Evgenia Medvedeva

Yay for the show! Double yay for Sima going as well. I hope we see Tosca and lots of photos.

Btw, Zhenya posted a video of her and Kristian skating on instagram (and I know they say they're not a couple, but they look ridiculously cute together). In the description they say that their new music video is going to premier tonight during the New Year's program on Russian tv, so we can look forward to that as well.

Can someone in here mabye record the video when it comes on tv and post it here for the ones who do not live in Russia?

I think Evgenia went to see The Nutcracker! We were just discussing her skating to pas de deux yesterday! I hope she enjoyed it, that theatre looks beautiful!

She got probably the currently best cast in the world for Russian traditional Nutcracker for holidays. Artem is on the cast list for starters.

Interestingly, Israeli gymnast Alex Shatilov had been hanging out and snowboarding with Russian colleagues in Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi for few days last week. And now he went to the same Nutcracker ballet as Zhenya to Bolshoi in Moscow: https://i.imgur.com/5Jj758T.jpg

Russia's Ministry of Sport is gifting those expensive tickets to their sport feds and they spreading them among athletes? Those Bolshoi tickets are pricey and especially holiday ones - they are nearly impossible to get or buy. Me so jelo. :)

Happy Holidays everyone!

Well 2018 has been a wild ride for us Zhenya fans. May Zhenya come back stronger than ever in 2019 and always feel the support of her fans.

Happy New Year everyone!

Happy New Year, Zhenya and all her fans

2019
I hope will be a wonderful year. The year of the 19 for a beautiful nineteen year old skater.

It‘s a bit early but still. If any of you has too much time on their hands.. here is the text I prepared the last days for Zhenya. You don‘t have to read it all the way through unless you want to torture your eyes and nerves.

It took me some time to decide what to write. In many ways, this year 2018 has been the hardest I’ve ever gone through. And ironically, it turned out to be an incredibly tough year for my favorite figure skater as well. Sometimes it still hurts me when I think of what Zhenya had to go through this whole year. From starting the season as the ultimate favorite for the Olympic Gold, to getting injured and struggling and having to sit out competitions while her rivals were out there competing and one - surpassing her. And there was not a single thing she could do, her body didn’t allow her to fight back like she usually would have done. Her FS at NHK trophy was one of the most difficult skates I have ever seen from her, the pain she felt literally translated from the screen and everyone could see, feel it themselves.

And yet she didn‘t give up. She came back right from injury and went out there at the Europeans, knowing that she probably wouldn’t be ready after such a short rehab-time and still did everything she could. In the end she lost. For the first time in two years. Then the European gala.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G5tq8iJytF8

Yeah, pretty emo. But what a performance! Look at her face. She‘s not playing a role. She is being Zhenya, just Zhenya. And she‘s making a promise to herself: I will fight in Pyeongchang. And fight she did.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4mxCtzyHL6k

What more to say about that performance? Well, she left her soul on the ice. I have seen few performances that touched me so deeply. Few performances where you could feel to your very core that the athlete was living and breathing this performance with everything they got and more. I was crying with her at the end. But in the end, when she realised the result, when that 2nd popped up next to he name... I just felt numb. I‘ll be very honest... In that moment, I looked at my mom who was teary too and she put my feelings in words “That‘s not right.“

I’m not a judge, I’m not the one to decide and I’m not going to pretend I am. But I‘ll say that for me this performance is and will always be art and one of the most memorable and defining points of the Olympics. Another one? Well, Polina Tsurskaya, who trained with Zhenya before they both left this off-season stated afterwards in an interview:

"During the Olympics, I cried twice. Because of joy for Alena Savchenko. And the second time when I woke up and saw the results of the ladies’ event. I watched Zhenya‘s performance. It was so emotional that it touched me to the depths of my soul. And when Zhenya splashed herself completely on the ice and cried, I also burst into tears. Alina - well done! But Evgenia gave everything she had! It was the best skate in her life! Such emotions! Such skating!"

Which describes my feelings perfectly.

The off-season was crazy and happened in a blur. So much drama and I’m not willing to comment on any of it further. So, I’m just going to say: Not everything that happened was right. Some things done by people shouldn‘t have shocked me because they weren‘t unprecedented but... I still could only shake my head at how easily trust can be betrayed... and at how many found it to be justified, completely normal behaviour even. Like I said, some things went terribly wrong and I think Zhenya learned a hurtful but important lesson that way.

