Evgenia Medvedeva

OCS was never my favourite, so I welcome the change. With Misha Ge, she has a good friend and I hope that will help her to find her confidence back.

I think Tosca can be great , when is the first practise session?:)

The first one is on Dec. 19th. Zhenya is in the 2nd group which is at 3:35pm (Moscow time,7:35 am EST). Then there are SP/FP pactices on 20th (10:30am-1pm Moscow time, 2:30am-5am EST), and SP on 21st (7-9am local time, 11pm-1am EST).

I might have converted it wrong to EST. Weird enough, I do it well for Chicago since I have family in Russia and I need to adjust the time zones, but one extra hour always makes me confused.

Upd: double checked the time -- everything seems fine!

Chicago is the actual capital of the US in Central and Eastern Europe. When I lived there, all anyone wanted to know was how close I was to Chicago.

Eastern time is just one hour later than Chicago. So 7PM in Chicago is 8PM Eastern. I don’t know if that helps, but maybe? There’s probably a mnemonic about “go east, go late,” but the rhyme isn’t there and I’m blanking on something useful.

Thank god for this change!! By Grenoble she did not seem comfortable with the 'new style' of her SP at all. It was really sad to see and I was really afraid I would see the same at RusNats...

The new program (and Misha Ge's choreo in general) seems a lot like the programs she has been doing for years, right? So even if she focusses on jumps she should automaticly emote the right mood :)

I'd say even an 'unpracticed program in her old style' is better than forcing a new style she does not even try to perform. Maybe someday in the future she will be able to branch out.

Haha, I know that since I live in Midwest :D
That's why It was funny for me that I started doubting whether I did the time conversion correct. It's just the way human barain works - you do something almost every day (for me it was converting Moscow time to Central), and then just one extra hour kicks in and you are just "I need to double check it 40 times if I did it correct before I post it, so that I don't make everyone confused!"

I think she will try new programs. But I'm glad that she did not stick with a program that was not working for her. I'm so happy that she is doing a program that Misha Ge. chorographed. It takes courage to replace a program mid season. I cannot wait to see it.

I agree. I am excited for her.

Not gonna lie, I'm going to miss OCS just a little bit:slink: But hopefully the new short program is more successful, really want Evgenia to medal this week:pray:

Good heavens that's an awfully short time frame to change your short program completely only a few weeks. I hope it works for her.

We never will have to see that ugly blue dress ever again!!!! Yes. I hope the gold one is better

I thought it was interesting how Dave said that Sandra suggested white gloves and a certain look and Zhenya and her mom weren't into it. It is a shame they couldn't reconnect to work on the program more. I think there are some cultural differences too that may have come into play here.

I am glad they had this on the backburner. I hope Zhenya and her coaches all learn from this experience.

Misha was in Canada a few months ago - so he they may have done this program then. She has only been training it though since IdF. Fingers crossed.

Honestly from a mental perspective this might be just the thing she needs. I think you could see how Evgenia enjoyed "Orange Colored Sky" at test skates and her first B event but the pressure got to her. Now the program carries a lot of negativity and a new program is like a reset. I think if we know anything it's that Zhenya works hard and she can do this.

Happy for her and looking forward to see her new program.

Personally I liked Orange Colored Sky: the tune and the program.

But Zhenya didn't, and didn't come to like it (unlike Jason, who was not at all happy with his LP when first proposed, but worked on it, improved it and now seems at home with it).

But I :luv17: Misha so if it's really his .... which considering that his IG is filled with his "works" and he hasn't breathed a word, I'm impressed:)

Not having David and Sandra around is not the reason her short program got worse. Choreographers don’t normally stick around throughout the season to make changes, sometimes a skater or coach makes those changes. Shae Lynne Bourne talked about this in interview with TSL, most of the time choreography is a one and done situation and then they see how it evolves throughout the season. Sometimes it looks nothing like what they worked on

I think OCS didn’t change much because it was a new style for her and they wanted to keep it steady. Her short deteriorated because she didn’t know how to approach the program and with all of the changes it was stressing her out. At some point she was clearly enjoying it but no one wants to hear my overanalytical rant of why I think she stopped enjoying it.

Anyway there are pros and cons to switching a program at this point, let’s just hope this is a gamble that pays off

Okay. I’m curious why do you think Zhenya stopped enjoying OCS?

Watched TLS and here are my takeaways:

1. I am so happy that Evgenia has friends like Misha, who can help her out when she obviously needed it... let's give this friendship a round of applause....:clapper:

2. Doug Haw worked with Evgenia on her spins. Please let's have all level 4 spins this next outing.

3. Evgenia did a clean FS run through for Doug Haw. I re-watched a documentary that showed her old coaches "judging" practice run throughs, which made me wonder whether they did the same in TCC.

4. Love the idea of a gold dress :luv17: I am so happy we are finally done with the blue dress. :hap93:

5. In response to one of the comments, Dave said that Evgenia started doing 2A+3Lo to help her 2A. I think that worked.

Absolutely they do the same thing at TCC.

And when you do a clean run through, they ring the bell. Literally.

I am so excited to see her do Tosca! She’s very expressive, and she connected so well with Anna Karenina. Tosca is a similarly tragic (or melodramatic :)) story and the music is beautiful and full of emotion. Perhaps the style is a bit more familiar, and a little easier for her to express right now, than something light and jazzy.

I won't miss OCS at all! It's unfortunate that she couldn't grow with it, but it's understandable. Though it had potential at the test skates, that was never tapped into and it caused her too much stress. Really, I never liked the program and I tried to be optimistic but a new program seems like a better choice now.

Hopefully she can emote this new program well and go clean

I loved OCS, but it's obvious that she couldn't get into it as the season progressed, so the decision is understandable. I think they realised that trying to change everything at once wasn't doable. When she's reworking so much of her technique that she was relying on for years, she can't also seamlessly blend into a music style that's totally new for her and sell the flirty and upbeat character. I hope she tries an upbeat program again in the future, once the new jumping technique gets reliable for her again, because she has that side to her. But yeah, in retrospect it's almost obvious that this season was not the time.

I hope her spins are back in shape. Gotta wonder how bad the back unjury reall was, seeing how long she's not been able to do a lot of them...
