Evgenia Medvedeva

I know this will never happen because it would probably hurt her to much, but if she brought back Anna Karenina I would die. But the tango is okay, I just am not convinced of the short anymore. It’s gotten worse and worse since Russian test skates

If I were them, I would take that Experience program she did over the summer at an exhibition and turn that into a short program.

It would be pretty awkward to use AK and Nocturne again.

I agree. The advantage of Zhenya's "serious" programs were that if she was nervous, it didn't affect presentation negatively. This program requires flirting, casting looks at th judges, interaction with public... All this is hard when you are too nervous. Something serious is better when you need to be "in your bubble", as she said several times about herself. But it is probably unrealistic to change it now, so Zhenya has to fight with it.

I feel as if her mistake at SCI is haunting her, always at the back of her mind. At SCI she performed better but of course missed the combo. Here there was no performance but she stayed on her feet. It's hard to do both.

I know changing programs is unrealistic, but if she fails to make the GPF I beg her team to change it. One month between now and Rusnats, which will be the competition of the year.

I dunno if calm and supportive is the type of coaching Med needs. Orser mentioned that his coaching style was too "light-hearted" for Med after SC.

I kind of agree. After her free, when she got off the ice, Brian was speechless. I think he got intimidated by her how fierce she was and by her strong will to get the job done. She's a perfectionist and knows her flaws. I can imagine it is difficult to deal with such thoughts when your coaches are fine with mistakes. Thats why Brian also said that the most difficult thing would be the patience. I am wondering how long she will keep up with this attitude. I have the feeling that getting to the GPF is her personal main goal right now (before RussNats) and not her coaches'.

I’m mentally preparing myself for the possibility she won’t be in the final.

I know there’s a change in the free, but Rika is a technical beast and Mai is so consistent. Evgenia is going to need a seasons best for silver and she has to be clean. There’s literally no room for error

But Zhenya is already so hard on herself and intense. I can’t see how a coach being tough on her would help.

She got an edge call in the 3Lz
Again...

That's to be expected though. It's not like her lutz edge is correct, no matter how much she or we wish.

In fact, the unclear edge (!) call that she gets is lucky. We and the technical panel all know that at very best her edge is flat, more likely inside, but since she jumps the 3lz over in the corner of the rink the camera angle is dubious and they cannot be sure of calling it as 'e'.

Oddly enough I am more mad about the spins than anything. She literally needs to start counting while she's spinning. I just.. she's giving away too many points.

Mai got 133 at NHK with only one underrotation. That is beatable.

I do think that her next SP needs to be more hers. Something she feels and can get lost in. A story of sorts. She seems more comfortable with her FS in that way. Just something to work with on with her coaches. I said it before but will say it again: the theme of this season for her is “rising.” It is brutal and full
of suffering and growth but in the end she will be a stronger skater. A skater who will have a greater story to tell and will last. She has grown since her last performance. She will grow again. Be patient.
