besides Sambo 70 leadership someone persuaded Zhenya to stay.

Sivush, thank you for the translation. This is a great interview, we keep learning so much about her character. She really has changed her mindset for the better. As I understand her main goals are the Olympics in 2022 but I have the feeling that she gave up the motto "it's all or nothing" and has understood that even when some of your dreams don't turn out to be the way you wanted, life still goes on and you have to keep living it. I am happy that she could use the transition time now, doing some shows, to get close with her figure skating friends.

I find it a little concerning that she mentions the problem with eating/gaining weight based on the fact that she actually has a naturally slim body. I guess she had really struggled coming to the Olympics with an unhealed injury, fighting with a low calorie daily intake and at the same time going trough an excessive physical training. My guess is she came to the conclusion that those methods used to help her in the past but they don't work anymore for her body. It's good that she's recovered now - from her latest shows we saw that she looked much more healthier.

I can only add that this interview was very intresting and came at the best time in order to close the old chapter. Now is the beginning of a new one. I wish her the best of luck :2thumbs:

I read it as "Honestly? No. Not at all... ". I doubt that she would have started a sentence with "actually" if she didn't want to continue it anyway. Or she would have answered with a vague "Yes, some people tried to (talk me out of it)", not mentioning any concrete names. There is no real sense in saying "No", and then as if contradicting it. Many people contradict themselves all the time even in bounds of one sentence, but it doesn't seem like Evgenia. Unless what followed was the part that was too personal and could not be published (as Vaitsekhovskaya writes in the beginning). But I also think she would have cut the word "actually" off too in that case. Perhaps I am wrong, of course.

The comment Vayts to an interview (and other comment that in an interview there was a "live image of Zhenya"):

"Earlier diligently pushed into her that she has to tell and as she has to speak. And the girl of own thoughts has a heap as it becomes clear. I actually having only talked to her, I have understood very clearly why she has left. She not because of defeat has left. It is, certainly, only my point of view, but it seems to me quite so."

Google translate is better ;).

"And the fact that before it was carefully crammed into her, what she should say and how she should speak. And the girl has her own thoughts a lot, as it turns out. I actually just talked with her, very clearly understood why she left. She did not leave because of the defeat. This, of course, is only my point of view, but it seems to me that way"

And that's pretty impressive to give such a long and interesting interview without saying anything that could cause troubles

Just take a look in the Russian ladies thread and you‘ll find that apparently, there can still be found things that which could cause trouble.