What was definitely right, though, was Zhenya being an adult and realising she needed a change. For what reasons? We can only make assumptions but we’ll never truly know anyway. But in the end, she showed how brave she is. Packing mom and skates in her suitcase ( ), leaving Jerry and grandmom behind, she went off to Canada to train with Brian. Unprecedented in Russian ladies figure skating. The backslash... we as fans have all suffered with her and still do when we have to visit certain parts of this forum. But I think no one can imagine how Zhenya must have suffered. She loves her country. She is proud of being Russian and she was never afraid to show it. From singing the national anthem with a proud smile, to going to Switzerland and holding a speech which made a case for her and her fellow countrymen to be allowed to go to the Olympics, to hiding her country‘s flag under her official OAR clothes. Zhenya is Russian through and through. Going to Canada, she was deemed a “traitor“ by some.

Now we can easily imagine that some minor but evil and mean voices are always louder than the majority who spreads love and support. But she was hurt and she went into the season with a deep need to prove them and prove herself. That she had been right, that the decision she made was the right one. She tried and tried and fought with everything she’d got but it never seemed to be enough. Practices were perfect, she seemed content and happy and powerful. Until the competition started. Suddenly the confidence was gone. The critics naturally became louder (”Orser destroyed her!“, “Should have stayed with Eteri!“, “done and done forever!“ ) and her confidence went downhill. While we saw her fight back in the SCI FS after the worst SP of her career thus far, in France the fear and frustration was obvious from the point she stepped onto the ice. She wanted it so much... too much and in the end it broke her.

Now, what would Zhenya do? Everyone was wondering, talking, assuming, suspecting. Would she rise up or stay on the ground? Russian Nationals seemed to be the defining point.

And she started it brilliantly even before practice, arriving in Saransk looking like a queen at the draw, laughing with Brian, smiling at cameras. At practice she took the ice to debut a brandnew SP and performed it with grace, emotion yet power and strength. Everything looked good. Everything looked like “Medvedeva is back!“ headlines would be written all over the news after the competition.

And then she popped her combo. Then a fall.

14th place.

NOW they said, she is REALLY done!

But something else happened too. Something that was more powerful than an off-axis 2A and a crash to the ice. Russian fans showed they loved her. The cheers she got were the loudest, people wouldn’t stop applausing until she got her score.

”Wow. They really love you.“

Brian and Zhenya seemed surprised. But in the end, this might have been what she really needed.

In the FS she went out there and showed who she is. Zhenya Medvedeva. The girl with the mind of steel only that now she wasn‘t superhuman anymore and it was obvious. But it wasn’t a bad thing by any means. She didn‘t skate clean. But she had a look in her eyes she didn‘t have all season. In Canada she was angry. In France, she was scared. And here, in this FS, she was just Zhenya. She let herself go, she was free and she had fun. Maybe, finally, she realised that this journey wasn’t defined by the people who talked about her but solely and entirely by her.

We don’t know whether Nationals was a turning point. I? I think it was.

And, to everyone in this fanfest and to Zhenya:

Happy New Year! May this one be easier than the last and may you be happy, healthy and loved.

To celebrate, here‘s a moment of Zhenya and a literal shower of support from her fans.

And some other fanvideos I really loved:

Yuri on Ice. Born to make history. And I don‘t think we have to say how often she did that, how often she defied history and how many of her records still stand? If we do: Being a Russian lady who managed to stay on top for more than two seasons, her amazing winning streak, her back to back World titles, her unbelievable mental strength, her FS and total score that will always be records under the old system...

And something else: Zhenya‘s story in one video.

The Story of the absolute Queen indeed:

Happy new year to everyone! Happy new year to Zhenya and all her fans! May it be an amazing one for everyone! :cheer:

Oh Fluture, I hardly ever need to post something because you always write down my thoughts.

Anyway, happy new year everyone! I wish for Zhenya to become the best version of herself she can be. And you guys too!

Today also marks the birthday of my piggy bank for Beijing 2022. Let's see if I can save enough money for traveling there. (At my current state there's no way I'd actually go even if I could afford it, but a lot can happen within three years and if Zhenya makes it I might too...)
