It’s easier to live near a costume designer or visit them often for readjustments, more stoning, etc. Ideally you’ll only have one dress per season but stuff happens. It also takes at least three fittings for a custom dress, and then usually one on ice. I would also not trust FedEx with a USD $2000 dress (I don’t know how much Olga charges considering the Fed probably pays her directly).

Even though I don’t love her SP dress, I am a penny pincher and thinks it should be salvaged somehow. But her short is already something out of her comfort zone and she needs to feel 1000% comfortable in her next dress

TBH my only issue with Evgenia's move to Canada is the end of collaboration with Olga. Truly majority of my favourite dresses is from her and I find her designs refreshing. I know that Lisa is popular but her dressing are easily recognisable and sometimes her designs are repetitive. Mariah Bell's dress look like taken from Ashley's wardrobe.

Now when we know that she will have new dress at GP I can't wait to see it :drama:

i agree with you here...but you also have to consider that sometimes skaters fall in love with another's dress and request that their's look similar. not saying that was the case with mariah, but it's a possibility (think of Sasha Cohen's dark eyes SP dress...everyone wanted a dress like that after they saw it!)

Recently I came back to listening to Ravel and his Piano Concerto in G major is so quirky and uplifting! I think it would suit her very well too!
 
A little off topic - and I am happy to take this post down if the rest feels this is not postive enough for this board, but I stumbled upon an old (2/2018) Brian Orser interview where he talked a little bit about his (and Tracy’s) teaching philosophy. As a Medvedeva fan, I found this part particularly interesting:

“We always say, when we take on a new skater, it takes a year and a half for it to come to finish. And we’re usually dead on. But there’s a lot of kids who don’t last a year and a half. Because they’re not seeing the change. And the parents are not seeing the change, and the Federation’s not seeing the change. So then they take them and they go somewhere else, where they get a quick fix.”

I feel like a year and a half is reasonable. I don't think we will see Zhenya or her mother bail. We will see change little by little too so that should help. Also I hope Mr. Orser or someone communicated this to the Russian Federation at some point. We just need her to do well this season. I would be happy if the she made it the GP Final and made the top 3 in Russian Nationals and made it to Worlds. There I would love to her to make top 3. That's my wish list and I think would make the Federation happy too.

Also, Brian has a very good reputation and it is a unique opportunity for a Russian skater. I could see the Russian Federation wanting to ride this out for a year and half. After that remains the question...

I find this very positive, and a healthy perspective.

Those of us who really have faith in Zhenya's talent, and support her in taking a daring approach to continuing her successful career, need to be reminded that deeper change takes time.

We were given notice at the start that there would be rough spots along the way, let's not let those who wish to lock Zhenya into the past bring our spirits down.

That reminds me a lot of what Raf said in his recent TSL interview about it taking about 2 years for a skater to fully acclimate to new coaches and new techniques. It's always a long game in any technique-driven sport. The rapid changes fans want to see over months or even weeks just aren't realistic. So even though Evgenia is clearly not 100% right now, I'm not at all concerned.
 
I think we can easily see from Evgenia’s reaction to her ACI performances that she has a very realistic expectation re how she will be placing in competitions while she and her team are working on necessary changes to give her a long, successful career.

I am very optimistic, and I will see her through this process as a fan.
 
But would it take zhenya 1.5 years to acclimatize? I mean she already came to him as a very titled figure skater who already has a lot of things that are good. Ofc there are things to change as well, but I don’t think the process would take as long as someone who wasn’t one of the best to begin with and probs doesn’t have as strong work ethic. Even already after 2 months or so we can see progress.

But Yeah I would think the goal this season is to stay competitive enough to medal and keep your name in the game.

It would be amazing if it came sooner... but the point I think is that Evgenia’s not in a free fall; she and her team have a plan. I am happy she is not settling for any quick fix - this shows determination and just how brave she is (at 18 years she old!).

well, but she was having some health issues. I mean, she cannot do layback spins at the moment, we are not sure about her leg... hopefully Orser will help her to stay competitive for the season (even if not winning everything) while letting her get well do be able to do everything.
 
I don’t think anyone outside of Zhenya’s closest circle knew the extent of her injuries. I’m so glad that she’s at TCC because it seems like they’re working on more than her skating skills and jumps with the strength training. I’m also thrilled that Zhenya is working with a nutritionist, since healthy eating wasn’t part of Eteri’s training regimen.

A change is a change no matter how many titles you've won. She's worked with one coach for most of her life so everything is going to be different. If anything, that level of consistency in her training since childhood probably makes a huge shift to a new coach using a new methodology in a new country perhaps even more challenging. And she's coming off of multiple injuries serious enough to halt her training for months at a time (the foot and her back which is still enough of an issue to limit her spins). That's a lot for anyone to deal with, even a two time world champ.

Fixing already established technique of accomplished athlete is harder than teaching new one. After many years of training you develop muscle memory so if you want to do jumps, spins or steps in different way you have to fight your old habits - basically you fight with your body as it’s really used to old ways. It’s like building a house: it’s easier and faster to build bew one than destroying old house to build new. Things like improving skating skills take years actually.

Skate Canada is in 3 weeks so we will have some comparison but I wouldn’t really expect any clearly visible improvements in less than 6 months. I just don’t want her to lose levels in some stupid way. Time for spin camp Team TCC!
 
On the current topic I can only say that I have trust and faith in Zhenya as she has never given me any reason not to. She is an intelligent, wise, determined and strong young woman. I‘m sure she‘ll work hard to correct all her mistakes and improve the programs, especially the free.

As for the FS: I‘d really like a colour combination like this for her dress. A bit darker than her current one. I don‘t know for whom this one is made since Olga didn‘t leave any caption but I think it would suit Zhenya regardless. What do you think?

I was about to post this dress! It looks gorgeous and I agree that Zhenya would just slay wearing it.
Olga truly has remarkable designs.
