Yes, judges can review each element.

Edge calls are issues by the technical panel, however, not the judges. A judge can award low or negative GOE if they see that the edge is unclear or incorrect, but the lowering of a jump’s base value (e) or a GOE instruction without BV adjustment (!) is a decision made by the technical panel.
 
I'm reading some potential jump layouts here and I'm asking myself why she never did a 2A/3x - eu - 3S combo. Honestly, she can jump 3S from nothing, I doubt she could not do it in combination.

Does it not raise her BV when she can't repeat 3Lz?

I think judges would also reward her for something new after years with the same jump layout.

Judges and technical panels do not have the TV cameras from different angles to clearly see her edge.

I don't think the officials are at fault, look where she jumps her lutzes and compare the calls:

The '!' - ones are all in the corner (like with Eteri) , where they and their camera cannot see the edge clearly: they call it unclear.

If you check her 3rd Lze in canada they could actually see more, so it was correctly called wrong.

Okay so it sounds like its more a choreographic choice? Hopefully they bumped it up.

It could be an execution choice. Most choreographers aim for level 4. For example Yuzu got level 3 in the SP in helsinki because he didn't do one of his turns cleanly.

Are you talking about the cowl scarf he posted on Instagram? It’s very cute but the stitches look like it’s knitted and not crocheted (looks like stockinette in the round with worsted, maybe aran yarn). As far as we know Evgenia only crochets, though maybe she knows both. In the video for that Japanese channel she was crocheting clothes for her skinny pigs.

Definitely an execution issue. Like Mrs. P said, even Yuzu got a Level 3 on his last SP step sequence. I looked it up (thank you meticulous Yuzu fans!) and he made a mistake on a rocker-counter-loop, the rocker exit edge was apparently flat and the counter wasn’t entirely on the ice. It’s very nitpicky

I am not good at spotting issues in step sequences, sometimes they are obvious but most of the time they are not. But Evgenia’s step sequence came immediately after her fall so I assume if she skates clean she’s in a better position to focus on her step sequence in the moment

I think Tracy mentioned (during the broadcast) after she made that mistake on the combo, that Evgenia did not make (a couple of) turns; she mentioned she can’t make any mistakes after the no-combo because she needed all the points. This is just what I remember from a single brave moment of watching the TSN broadcast on YouTube; I try to avoid watching replays of that SP.

I love Javi so much. I remember Brian saying that he could tell when Javi hadn’t eaten breakfast (probably from oversleeping) and so he would keep a stash of protein bars at his desk for those few days. TCC is an competitive environment, but it’s also nurturing. Coaches can’t win competitions for you but they set you up for success and the training environment matters

I think Brian also said that Evgenia has asked him and Tracy to be more critical. But there’s a way to be critical and honest without crossing the line into verbal abuse.

People who underestimate Janny will eat their words tbh. I did in the past before I was a fan lol
