Evgenia Medvedeva

I think the new program is a much more mature version of the style she had with Eteri. It's turned into expressing the music with her whole body, not relying on miming to convey emotions. And it's nice to see her skate a program that she seems to have confidence in.

It's so crazy how her axel used to terrify me before, I'd hold my breath every time. Now I'm just like..."ooooh, beautiful!" I'm loving the SP!

I like this a lot better than OCS, and after seeing this, I think they made the right decision in switching the SP and in changing the layout. I like her chances at Nationals a lot better now than I did last week.

That step sequence and ending! Man, I love it. She grabbed me early on and pulled me in, but then she bailed on the sit spin and released me. I can see that this is going to be a good program, though. If I'm getting caught up in it when she's only skating bits and pieces of it with other distractions moving around on the ice, then I'm probably going to love it when she does the entire thing, in her costume, with all of her focus.

I'm so ready! :yahoo:

The SP looks promising! I love the drama.

I must say that while this program is a familiar energy and/or theme to Zhenya, the choreography and movements aren't really like any of her Eteri programs. It's certainly still a change, just an incremental change. This was the right way to go. Familiar enough for her to be comfortable with it but different enough for her to still challenge herself and broaden her horizons. Great job, Misha!

Completely agree with that.

I’m not a fan of the new sp yet but I think she’s bringing better energy into it. Her skating also seems much faster than it was before

Yeah I also thought she looked faster!

I think it was obvious how much she was enjoying this program. This is the most important thing for me. It doesn‘t hurt that I like it, too, though. :)

It is. But some people said that she needs change her style, "she needs to grow as an athlete" or something like that.

I said from the beginning that I think it‘s great that she wants to grow as an athlete and I still support this statement. However, sometimes too many changes at once mean one feels uncomfortable which was the case here for Zhenya. There‘s no shame in admitting this and making the necessary adjustments to feel comfortable again. This doesn‘t mean Zhenya didn’t grow as a skater or performer or didn’t try any new things. She did. Plenty. She grew quite a lot both as an athlete and as a person as well. She doesn‘t ”need“ to change as an athlete, though. First and mostly, she needs to do what she wants to do herself. If it’s Orange Coloured Sky and jazz - fine. If it‘s Tosca and dramatical opera - fine, too. It’s her life. And I think this season was a great learning process just because some things didn‘t work out - like the Orange Coloured Sky program. :)

Did TAT and Brian know eachother before Zhenya started training with Brian?

Yes. I don’t think people know how long the friendship has been going on, but they were already friends before Evgenia switched coaches. Tat is a well known Yuzu fan as well (and he is a huge admirer of hers). I doubt TAT and Brian are talking all the time but she already loved Evgenia so going to a coach that TAT respects means that TAT will defend them even more.

She even wished him a happy birthday on her Instagram and Brian commented: https://twitter.com/roryandcabbage/status/1075268878299815936?s=21

Play the game tbh

I'm sorry but how would they know that the old SP would end up looking sooo bad? It was clear how much she looked like she was enjoying it during test skates.

The second half of the new SP is so dramatic i love it! I hope this is what she needed to come and kill it on the ice. I'm still nervous but i'm crossing my fingers things go well for her here

Doug Haw said that he helped fix Evgenia’s spins so we have an easy scapegoat. I think TSL was being very flippant with saying he fixed them but it’s possible that a fresh perspective can help things click

I find it a bit hard to believe that since competitions are different than practices. Also, it does kinda look like spins aren't really comfortable for her right now.

Oh how I love the new SP! It is similar to her old styles of programmes yet there is something different, new and fresh to it. You can also clearly recognize Misha's style - I love it, honestly. His choreography really suits Evgenia.
