I noticed that too. You can hear him say it. Honestly, it was a bit strange because I was under the impression that her mom wasn't involved much. It's interesting how they were pretty calm yet Brian was concerned about her mom.

Yagudin would certainly know what it was like to train abroad and not be as beloved as a competitor, and knew what it was like to have to fight for everything... and TAT is just TAT with so much experience/wisdom... and the support of the crowd must have been so wonderful to Med's psyche... now with the nightmare of splatting at Nats having come true, i hope she can get some strength and forget about the stress and skate free.

Yes, she is in her second year.
Ok, that wasn’t greaaat, but this is Zhenya’s fanfest so positive things!
1. She actually performed. We haven’t seen that for a while. Still 2nd highest PCS
2. She was smiling in the Kiss and Cry. I think she was crying later with Tat, but she obviously felt the support for her there
3. WHERE HAS THIS DRESS BEEN LURKING ALL SEASON?! Finally, she looks amazing
4. The loop is so much better
5. ALL SPINS WERE DEEMED LEVEL 4!!!
So progress is there. All the ‘quick fixes’ were done, performed well. We know she can do the jumps, I have faith that it will just take some time. We know she can do it in practise, but when she gets nervous it’s a disastrous mash-up of old and new technique, e.g. her axel which had the blade take off of old Zhenya, the push, speed and height of new Zhenya, which threw her off that much more and created a dramatic fall

I am disappointed Brian would say something like that to Zhenya. It’s like they’re both teenagers who broke curfew. That’s not what Zhenya needs to hear.

Her mum freaking out could be because she's too nervous to watch. You guys said before her mum doesnt watch her competing

As soon as the scores page refreshed it was like my worst nightmare.
I really can't see how a comeback is possible tomorrow. I'd rather be negative than be extremely sad again. Because I saw the protocol and expected the combo mistake but got even sadder when I saw the axel stepout. Gahhh

In comparison to France zhenya looks pretty calm about her skate. I was surprised since nationals are more important than any gp. But I find that pretty mature from her. A year ago she would have cried after such a skate .She is learning that a bad season doesn't mean her career is over.

I don't know if this is the right time but Brian did a long interview with Jackie and it was just released. They talked a lot about Evgenia. There wasn't much new info, just expanded on things we already knew. However, they were having a conversation about the importance of focusing on quality and then he talked about how Zhenya says she wants to learn 3A & 4S, he says they're "working" on that.

*When he says they're working on that, I doubt he means they're actively training it at this moment, but probably trying to get her 2A and 3S big enough to add another rotation. Remember when she did that huge and wild 3S during Skate Canada during practice?

I don’t think Evgenia’s mom is a super overbearing skater mom but there were rumors that she was very Team Eteri when it came out that Yulia was retiring due to anorexia and criticized Yulia’s mom or something. This is strictly gossip, maybe fabricated because Yulia and Evgenia weren’t friends. Also her rushing to defend Eteri is understandable
In any case he said something about her mom but I don’t think it was very clear. Her mom was a figure skater though, right? So I think she would understand

well she WAS smiling in the K&C with that little exchange they had, was more open than in past competitions, so what exactly she needed to hear for you? she doesnt need any more pressure right now. Getting her relax is the way to go.

Yes, her mom was a figure skater and retired at age 14 due to injuries IIRC. She would understand what Zhenya is going through, not as her mother but as a former skater. Also... I think we're taking this too seriously, it probably was just a joke to relieve stress.

If he said this I think it was probably meant as a joke. In fact, when I did not do something well, I liked such comments on my adress better than just consoling. This can be the thing that raises your morale, you can laugh on your mistakes rather than feel pity about them.
