Evgenia Medvedeva

Zhenya‘s and Jason‘s frienship is probably the most sincere and genuine I‘ve seen in a long time. I love how they support each other. And the fact that they‘re not competing with one another is a huge bonus, too. They can cheer for each other and be entirely happy when the other one succeeds because there‘s no need to worry about being overtaken. I‘m so happy she dared to make this move to Canada and found so many friends who are supporting her along the way. She deserves to be happy and at the moment she seems to really be. Now she only needs two great new programs to rock the competition she‘s entering this season, alongside Gabby and Jason❤️

I agree, I find it really heartwarming!

Is she sharing an apartment with Jason?

Her English is fantastic now, she's improved so much and I have so much respect for her.. where did she actually find the time to practise?! It's incredible!

No. Her and her mom live in the apartment. Jason lives with a family near TCC.

She has said that she picks up a few words each day and kind of built it up over time. It also helps that she doesn't fear practicing it with other skaters, even media.

At Team Challenge Cup in 2016 she actually talked some English in the mixed zone (the area where skaters talk to media after performances) even though there was an interpreter there.

I found a clip someone got, but it’s generally gone unless some captured it.

But I bet it will end up on YouTube at some point.

I'd like to echo everyone else here and mention that her English has improved tremendously in a very short time. It's already better than when she did the Olympic channel interview, and that itself was a huge improvement over how she sounded at the Olympics. She is picking up the language almost as quickly as a child. Good job, Zhenya!

I actually think Fahrenheit is better for weather temperature and Celsius for everything else. There is a perceptible difference between 72 and 70 degrees that I think is hard to capture in Celsius.

There is a lot more precision in Fahrenheit. It's too bad that freezing doesn't occur at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, as that would make more sense, but for temperatures, Fahrenheit is what, 1.8 times more precise? ;)
I wish we would use the metric system for everything else, though. Feet and inches and pounds and yards and quarts and gallons and such are cumbersome.

She's been immersed in it. She practices all the time, just by living in Toronto and training at an English-speaking facility.

In celsius those are 21 and 22. So, a one degree difference.

If you can tell the difference between 70 and 71, then you have to go into half degrees, which isn't so convenient.

I find celsius better for everything up to about 25 degrees celsius / 77 farenheit. Above that, it's hot, but I'm not sure how hot. Except above 30 is too darned hot.

Kvas is good, why no like it????

I’m sorry to jump in this thread, but it is too funny after I was complaining in the Jason thread.

Kvass must be an acquired taste. My (American) friend who lived in Russia and speaks Russian would take me to her favorite Russian deli here in the States. Drink Vica’s homemade kvass, she says. It’s good, she says.

:disapp::disapp::disapp:

I am sorry, my tastebuds were not accustomed to it. And even before seeing this clip, I said, if Jason doesn’t like it, it’s probably kvass:laugh:

Not everything translates well.;)

Maybe it depends on the type of Kvas.

Found it! Here's that clip of Zhenya from Team Challenge Cup, April 2016, where she interjects after the interpretator and speaks some English. It's cute. :)

She's really progressed since then!

Thanks for the video! As everyone else has said her English is improving so much! I’ve noticed as well that it’s not just her pronunciation of words but also how fast she’s now stringing sentences together. She’s spending less time thinking about how to say the words as it’s all coming more naturally to her now. [emoji122]

Also Zhenya and Jason are becoming such an awesome duo! It’s really cool that their at the same GP’s this season and can cheer each other on!
