Evgenia Medvedeva

I’m newer to skating but Evgenia is far and away been my favorite skater. Her programs the last two years were riveting and drew me to the sport.
She’s off now for reasons I hope she can determine and solve for. The program doesn’t suit her as well as prior ones in my opinion. With her beauty and abilities she can probably do anything but I agree with whoever said this program is much more Mariah Bell-like (for whom it would fit so well).
The new coach looks annoyed and you get the feeling he’s quite worried about how it looks on him.

Really? I don't think so...trying to remember if I've ever seen Orser annoyed, but I can't
By the way, I like a lot the new dress:luv17:

I think Brian with his many World and Olympic champions doesn’t particularly care what people think of him.

This is an adjustment period for Med. She has been so consistent that it’s like fans aren’t letting her make errors. All skaters make mistakes. It’s normal. It took her this long on her career to have a major mistake like this which is pretty impressive. She is a fighter. No matter what happens. There are always transition periods when you make such a major change. I believe in her.

Agree
he coached two Olympic champions and one bronze medalist. That's three students and their 4 Olympic medals.
Brain himself won two Olympic sliver medals as well.

He is never going to be less than a great coach even if Medvedeava doesn't flourish under his instruction.

Welcome to her fanfest.

This only tells us how arduous this sport is, not only from physical perspective, but also how psychically and morally demanding. You can lose a program just in one second, no matter if you lose due to exaggerated confidence or the opposite, due to nervousness or lack of concentration. I think there is only little of sports where everything depends on any tiny detail, not only during competition, but also during training, preparation, personal rituals and all.

But one program is one program, there are many more to come. There is no skater who would never do such mistake, the best are no exclusion. Zhenya is strong in mind and she knows what to do to avoid it next time. You know that I had my doubts about her transfer, but I also don't see that as the cause of what happened today so I completely disagree with putting this into discussion about that thing (in fact I don't understand why there is still need to discuss it at all and blame her 5 months after it, as that is something that happened already and won't change). Now there lies free program ahead, another competitions, so end this valley of sorrow and look forward to what future brings to her and cross fingers for her.

Thank you flanker... [emoji253]

With so many folks out there seemingly looking to see everything through the lens of who she's working with rather than seeing that any major change brings risks along with rewards, your attitude is very appreciated.

In skating, there are no guarantees.

But Evgenia has earned so many accolades in her career, those achievements can never be taken away.

What I love about her move to Canada and Team Orser is that she is doing this for her.

This is good..

Gorshkov explained the unsuccessful rental of the short program by Evgenia Medvedeva at the Canadian Grand Prix
The President of the Russian Federation of Figure Skating, Alexander Gorshkov, expressed the opinion that Evgenia Medvedev did not perform well in the short program at the first stage of the Canadian Grand Prix season in the season, but the athlete went through many difficulties. “There have been too many changes and problems in Eugene’s life lately - she moved to work in another country, she has a new coach, changes in technology. She went through a difficult period. Do not make premature conclusions, - quotes TASS Gorshkova.

“I think I will remind myself of this mistake as a sample [example] not to lose attention,” she continued, her voice close to breaking. “I will remind myself of this mistake all my life for so big fault – I popped jump and it isn’t my habit at all."
“I feel so bad about it because I was really ready to do my best.”
“It’s now a hard time for all of us, for Brian, for Tracy and I’m so thankful to them because they really gave me a piece of their soul on every practice.”
I really hope to show my love to them with a clean skate today.

Argh, I'm so nervous for her but I really think that she'll be able to pull of something amazing. Without that mistake, she would be nowhere near seventh or even the first group, so I don't think it's fair for anyone to go around blaming TCC or Orser yet. I'm kind of annoyed that spins and step sequences are actually a problem, since for Zhenya, those were pretty much guarantees before - but I guess the panel is now a lot stricter. I'm hoping for some kind of Aljona Savchenko moment (even though it's not the Olympics haha) but I just hope she gets a skate she can be really happy with today!

The scoring on step sequences and spins has changed with the revisions.

Both demand more difficulty to get the higher levels and are less forgiving of certain technical deficiencies.

Zhenya's spins have never been her strongest point, and she spoke about a desire to raise their quality even a couple of years ago.

So, it's not surprising that they would be her vulnerable point.

On the steps, I think they are improving, but they will take focus as she is working to improve her skating skills.

And if inattention was the issue yesterday, it is not surprising that they suffered too.

According to Team_Orser during her FS warmup she did a 3Lz-3T

Reports from Twitter (people who are there live) are saying she looks sharp right now. I don’t want to jinx anything but she looks more like she did on Friday. Her practices Friday were very good, and yesterday before the competition it was a bit shaky.

Runthrough was 3Lz3T, 2A, 3Lz, 2A, 3F3T, 3S3T, 3Lo :) all clean

I'm getting excited with all of this new info ^^
Go, go Zhenya!
