Evgenia Medvedeva

Am I the only one who thought she looked off from the beginning? She was missing musical marks and was really slow going into her jumps.

Hello, I bring you very badly done maths to see what chances Zhenya can have tonight

- Mako scored 66.30 in the SP. Her SB in the free is 126. Let's say she outscores her season best and gets 130\132 points, that would place her somewhere between 192 and 198 points -> to beat her, Zhenya would need a mark anywhere between 133 and 139 points to beat her. We know she scored 133 with a fall, a stepout and a lvl1 spin at ACI, so this is possible.

- Wakaba scored 66.51 in the SP. Her SB in the free is 109.47. Of course Wakaba has huge scoring potential, so she could easily get a much bigger score than that - I will cap her at 135 since she doesn't yet seem in top shape -> to beat her, Zhenya would have to score anywhere between 118 and 142 points. Again, this is possible with a clean skate and even without a clean skate if Wakaba ends up making mistakes (which, btw, I do NOT wish her at all because I love Wakaba)

-Liza scored 74.22 in the SP. Her SB in the free is 140. If she skates close to her SB or better than her SB, that would earn her anywhere between 130 and 145 points -> to beat her, Zhenya would have to score anywhere between 145 and 159, which means that beating Liza will not be possible unless she makes some mistakes (again, I love Liza so I would never wish this to her)

Basically, she has really good chances at making the podium if she's clean and if Mako and Wakaba make mistakes she can even get away with not being 100% perfect.

Good luck Zhenya! I believe in you, and whatever happens this is just the beginning of a very long jourey

At least Mr Gorshkov, the President of Russian Federation of FS supports her : (it's Google translate, but it's rather accurate) : 'Too many changes and problems in Evgenia's life lately - she moved to work in another country, she has a new coach, changes in technic. She went through a difficult period. Do not make premature conclusions. Let's not forget - this is the first season after the Olympic Games. If we sum up some results, and then intermediate ones, and we would be doing it much later'

In a brief interview in the mixed zone with TSN, Zhenya said she was overconfident and lost focus for a moment.

Her thought was that overconfidence from all the great practices combined with so many new things, and momentary loss of focus, suddenly the jump was lost.

She says also that she will fight tomorrow.

And here are some backstage views posted by TSN Skate on Twitter

Good analysis. Essentially, Zhenya needs at least an ACI level performance to have a shot at a medal. The better she does the better the chance. I know she can do it!!

I've never think about Mako and Wakaba. If Zhenya have do her best in LP, the results of the other skaters just doesn't matter.

Yay, YOLO is back! Team Yolo form up! Zhenya will rebound today. She just needs to relax, focus, and zone out everything else. No worries. She will do well.

Hello! I am worried but my hopes for her to make the podium aren't dead yet. I wish her the skate of a lifetime

I've been lurking and reading the FF but I've tried to keep away from other, non FF sections of the forum beacuse to put it frankly as a Zhenya fan it's just masochism and I am not a fan of that.

Evgenia did a mistake, it was all on her and it's not Orser's or anyone else's mistake. This is sport, a very slippery one, and a lot can go out of control in a second, as it just happened. I find all the comparisons between the coaching teams for irrelevant. I still believe that there should have been a bigger reason for Evgenia to leave while she knew that her success is at stake. And honestly, this is her very own decision and we shouldn't be playing God and judge her.

One thing that amazed me was her will power at the К&C. She knew what was coming and still composed her so well. I saw some tears in her eyes but at this moment she showed a lot of strength and this is something very admirable. I wish her all the luck in the world for the FP, even if she doesn't podium I just hope she redeems herself.

I am taking a break from GS.. I just get very angry when I read some of the comments on the other threads.

Have fun, guys! :ghug:

This scenario is not what anyone expected, much less she. But, all is not lost. I truly believe she has the ability to bounce back. I am not so worried about her skating in the first group affecting her scores. The scores of the first and second group were not so wide apart.

She needs to skate clean. Please skate clean. She will feel much better about herself after she skates her first clean program of the season. Not overthink it, one element at a time. She can do it. Let’s support her - if there’s any time she needs our loud and proud support it’s now.

I’m newer to skating but Evgenia is far and away been my favorite skater. Her programs the last two years were riveting and drew me to the sport.
She’s off now for reasons I hope she can determine and solve for. The program doesn’t suit her as well as prior ones in my opinion. With her beauty and abilities she can probably do anything but I agree with whoever said this program is much more Mariah Bell-like (for whom it would fit so well).
The new coach looks annoyed and you get the feeling he’s quite worried about how it looks on him.

I wouldn't read into this too much because Zhenya is still new to TCC, her technique is being corrected, and this is post Olympic season. As tough as she is mentally, I think the Olys shook her up. I think this is just a freak accident. The ice is slippery.

Upon her transfer to a new coach and environment, her jump technique has gotten better. Her skating and music choice have become more mature. Have y'all seen her massive salchow? Her 2A+3Lo combo? She has improved. This is like a beginning of a new era for Zhenya. Of course, mistakes will be there but she's on a great path. I think also, mentally, she is in a more loving and friendlier environment at TCC.
