Evgenia Medvedeva

Honestly it’s kinda funny that we are so angry over the spins and not the jumps.

I mean, it’s because we know the jumps are there. She’s just nervous. But the spins are a simple issue that keeps on happening.

Can we just appreciate that she got the highest GOE of all for the 2A... which was something nearly impossible 6 months ago? Changes come slow and hard, but sometimes a small step is big

You know what, that 2A was so solid, despite the rocky performance. It is giving me so much hope for tomorrow.

The "Thoughts on EM 2018-2019 Season" thread is closed otherwise I would have posted this there.

What do you think the chances are that they will change the short program? I know Zhenya is not a quitter and there may be bruised egos but I feel it should be given serious consideration. Do you think it would help at all? There are pros and cons. It would be an adjustment unless they take "Experience" that is a little familiar (best option as it also is an emotional journey and what she is going through right now) Could it be worth it?

It was so effortless that I was thinking if she was the real Zhenya or a double XD She did that in 5 months! If she's not 100% herself now, who cares? She's improving, she's maturing. Just let her be for a couple years, just like what happened with Tuktik. She's strong enough to come back.

Mindset for tomorrow is the same. Regardless of today she still needed to be clean tomorrow. Nothing has changed in that regard. I do worry about how she's doing mentally. I know she wants to kill it every single time she goes out there and the disappointment must hit her really hard.

The good news is that the top 3 are less than .5 away from eachother. With a good skate tomorrow she can still get first or second. The bad news is that she clearly has no confidence in this program and is losing points where she really shouldn't be.

I think she should do a lot of competitions and shows next summer with her new programs. She needs to be able to get comfortable with her programs and get into the right competitive mindset before the GP season starts.

I want her to skate to Experience. I think it is the best option in every way. It is a dramatic skate, which I better for her. She could use the leftovers dress. And the choreography only needs to be tweaked. And it can show her and Wilson as choreographers.

I'm really afraid of zhenya tommorow because she already looked angry enough today, but instead of killing the jumps she was slow and out of focus. All the previous mistakes and the pressure overwhelmed her.
But Evgenia Medvedeva is not known for giving up

Exactly my thoughts, she usually thrives under pressure but that didn't happen today. It's not over until it's over but I think I've come to terms with the possibility of her not making the final. Hope dies last though and I'm praying she proves all the pessimists wrong.

Really? So nice the judges finally start to reward the improvement!

This season will continue to be rough but I'm sure she'll come out of this better than ever.

I think she should keep her SP because it's clearly out of her comfort zone and the reason she made the move is to gain new experiences and technique. She can't keep skating to melancholic programs forever and she said herself that she wanted to try different styles. Yes, it's hard, but it's something that she needs to do. Just like she needs to fix her Lz and spins.

In terms of the GPF - while I do want Zhenya there, I only want her if she is 100% ready to be there. I'd rather her not go, than go and place 5th or whatever and mentally ruin herself. The competition is strong and Zhenya is still in transition which is clearly visible.

I agree that the SP definitely is not working. I think changing the styles for both the short and free in one season was too much and they should’ve made one on the dramatic/familiar style and maybe if she’s comfortable change both in the next season. She should’ve easily been able to lead by a large margin had everything gone as planned but I guess it’s really anyone’s game now... :/
I just want Zhenya to have a good competition where everything goes exactly as she want this season. I hope the skating gods are on her side tomorrow!

Regarding the spins, I looked at her 2017 Worlds SP and compared the CCoSP to her 2018 SCI SP.

And she does it almost exactly the same in those two performances. I'm not sure I'm ready to go back to today's performance so I'm not sure about her spin here, but...

1. She enters a sit spin.

2. She moves to a different sit spin variation.

3. She changes foot and goes a camel position.

4. As she is about to complete the third revolution she moves back to a sit position, then she grabs her free foot and moves up to an I-spin.

The features of this spin are: one of the sit variations, not sure which is counted as a difficult variation, the change of foot, making a difficult change of position on the same foot (sit spin to I-spin), and the I-spin is a difficult variation.

