Evgenia Medvedeva

I think they did. The spins and step sequence she lost levels on was after the flip freak out. Orser even said something along the lines of “the last spin...“ but I didn‘t hear the rest. It‘s weird, though. Everything‘s weird. I‘m just hoping this is like with Yuzu. He wasn‘t doing well during his first time at TCC either. And then suddenly, he did. But oh well, what to say. The problem started right from the beginning. I know we all love Zhenya and she did her best to sell the program but she seemed fearful right from the beginning. In practice, there was never any sense of hesitation, I didn‘t even consider her missing a jump because she just seemed so confident. Here she was slow upon entering the jumps. Especially that freak flip. But I hope they can work on that. Maybe she should stop reading the comments on social media. I know she‘s a fighter and I know she says they don‘t get to her but well... sometimes unconciously they do. I wish for her that everything will go well in the FS. I‘m not hoping for gold, with the way Liza has skated these past weeks that‘s probably totally out of question. No idea about silver but I‘m praying for a bronze at least!! You can do it, Zhenya! Just focus on one element at a time.

There are two possibilities for today‘s FS actually.

Either Zhenya completely flips out due to pressure (which I don‘t hope.... I don‘t want another heartbreak...) and misses everything. Doesn‘t sound like Zhenya at all.

Or she uses everything she has and sells the heck out of every jump, spin and footwork, not thinking about pressure and just skating.

Second one sounds more like the Zhenya we know. Personally, I‘m hoping! She‘s proven lots of people wrong before. I hope she can do it again.
I think that at least the step sequence would've stayed the same even with the combo. I'm just surprised with all of it.
On another note, I really liked this dress.
Maybe I would've preferred it in some black shades better, but it's just lovely ^^

Last year at NHK after a bad start ( a fall, then a step-out on the lutz) she got herself together... but this time it's even worse... but I believe in her with all my heart. And I agree about the comments, reading them is no good and no use. And the are very very toxic

The step sequence at least was level 3, not two... as if that‘s any consolation. But well, idk, they‘ve been harsher with step levels this season. But spins? Come on....

I actually didn‘t like the dress. The first seemed to fit the mood of the program a lot better. But at the moment what she wears isn‘t my biggest concern to be honest. She looks beautiful in anything so I‘ve got other things to worry about. Oh, how I‘d have loved to just talk about her dress and have nothing else to wonder about because she had a clean skate and was sitting in 2nd or even 1st place. She‘d deserve it so much. :sad21:

Nah I get it. I didn't want to bring negativity here, but I just couldn't resist commenting. At one point I even had this thought of "are they even taking everything seriously?". I'm still impressed with all the improvements, but I'm also disappointed with the seemingly stupid mistakes.

Ok, this wasn't good and lets not sugarcoat it. She even got quite generous PCS preventing a worse result.
But we all know she is adjusting, bad results are part of this process and I think Zhenya has the personality to fight this period through and is going to come back better than ever. She didn't do all this changes in her personal life and professional life to win skate canada or the grand prix.
About level issues: it's mostly a matter of practicing, so I am not worried. They concentrate on the jumps and her skating skills - and not even the extraordinary work ethic of zhenya is superhuman.
What I don't like is that they plan to put 3 lz in when they know they are still dubious (I aknowledge the improvement) - its not a really fair move to other skaters (they count on the star status of zhenya).

To end this on a positive note: Did you notice how well she is now into character, how sharp her move became and how beautiful she looks?

It's going to.be a long season, that's for sure. I just wish people would leave her alone and wouldn't being so thrilled about her mistakes. I know it's impossible, just a wistful thinking.

We should form one of those prayer circles ^_^

We should!! Go, Zhenya, do your best! You’re an awesome person. I know this is hard for you and this season won’t be easy but we’re always supporting you. Fight, fight in the FS! You‘re a brave girl. We‘re praying for everything to go well!! :ghug:

Go, Zhenya!!❤️❤️

Well, at least it‘s a lesson. I hope this fall will only make her stronger once she stands up again and fights. All is not lost. I hope Brian supports her and they work out together what the problem was and go from there. Good luck.

with a 14 point difference against tuk ? doubt it.

Liza doesn‘t make mistakes this season. She’s got a 3A which is a risky element but after what we saw here at the SP, she seems hungry and full of confidence. And 14 points are indeed a lot to make up. But it doesn‘t matter, she deserves her first place (that SP was wonderful). Zhenya shouldn‘t worry now about overtaking Liza but about skating clean and winning a medal. Silver or bronze, it doesn‘t matter if at least it‘s a medal.

This only tells us how arduous this sport is, not only from physical perspective, but also how psychically and morally demanding. You can lose a program just in one second, no matter if you lose due to exaggerated confidence or the opposite, due to nervousness or lack of concentration. I think there is only little of sports where everything depends on any tiny detail, not only during competition, but also during training, preparation, personal rituals and all.

But one program is one program, there are many more to come. There is no skater who would never do such mistake, the best are no exclusion. Zhenya is strong in mind and she knows what to do to avoid it next time. You know that I had my doubts about her transfer, but I also don't see that as the cause of what happened today so I completely disagree with putting this into discussion about that thing (in fact I don't understand why there is still need to discuss it at all and blame her 5 months after it, as that is something that happened already and won't change). Now there lies free program ahead, another competitions, so end this valley of sorrow and look forward to what future brings to her and cross fingers for her.

I didn't manage to stay awake to watch it live but that's exactly what I thought, so I'm guilty of jinxing her too I guess. A little wobbler or two wouldn't have bothered me either but that was painful to watch. I also agree she should stay off social media at least around competitions, no matter how often she tells us that it doesn't bother her, I don't believe that. It's a pity that people are unwilling to give her time to adjust to all the changes.

Thanks to everyone reassuring us that she can make up for it in the FS tho! I'm only worried bc she's not in the final group group and that this may affect her score.

On a positive note: I'm glad she kept performing after the mistake, you couldn't really tell from her face what happened just before.

I just watched the competition on catch up and I have to say that I thought the SP looked beautiful - she looks so much more comfortable with the choreo than she did at ACI and all the little facial expressions and movements are a joy to watch!
Such a shame about the combo, I thought it was telling how both Evgenia and Brian were waiting to watch the playback in the Kiss & Cry because it's not a mistake they've seen her make before. But she recovered so well and continued to sell the program which was great to see.
Admittedly I'm not great at seeing edges, but I thought the lutz looked much better and the 2A was so lovely and smooth.

I'm looking forward to the free tomorrow, if they've improved the choreo and expression the same way they have with the SP (which it looks like they have from the practice video) I think it will be beautiful. Plus she'll have even more to fight for now - and when Zhenya is determined she is an even fiercer competitor.

Good luck to her, I'll be cheering on from the UK!

(also loved the dress, can't wait to see the FS one tomorrow!)

Thank you Flanker for being a voice of reason.
