Evgenia Medvedeva

I just watched the competition, I was at work so I could not watch live. She seemed nervous, but I still liked her skate. And forget the scores. Whoever is the top 3 in the free will be the podium. Nobody has the lead.
And remember her grandmother is there. Her grandmother was the one who went to all her competitions. She is a rock!

After some thinking, I’m kinda glad she messed up the short program because HOPEFULLY she will be angry like she was at skate Canada and nail every jump and have a perfect free skate

The positive thing here is that Zhenya isn’t in a huge hole points wise like she was at SCI. If Zhenya needs the anger to get herself fired up and into “beast mode”, so be it.

The score wasn’t terrible considering lost levels, popped second triple, and not really top notch performance. She doesn’t seem to not like her program seeing from what she says at press conferences and all but when she performed it today, she looked stressed if not even kind of angry. I wish the practice Zhenya we saw could’ve been here today, the main thing is I just want her to skate clean both programs and have her feel great about both at some point.

Where can I watch the press conference?

Another thing that I've realized is that she looks more athletic too. I think her new nutritionist advice is going well, thankfully, but adapting to that change is also something we should take into account when saying she is not the same as before. Of course she isn't! But if her health is OK, that's good too.

Honestly she looked too nervous today. When Sotskova left the ice and she went in, she already looked nervous. I don't think the SP itself is the problem. She was trying so hard to focus on being perfect that she couldn't sell the program at all, which is a shame cause we've seen her deliver her it so beautifully at the test skates, she was being playful and flirty, the program did its job then. What happened today i don't know. She looked so good in practice, not nervous at all, she did all her jumps beautifully. :( It broke my heart to see her after the SP, i believe they do not show that part on tv, but she kept her head down and looked so disappointed, she didn't even want to look at Brian when she left the ice. I hope she can overcome whatever is bothering her and it would be such a shame to not see her qualify for the GPF. She can have a great free skate like in Skate Canada, i believe in her.

I have to praise her 2A tho. It looks so good, it flows so well, great landing and good height. You wouldn't think it used to be a problematic jump of hers so that is one thing to be happy about. Anyway, i believe she knew this journey she decided to make would be difficult so it's better to stay supportive of her decision and process. It will pay off in the end.

I kind of agree. After her free, when she got off the ice, Brian was speechless. I think he got intimidated by her how fierce she was and by her strong will to get the job done. She's a perfectionist and knows her flaws. I can imagine it is difficult to deal with such thoughts when your coaches are fine with mistakes. Thats why Brian also said that the most difficult thing would be the patience. I am wondering how long she will keep up with this attitude. I have the feeling that getting to the GPF is her personal main goal right now (before RussNats) and not her coaches'.

Highly doubt Brian got intimidated. After all, he's coached skaters with similar personalities (Yuna and Yuzuru).
And Zhenya listed the GPF as one of her goals this season and Brian knows it, he sits down with his skaters before each season to set their goals. And from that point they start preparing for when to peak. Zhenya and him are definitely not at odds about making the final because it's her goal and Brian as her coach will help her get there, but as he said in the interview at COR, you cannot win everything. And it's best to stay calm in the face of adversity than frustrated. This is also a dynamic both parties have to adapt to because Brian let's their students take the wheel and he is their support, while Zhenya comes from a training environment where the coaches are in charge.
But the thing is, Zhenya is undergoing so many changes in her skating that flaws are to be expected while these changes happen. And during this transition, Zhenya is already putting enough pressure on herself, she doesn't need her coaching team to do it as well.
Yes, it was a tough skate, but I know she will pull through.

I think repairing the link, the trust, between body and mind is a much more complex problem than most can imagine, and I certainly wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone else. That’s not the entire answer to why things went the way they did today, but I think it’s an under-appreciated aspect.

And, yeah, Orser isn’t going to be intimidated by anyone. I thought he and Tracy took the right tack with Med — not sugarcoating the truth, but not letting Med fall too far into a tailspin, and reminding her to trust her training and herself. Which is honestly all that can be done in the moment. Tell her she bombed? How will that help her prepare for the free? Lie and tell her she’ll absolutely win? Yeah, that won’t work. Appraise the situation honestly and remind her that she has training to rely on? Well, she can’t train for an extra month with the free tomorrow, but she does have training to fall back on and the ability to deliver the free she wants to, and bringing that to the surface is her best chance at skating a solid free.

In terms of choreography and movements, I think this performance of Orange Colored Sky is much better than before. I found it a bit awkward before but it's okay now. Still don't really like it but I absolutely hated it before so that's an improvement

I read you guys and do not believe my eyes. Change the short program in the middle of the season? This is such a stress on the brain and the body, the skater passes 5-10 repetitions per day, the body memorizes, and then once and for all new, new program and other music to roll, to memorize ... this led to injury last season. Why do we need a bad story to repeat? This program is good, just the Zhenya needs to calm down and roll it with mood. Well, work with your spin on level 4. I believe that Zhenya will show the best free program tomorrow.

The head looking down thingy reminds me of Yuzuru's early days with Orser. Evgenia is strong enough, she wouldnt let this pull her down.

Oh dear... I came here and immediately saw the comments. I don‘t have too many words right now. I‘m sad but Zhenya, we‘ll stay with you through all your lows.

Fight tomorrow. You have it in you. We love you.

Did anyone else hear Brian cheering after she landed her 2A? It was quite loud :)
