Evgenia Medvedeva

Doug Haw said that he helped fix Evgenia’s spins so we have an easy scapegoat. I think TSL was being very flippant with saying he fixed them but it’s possible that a fresh perspective can help things click

Well, also TSL said if her spins aren‘t fixed we can collectively yell at Doug Haw. Which I‘ll definitely do, if I see that dreaded V again.

I find it a bit hard to believe that since competitions are different than practices. Also, it does kinda look like spins aren't really comfortable for her right now.

Yeah, I don‘t think she‘s quite comfortable with them or they are “fixed“ yet. But I hope that it will be good enough for her to at least earn most of the level 4s.

Spins take a lot of energy. She may just have been marking them here to conserve energy.

I must say that while this program is a familiar energy and/or theme to Zhenya, the choreography and movements aren't really like any of her Eteri programs. It's certainly still a change, just an incremental change. This was the right way to go. Familiar enough for her to be comfortable with it but different enough for her to still challenge herself and broaden her horizons. Great job, Misha!

A difference I see is that it ends big and is climactic.

Is this the same Doug Hawe that got into trouble on TSL when he made some negative comments about some female skaters bodies?

I love that steps sequence !!!! this program is so dramatic and full of Misha Ge style accents, and it can become better throughout the season.
I read that again the cameras were on her, it really bothers me. Zhenya looked a little nervous but also very comfortable with this new program.
I did not think they would change the layout and put the 3Loop, I assume that if Zhenya is clean it can be around 40-41 in TES, something similar to Sakamoto (same layout).

She did not want to finish her spins in this practice, but I noticed that this time she accelerated more and did not lose the center. She also had more speed on the ice.

I think reasonable to think the PCS will be higher too (than past comp), right? I am not just talking about the + that would have been there anyway because this is RusNats.

I really like this new SP. It really highlights Evgenia's strengths. Most importantly, she seems to really connect with it. Misha was a great choice. I think her problems with the FS are the result of not having a great short- if she can skate a good short and go into the free with more confidence, I think we'll see her LP reach another level.

I am excited!

I always perceived Evgenia and Misha as being on the same page. I'm happy that she is working now with him. I really like the new short program especially the last part of it.

It is. But some people said that she needs change her style, "she needs to grow as an athlete" or something like that.

Not some people, but I believe Zhenya herself. I do not believe that Zhenya did packed up her whole life and changed coaches because she was comfortable with the status quo.

I really liked Orange Colored Sky, but judging from this one clip, Zhenya is clearly more comfortable with this. ETA: at this point in the season. I’m so glad Brian and Tracy invited Misha in to work with Zhenya. And I loooove :luv17: Misha, but he has never had the most complex programs for himself, just dramatic ones. And that appears to be suiting Zhenya while she gets accustomed to all the changes she has made.

:hap10: in the competetion!

I like the new program! I noticed that her flow over the ice is better, and I like that she’s expressing the music with her full body. It’s interesting people are saying it’s like back to her old style bc a lot of her movement reminds me of movements Jason is doing in his free skate - for example, the back spiral exit on one of her jumps. To me the st sq works well for her but it’s also something I could see Misha himself doing. I think it’s a good way to end the program. Looking forward to seeing her do it in competition!