The problem is her camel variation. I think it is muscle memory that as she is doing the third revolution she changes positions. All she needs is to change the timing by like 0.25 revolution.

Zhenya needs to harness her kuyashii power tomorrow.

On a positive note, I like the little choreographic changes to the short. They took out some of the running steps which I like.

Yes, that's why I'd also be okay with her not going. I'd rather like her to have more time to prepare for Nationals than ending up low in the final.

I guess this is a post for Zhenya as well as for everyone else in general. I saw her frustration at the end. I wanted to remind her of something...

I want to say one thing to make very clear. You will never lose your fans. Do you think your fans cheer for you because you can make a perfect jump? Do you think we will abandon you if you fall? If you slip? If you do not do something in perfect precision? Heck, if that was the case we'd all just be commenting on the tiny Rapunzel Tornado fanfest and her IG (nothing against her of course - just making a point to the junior quad princess's jumps). Do you think what judges or nations say or any troll or anybody says will ever in a million years change the way your fans feel about you?

We are your fans because you are you. Because YOU ARE YOU. You represent something different in the sport. Your personality, your passion, your exuberance, and how you and only you can tell a story in your skating. But, you already have us. You got it? You lassoed us in with past performances. Rise or fall or fall again and again and again, we aren't going anywhere. Ever.

In other words, you have nothing to lose. Honestly, this is a season of growth. You know it. A time to relearn and grow. Just making it to the prix final is an accomplishment. Who cares what happens after that? It's like Rocky going the distance.

Don't get so down on yourself. Don't compare yourself to others (Because those others aren't you and you have something special that no other skater can touch. It's not about perfection. It's about being you). Perform tomorrow with your heart. Feel it. Be there in the story. Not for us but for you. Express your story for the world. Express it. Who cares about the judges? Who cares about the .1 points this or that? It's not about numbers. It's about you and the ice. The ice is your canvas; paint the story for the world.

Got it? We aren't going anywhere. Where else would we go? There is only one you. But we don't want you to skate for us. We want you to skate for you. We just want a window in to see your story. Write it for us. Write it for YOU.

This is the middle of your story (the middle of a story is always the one where the hero goes through terrific struggles. Choose any movie, any anime, any novel. It is always the same. You are rising).

Now go get them, Tsarina. Show the judges, show the world, show everyone, that there is only one artist on that ice tomorrow. Only one Michaelangelo. Tell your story.

omgggg just watched her SP another V spin??? ARGHHHH
Her lutz looked better than before i think and the 3F-2T was understandable. If she had gotten the 3-3 she would be in first but honestly she's not in a bad spot. very close to first and then it'll depend on whether rika lands her 2 3As.

Honestly I don’t really care about this competition or the GPF anymore, it’s russian nationals I’m worried about.

Her recent scores will not get her on the podium there

Don't say that pls :palmf:

I am getting nervous just by thinking about russian nationals

I know we're all upset because this was a great opportunity for her to get a big lead + great score and I think she was too. But if you look at her reaction in the K&C after the scores show up, she almost looks relieved when she sees the placement. She didn't say anything too devastating in the press conference either. So I don't think the situation is as bad for her as it could've been. I think she was expecting lower scores and placement then was shocked and almost relieved at the virtual tie. Let's just hope she's in the right mindset tomorrow, she can do it!

This, thank you.
The program looked good at test skates.
I think the problem -more than the coreography- is how stressed she looked. She still made a mistake without performing. So if the music choice was more dramatic maybe she could have gained a point more in performance but she still would have made a mistake in the combo.
They need to find a way to give Zhenya her confidence back for the sp, I don't know if it's a matter of just geting used to the new pressure competition by competition or maybe they need external help with a psychologist.

About the GPF, I agree with you. This year this competiton is not vital for her. She can have a month to keep practicing if she doesn't make it. I still remember Lipniskaya's lp in 2014 GPF. That didn't help her.

Anyway, we are lucky with the scores. I wish for Zhenya to do her best tomorrow ❤️

Thank you for most eloquently articulating what [many of us] feel. I hope Evgenia reads this.
